I don't know, but I'd guess no. I'm not an expert, what I know about those settings is what I read in the in-game manual and IIRC it says to lower the LSD values if you experience understeer.

The manual doesn't specify for front/rear diffs, and the effects will not be the same.

If you lock a diff, then the wheels will spin at the same rate regardless of cornering. The whole point of a diff (not locked) is to allow them to rotate separately to allow for the outside wheel to rotate faster and therefore corner better. Think of it like a tank's tracks :)

Again, a disclaimer: I'm not an expert so this is just my understanding how it works.

If you lock the diff (higher values) both of the wheels spin at the same speed, and when you turn into a corner the inside wheel is turning as fast as the outside wheel which pushes the car straight and generates understeer.

So to use your tank tracks analogy, if both tracks are spinning at the same speed, the tank just goes forward (understeer). To turn, the inside track must spin slower (opening the diff - lowering values - oversteer).

I always keep my diff. settings stock as possible, the only time you'd want to increase the settings is if your going around a corner and the inside tire is burning up. It's definitely not an affective way to combat understeer. To do that you'd want to soften the front of the car via springs or shocks, add front camber, or add rear +toe to increase power oversteer.

Don't worry I'm just interested in discussing.

Your first paragraph is correct, when applied to front wheel drive vehicles. However if you apply that logic to a rear wheel drive vehicle, it will oversteer. The front wheels are steering while the rear wheels wish to plough on.

I think a major thing we're missing here is grip level. Your statement is true if the front has a lot more grip than the rear, the rear will then be the first to go and the car will swing around the front and be oversteery. If the rear has more grip the car won't go where the front is pointing and it will understeer.

The only way a high diff setting will cause oversteer is if the car has enough power to literally drift around a corner. When you go around a corner with a high diff setting the wheels will not want to go different speeds, and the car will not want to turn, until the rear tires lose grip and power oversteers.

Please remember to post

TEAM - DRIVER - CAR

so I can update the list since I don't remember who is on what team :p

Fuji's not that bad, minus the back-to-back S's to the finish line. In SuperGT I couldn't get that section down, but with a wheel you can pretty much "roll" the car through the other corners with little to no issue.

From what Toxa told me, the goal is to stay in Second Gear. I feel going into the S's you want to cut the first turn at the apex to come out the other end wide to prepare to cut the second one. Last corner is a bit tricky, but with practice you can stop going wide I feel.

Just hard on a controller. :/

I need to get comfortable in BMW again. I'll be in the lounge from ~20.00 GMT for an unofficial practice session.

More people need to sign up for the race as well.

Got to talk to the misses about our weekend. 5pm is a better time for me on Saturdays. I might be able to swing this one. I miss driving my 512B

Official practice session tomorrow 20.00 GMT - 23.00 GMT (that's the time I'll be there, you can keep going as long as you want :p)

I'm not 100% sure that I'll be able to make it so I don't want to commit. Also I've been pretty busy this week so I haven't been able to put in any quality practice time and probably won't have a chance to until Friday. I'll try to join as a substitute if I manage to make it on time.

Just in case though, I want to clear something up about the race start time: Since daylight savings kicked in, does that mean that races will effectively start an hour later now? I'm asking because the race start is still listed as 21:00 GMT and there's been some confusion at the start of the last race.

Not going to be free this weekend guys, sorry fellow Redliners. (actually, it might be better for the team if I don't race much :p )

Hope we get a big stash of points.

I haven't really seen Vissione in GT5 since like round 3. Unfortunately someone went a little bonkers on him....and I get this feeling he isn't coming back.

Maybe he's just on hiatus, I really don't know, but seems we might have lost him. Hope I'm wrong.

Vissione is the guy that hosted live streams right? Last I saw of him, he was in the Trial Mountain lobby practicing after he complained about cheaters and guys going just for lap times. He seemed like he was genuinely practicing though.

Since my question from last night hasn't been answered, I'll rephrase it into a very simple yes/no question:

Will this Saturday's event be starting when this countdown reaches zero?

Sorry about that. Some of us were kinda confused as well thanks to this whole GMT-not-on-DST-yet-but-everyone-else-is thing..lol

MM always says that the counter is correct. So if all else fails and the wrong times are showing in the schedule, trust the counter.

GMT never goes on DST, it's the same throughout the year. That's why I was asking, most of us have switched an hour ahead and as a result the races should now be an hour later than they were pre-DST since GMT remains the same. For me the races will start at 23:00 instead of the usual 22:00, the clock is counting down to 23:00. And I got the impression here that people assumed that GMT changed as well and that the races will be starting as usual. I just want to completely clear this up so that I don't join the race an hour late.

Ah, well it looks like the clock WAS wrong this time, but it's corrected now with Angst's post. Damn confusing time zone stuff.

I'm really psyched for this weekend after that practice. Car felt good and I was on the pace. I'll upload some videos in a tick including the next exciting episode of the ongoing UFRA vs. Mush saga. ;)
