Guacamelee has expanded Vita controller functionality

They are the first game to use a touch screen/tablet device in console game arnt they?

Not that it matters

Real Racing 2 did it first. :P

You know better Tobor. iOS gaming isn't real gaming.

a lot of people did this first
a long time ago
and a lot better

in the OP, they are literally claiming to be the first to do this, explicitly comparing themselves to Nintendo.

"as far as we know"
Yes it is an ignorant statement and they are comparing themselves to the next gen console WiiU. To my understanding, they are saying Guacamelee is the first game to come out prior to WiiU and do what WiiU does hence
"Does this sound like a next-gen console you've heard of perhaps?
But they are not the first, Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 PS3/Vita did it before them. (PS3/Vita game connectivity-wise)

PSP has Game Sharing feature, which is basically the same as DS Download. (A bootable app stored in memory that contains a portion of a game for multiplayer or demo sharing.) As a multiplayer fan it's disheartening to see that feature not on the Vita menu (not that it was used like crazy on PSP, but there are notable games that employ Game Sharing, some of the perfect-for-it games like Bomberman and Tekken and MGS Portable Ops and M.A.C.H. had it, but so few games overall did and nobody ever gave the system credit for the feature.) A simple update or app addition on Vita, though, and it could include that feature set easily if they felt it was needed.

Vita also could communicate to the PS3 via a dedicated App download from PSN (buy Guacamelee and get a free map app for Vita) or that same app could be transferred over USB. Or, the joint game versions could have the feature, as you mentioned. Or they could go through Remote Play. There are lots of ways for Vita to talk to PS3.

I see. Thanks for the thorough explanation.

The thought of a separate application to be downloaded on the Vita crossed my mind, but I can't see that happening from a 3rd party due to the associated costs. From the 1st party side, I know Nintendo did it in reverse with Band Bros. (where you can play the DS game on the Wii after downloading an app with a download code) and sort of with WarioWare D.I.Y., but that's about it.

Wii U isn't the first time Nintendo's tried two screen console gaming. It's just the first time a nintendo console's been adequately designed around it (see multimedia functions and awesome response and rendering time)

That "As a <x> fan, this makes me sick" thing is hilarious because no matter how many times I see it, someone still falls for it.

Four Swords Adventures does all of that and The Wind Waker does a lot of that.

I am interested in seeing how it's implemented. IIRC the Vita nor original PSP have the equivalent of DS Download or GBA download.

Edit: I see you get both versions of the game when you buy it, so maybe that's how.

It'll probably be how the PSP does it with singstar- via remote play.
(if you activate remote play while you're playing singstar, you see the song library and can que up songs. no need to download anything. IIRC.)

remote play works just like wii U i guess- Basically just streams stuff to the handhled to display.

This game actually looks very nice.

But for that statement about WiiU. Well, GBA and DS happened, you know.

Wonder why didn't they just make the game for Wii U, where such a feature won't go nearly unused.

Because this appears to be a "value added" feature, rather than something that is required for gameplay.

There's a PS3 version of the game, and a separate PS Vita version. However, they're both being sold together on PSN as a package deal (buy one, get both). If someone happens to own both systems, then he could take advantage of the option of using both of them together to play the game. If someone owns only one of the systems, however, then he could still play the game in the traditional manner.

Nice, so I can play the game on ps3 with the awesome vita-dpad.

Is the PSV d-pad that awesome? Curious, I know the handheld isn't doing well...but I might get one when Little Big Planet is released. That and these games where you get a copy of PSV and PS3 game with purchase are starting to make it tempting. :-/

I'm pretty stoked for the game and I love seeing smaller developers going the extra mile with useful features but it's pretty obvious what they're trying to do here.

Yep, grabbing attention by lying. It's an old, tried and tested formula, and it still works from the looks of things. :p

Still think it's cool they're using the Vita like this, as I am hoping many more games will in the future, and yes, the Vita's d-pad is awesome.

All this Vita/PS3 connectivity is making me pretty happy to own the handheld right now. PBR, Sound Shapes, LBP 2, Guacamelee, MGS HD... let's hope they can keep this up.

Being a buy one get both download game helps make this a more interesting proposition too. Plus, these guys have a good record.

Is the best D-Pad I have ever played with hopefully Sony takes note when Designing the DS4!

it's like a mix of the Sony D-Pad & Nintendo D-pad using the best of both of them

Edit. I posted this in the wrong thread.

This game has a sweet style to it. I'm interested. I particularly like the clean action and detailed animations.
