Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 |OT| Anyone can save the galaxy once - SPOILERS!

Can we talk about all the colors becusse man all the colors :O it is fucking amazing and so much better then the bleakness that is in all big budget blockbusters this days...

I actually had a problem with that, I love me some 80s aesthetic neon colors. But fuck, that was too much. For example, I think there were 4 or 5 instances of rainbow fire, and it just felt like too much.

Will Forte in Last Man on Earth is one of the few actors who can make freakin/fricken/friggin work.

Agreed.

Anyway, this might be a small nothing of a thing. But when they first get to Ego's planet, they're on that milky boomerang and he says "it's not much, it's the size of your earth's moons".

I watched it twice, there's definitely an "s" at the end of moon. Why does Ego think the earth has two moons? Or is there another way to punctuate that sentence where it's possessive or something.

Loved the movie. Question for the group: Was this the best shot Marvel movie?

I feel like most Marvel movies have a ton of tight, or 3/4 shots, Especially dialogue scenes.

This movie had so many contemplative wide shots, interesting angles, etc. It really stood out to me while I was watching the movie vs. other marvel movies.

So I can't help but wonder how they handle the Guardians in IW and GotG 3. They need to tackle Peter's family dealing with a missing child and his/their reactions upon returning home but that seems like a lot of heavy stuff that will take a lot of focus away from the main plot in Avengers. And saving that for 3 seems odd as I wouldn't want the Guardians on Earth there because it makes for an odd transition point back into the cosmos and I certainly wouldn't want another "must save Earth" scenario.

But in terms of the music as a character, I'd love for Peter to go through his own collection (New Kids on the Block: Hangin' Tough!), or his mother's full vinyl collection (more Bowie!) or even introduce us to his grandfather's collection after learning of their musical bonds before he was abducted. Or a mix of all on the soundtrack as Peter learns to upload and create playlists.

Which reminds me, IW should just have him jamming to a Star-Lord hype playlist on his new Zune.

So, I'm guessing that Mantis is supposed to be gay, considering how pretty much the first thing that happens in Avengers Academy is she suggests Pepper Potts kiss her.

I kind of picked up on that when she said something to the effect that Drax wasn't even the "type" of thing she liked.
Good catch.

To me it was, especially for the vibrancy alone. I don't think I ever struggled to make out a shot, except for the beggining because I was too distracted by Groots dancing to make out the background action lol.

Saw it yesterday and loved it. Definitely top tier Marvel. I didn't care too much for the first Guardians but this one was fantastic. Up there with Iron Man 3 as one of my favorite MCU movies.

Does everyone love that the crew treats groot like their little baby, they actually baby him alot

I loved Rocket taking the time out to stop fighting the monster to make Groot spit out the bug.

Why would they need to deal with Peter's family?

A) Does he really even have any remaining family? His grandfather was fairly old during the flashback in the first movie. He may have passed on, and it didn't really seem like he had any other immediate family.

B) I'd imagine the whole Infinity War scenario is going to move pretty quick, so he may not have any downtime to pop over to visit his family.

C) Would any remaining family even recognise him?

D) He clearly either doesn't want to or is avoiding going back to earth. He's had the capability of doing so for quite some time now, but that he hasn't is very telling.

The Guardians will probably be a late-stage addition to Infinity War. Either they arrive during a showdown with Thanos on earth because they caught wind of it, or they show up to provide the Avengers with transportation to wherever Thanos is.

My best guess is that in Infinity War Volume 1 (or whatever) there's a battle with Thanos on earth and Thanos flies off into space and everyone's like "Well, crap. Now what?" and then Thor's all like "I know a guy" and the Milano shows up, then Infinity War Volume 2 is primarily in space.

You know I really really enjoyed this movie except for one thing.

The soundtrack outside of 2 songs was TERRIBLE in comparison to the first movie's music.

Whoa whoa whoa... I might be in the minority but I honestly thought the soundtrack to Vol. 2 was stronger than Vol. 1 - even if by a hair.

Though perhaps hearing The Chain, Come a Little Bit Closer, Wham Bam Shang-a-lang and Father and Son used within the movie's context might be coloring my opinion a bit.

He literally said I see Eternity while having the stars and shit go through his eyes

Right, he said eternity. Because space is vast and forever. I doubt they're name dropping some celestial that Quill probably never heard of, nor would he or the general audience give a shit about. It just doesn't work in the context of the scene, regardless of "stars and shit".

