Guild Wars 2 Launch Date announced: August 28th, 2012

Diablo 3 should of made you forget about diablo 3.

Actually no it isn't. People tend to relate rangers as ranged class in games, but that's not their real definition. There's quite a few well known rangers in fantasy that don't rely on ranged weaponry (drizzt, Aragorn). That said... ranger has access to melee options that are just as good as any other class, why should they then get a range option thats better than all classes?
Because Greatsword Rangers will likely be nerfed :p

Just a quick question...

Is the world 'seamless' like WoW, or is it broken up into loading chunks like most other theme park MMO's. Also, how big is the world compared to WoW?

There are loading screens between each zone, but the zones are quite large.

World size seems to be larger than WoW, but we don't have an exact comparison that I know of.

Thanks. I pre-ordered last night and have the beta downloaded, ready to check it out myself for the weekend. I can't wait!

Blargh, I missed the mumble meet and greet.

Was too busy eating dinner and watching Deep Space Nine.

At last, 30/50 in my HoM. Tempting to go for 35/50, not sure if I can be bothered though.

Grats!!!

I just got 30/50 tonight too :D Thank you everyone who helped me out!

I'll still be on during the day cause I want to go through Winds of Change just for fun, but if anyone needs help, feel free to send me a message :D ign Frog Pajamas

If i don't see significant improvement for the game during this beta event i will be official worried. It's getting close to a month from release. Before anyone says 'it's fine' or 'it's a beta' need i remind you about previous MMO disasters?

Again it depends on the final beta before into spaz mode.

what kind of improvements? performance? gameplay? you should be a bit more specific.

8gig ram
5870
i7-870

Game ran like arse.

The simplest way to explain why that was the case for BWE1 & BWE2 is that the CPU isn't handing off instructions properly to the GPU and is getting hung up there. They are very aware of this as that is the reason they gave for why the game doesn't run any better when changing graphics settings in-game. Also, the game wasn't fully multiithreaded. If you played BWE1 but not 2 you may have missed some of the optimizations done, but given the fact that there's likely to be over 100k people coming in through key giveaways alone, you should expect optimization to have been the bulk of their programming work the past month. That and the fact that they're nearing launch and all software development holds out optimization until close to release as optimization beforehand is literally a waste of time. Optimization will continue even after BWE3.

you gotta give me more than brand and stuff like that. also, the 5870 doesn't tell me anything. Proper specs list please.

I'd give him that, I have these specs and it did not run perfect. It needs some optimizations still and hopefully this next beta has them.

i5 3570
Gigabyte GTX 670

Mostly performance and bugs.
Yeah, I'm worried about this too. I have a decent PC (i5 750, 6870, 4gb ram), and the game hasn't run well on it during any of the beta events or stress tests. I'll be pretty disappointed if I can't get 60fps, or close to it, at launch. Especially when I thought this game would be very optimized like GW1 was.

Didn't ArenaNet originally said during BWE1 that the game was mostly running off the CPU?

I kept hearing that during BWE1 from players concerned with , but not during BWE2.

That's a fairly common misconception as to what that term means. Essentially the CPU was failing to send off instructions to the GPU so the GPU barely did any of the work it should have been doing hence lower FPS than you'd expect and why those who had 5ghz OCs on their CPUs saw such great performance. Your GPU was doing SOME work, but not the amount that it should have been.

Ya I'm hoping to see some performance improvements this beta.. if they don't get it ironed it's going to bite them in the ass.

Was this happening on BWE2 still? It ran better for me, but far from perfect, and I really hoped there would be more improvements for BWE3/Launch.

PhenomIIBlack, Radeon 6850 and 8 Gigs of Ram here.

I know it's a very common problem of MMOs to run choppy on even good machines, but regarding this GW2 has been somewhat disappointing for me.

Was it already known we get to play the Asura and Slyvari? Man, I'm so behind on the news of this game. Got my email. looking forward to tomorro...er later today :D

This close to release they damn well better be. I'm not expecting complete perfection this beta weekend but I'm expecting it to be significantly better than the last beta weekends.

I am so looking forward to this. First hands on with the Sylvari :D

I still can't decide what to try first, Engineer or Thief Sylvari >_< My Asura is going to be Warrior though.

Yeah, Asura Warrior will be the first thing I'll try. Then, Sylvari.. uhm... maybe Necro? Ranger? No idea :(

For those who have played the previous beta's, is it worth it to play tonight (starts 21:00 here), or will it be plagued with errors and lag i might as well do something else with my evening and start tomorrow?

The last BWE's were perfectly fine for most of the time, this time a lot more people on a lot less servers will join though. Gotta find out for yourself, I guess.