Gunn being Gunn, I'd say it was probably intentional. Quite a few of the names are super obscure deep dives (Kraglin, Taserface, etc) and he's explicitly thrown in super obscure characters (Eson the Seeker, a whole movie based around Ego the Living Planet), so he had to have known the weight a character talking about "eternity" would have.

I hope not. Teenage Groot looks like he could be a fun character.

Speaking of Groot, how did he get the finger without waking the person unless the dude was dead or super knocked out?

Next time we see him will be Infinity War. He's going to be bigger than he was in the first Guardians, as he wasn't even full grown then.

I feel the connection to his blood family is a unifying theme and coming back full circle shouldn't be hand-waved as pointless. Even if it meant visiting his grandfather's grave or having a flashback showing what his grandfather went through and how it could connect to a theme GotG introduces.

I find it hard to believe Peter's return to his home planet would be inconsequential.

Just watched it.
"I'm Mary Poppins y'all!"
#Dead
That's all I gotta say.
And the mood swing in the last part of the movie is too well done lol. Loved it.

But...

How would just simply seeing eternity be some kind of temptation to get him to join? Unless there was some kind of promise of "becoming" Eternity itself.

Maybe it isn't a being but a personified form of a state of mind or something like being one with the universe in the MCU but alluding to the being that is referenced in GotG as linked earlier.

Because eternity is all of time and space. Being able to see all of time and space sounds like a pretty good selling point to me.

His grandfather actually shows up in the movie. And I'm thinking it's the opposite, the Guardians show up at the start of the movie, to warn Earth. Would allow for the traditional hero fights hero phase...

Think cosmic horror and how the knowledge of incomprehensible vastness and insignificance drives men mad

What? This movie is filled with references general audiences wouldn't give a shit about. Eternity is an easter egg reference in the first movie. I think Gunn knows exactly what he is doing. It's vague enough where the general audience doesn't go "Wait. Who's he talking about." but fans can go "Oh shit, I understand what that means". Again, I'm not saying he fully understands what he's seeing in that it's a being named Eternity, but somewhat like you're saying, he's seeing the concept of him and through his Celestial connection is able to call it out by name. Not sure how that doesn't work in the scene.

We've agreed never to speak of this again ;)

Cool. So anytime someone references death, we'll just go ahead and assume they're talking about Lady Death as well, and not the general, widely used concept.

Do you think that wasn't a reference to her in the Avenger's Thanos stinger? It's about context.
By the way, what was up with that Stalone Squad teaser

They're all old school Guardians of the Galaxy characters. Supposedly they want to do something with them.

Nah it was perfect. There's not enough super colorful and vibrant movies, I loved it.

By the way, what was up with that Stalone Squad teaser

They're the OG Guardians of the Galaxy from the comics.

The current lineup with Star-Lord, Drax, Rocket, Groot & Gamorra (also Mantis by default) is the newest iteration.

Yondu was part of Stallone's Guardians in the comics.

Just got back from it, loved it. Did not expect to get so emotional in the later bits, but
Yondu's death was really well done. Wished I got to see him kick ass in Infinity War, but alas.. great send-off. Also loved Peter going ham eafter Ego casually told him about the tumor.

I wonder how much Vin Diesel got paid to do a voice that had to be altered to sound significantly un-Vin Diesel.

Actually from what I was hearing/reading, that was Vin Diesel's voice with very minimal changes from the audio crew. There's an interview floating around where he talks about how he's imitated cartoon voices since he was a kid.

I encourage everyone to go look up Vin Diesel talking about voicing Groot in his interviews and stuff from this movie. He really loves doing it and its super sweet.

Yeah. Saying 'Eternity' is specific. It's seeing forever. If it was him looking at the cosmos, he would say 'Everything' instead, and it would make sense. You don't see eternity, but you can see everything. Unless it's a who.

It could just be a little nudge, and nothing could come from it.

Mos def a solid MCU film, lagged in some places but the lags are short.

I think Gunn took notes of the common nitpicks MCU films get and did things very greatly.

Gonna be weird going back to Earth with Spidey and then back to the cosmos with Th-o-ree.

who the fuck is this eternity everyone is arguing about?
