I need 50, don't I? I have only two D:

It definitely is a grind to do. The only reason I did it so quickly (relatively for me) is because I could jump around maps and grab cores while waiting for the Marionette or Triple Trouble to start. When things got close to the timer and I needed to sit in to get GAF members into the overflow I was still running around since both Lornar's Pass and Bloodtide Coast have three node spawns.

Yesterday I stopped running the events after 11pm (EST), did you guys keep going? Were you able to complete them?

I got off around 8 or 9pm to shovel snow and get some sleep, then popped on again at 2am where we did another Triple Trouble (failed) and then a Marionette (success!). Afterward Jira and I went to Scarlet's Secret Lair for the first time. Late night GAF helped us through the instance.

I'm very confused.

The marionette was on the even (EST) hours yesterday, but today it's on the odd.

Today:

Marionette: 11am
Wurm: 12pm

How? I know math isn't my strong suit...

There was an update last night which could have caused the times to flip.

Also if someone can answer my questions on the second and fourth image in the album, I'd be grateful.

I think the Zephyrite crystals were longer and thinner than that one (and there weren't any green ones were there?), it looks more like jade to me. Though having said that, it does look a bit like a quartz node.

I'm very confused.

The marionette was on the even (EST) hours yesterday, but today it's on the odd.

Yesterday:

Marionette: 2pm - 4pm - 6pm - 8pm - 10pm - 12pm - ?
Wurm: 1pm - 3pm - 5pm - 7pm - 9pm - 11pm - 1am - ?

Today:

Marionette: 11am
Wurm: 12pm

How? I know math isn't my strong suit...

Marionette has always been odd EST, Triple Trouble even EST. Before and after the hotfix patch.

Proof:
Oh wow, just did a failed Marionette fight. The mechanics are *great*.

You made that post after finishing a Marionette fight that started at 1pm EST.

The update happened between noon and 12:30pm yesterday, and the first thing to pop was Marionette at 1pm.

Hey guys, a while back I bought some ingame stuff like the pickaxe and pets etc. Now I'm wanting to move servers, but too much of a tightass to spend the money for it. All my characters are low level, so I don't have any issues deleting them, the question is whether or not I'll still have access to the items I bought. Can anyone confirm this?

Throw them into your bank.

Pets will sit happily in your account bank waiting for you to withdraw them (as long as you remember to deposit them before nuking characters!) but your harvesting tools are probably soulbound (non-transferable) until you visit a Black Lion Weapons Specialist in the Black Lion HQ in Lion's Arch and exchange them for account-bound versions.

Is the black lion hq accessible early on? My highest level character is only 30 I think

You can get to LA at level 2. Just pull up the PvP menu (crossed swords) and go to the heart of the mists and then into the Lion's Arch portal. The specialist is at the top of the Trading Post staircase.

Pets are account bound and will be safe in your bank / collectables tab.

The Pickaxe might be listed as soulbound; visit the Black Lion Weapon Trader to convert it to soulbound, then that can sit in your bank.

Any skins you have be applied to a white or blue item of the same time, which will make them account bound rather than soulbound. While we're on the subject, this is also a great way to get Necromancer eyes, guardian shoulders, etc. on any character. Including engineer backpack, which can be on any profession. Get a Quaggan backpack kit (has to be the kit, not just the skin) and you can slap that backpack skin on the 'backpack straps' item.

Make sure you save any bags, and check your town clothes in case you have something there (for example, I accidentally deleted my GW2 Logo Hat).

Bug Fixes:

Fixed a bug in which the experience bar would always appear full after logging in or changing maps at level 80.
Fixed a rare crash when interacting with the meta-event UI.
Fixed an issue that was causing inappropriate player exit responses to display in some Living World NPC conversational text.
Destroyed energy probes will now be visible as icons on both the world map and the minimap as long as power core components can still be harvested from them.

Jesus christ.

Would it be worth rotating between wurms until they're super low, instead of splitting damage, in that case? Seems extremely effective.
SBI tried doing that earlier today, the BG method. We had Cobalt and Crimson down to 10% each but when the zerg got to Amber, we scaled so many champion husks that we couldn't stand still long enough for the warm to eat us; we died too quickly to the dozens of champ husks. Never seen that many champs before. At least we defeated Marionette before that.

Goddamn we're getting good... gotta get in on this but tonight and tomorrow are both iffy, blah...

Not much luck today in the screenshot department, so I revisited one of my favorite areas:

So the Chinese beta is going again and get this...

Cannot enter WvW until level 35; cannot enter PvP until level 45; 5th skill slot doesn't unlock till level 9. Dat slowed progression. I mean they know what that market wants, just thankful these kinds of things aren't an issue here.

Just some idle thoughts on GvG I'm too afraid to place anywhere else.

For one thing, if an official GvG mode ever came about, wouldn't people want it to be using the WvW ruleset for skills and gear? But then if any issue ever comes up with the balance, how are they going to have ANet fix it? Right now WvW exists under the caveat that they won't do any balance patches toward it except in specific circumstances, and even in those circumstances they default to just matching existing PvP rules when possible. If some big tactic ends up dominating the GvG scene, but doesn't effect WvW as a whole, how far is the playerbase going to suddenly demand that they balance WvW if GvG gets patched and then pointed to as a precedent?

And I wonder if that reason has been enough for ANet to hold back with anything GvG related. They know what they're playerbase wants, but know that they may not be able to properly serve it.

If they do put out something titled "Guild versus Guild" as a mode, it'll probably be in the Heart of the Mists. And if they don't write new servers for the maps the team sizes will probably be 8v8. Which then may cause rioting anyway because of the 15v15 setup that has been going on in WvW for the longest time.

And if a new game mode comes out in the next couple of months, whether or not it's popular there will be a group of people clamoring for GvG.

Don't overthink it. If any GvG oriented mode is coming, it will be very far in the future. By then tons of stuff can change that will direct the course of a GvG mode.
I haven't touched hotjoin in a long time, but at some point there were 10v10 matches, so if 10v10 isn't enough for their GvG, I don't see much of a hassle to crank up the number to 15v15, for example.

As far as balance goes, this is even more uncertain topic, mostly for the fact that they release a "balance patch" every 3-4 months with very little information about the upcoming changes.

In case of GvG, I think it's really hard to predict the outcome, mostly because even ArenaNet themselves have no idea what and how to do. They proved that point last year and continue to support it.

No PvP until level 45? wtf -- that's not even supposed to be linked to PvE/WvW...

In other news:

Game is dead.

Also, only 17g, and 155 Charr Carvings away from Incinerator as of this posting >_<

Very High doesn't mean lots of people online at that time just means whatever the cap they put per server the total population is getting close to cap.

It could say very high and no one can be online.

While I can understand the PvP and WvW stuff (event though I think it's pretty silly), I don't get the lock on the fifth skill. What's the point? It's not like it's better than the others.

Also, is the link for TeamSpeak in the first post correct?

Jira was implying that MMOs in China have a very slow progression system...seems like the did that just to make it seen like the character is growing as you level.

45 levels to learn 2nd skill on offhand item. Seems strange if you are dual wielding pistols....it's like the offhand is a slow learned and takes longer to master.

I'm pretty sure Anet confirmed multiple times on their forums, that it's exactly opposite to what you said.
"Population" in the World Select window displays the concurrent online users in the world. That is why, when you want to transfer to a "Full" world, Anet recommends to try transferring during off-peak hours, as there may not be enough players online for the world to be "Full".

As for the Chinese beta, I've watched few streams posted on reddit, with the idea to see that new "teaching/training" system, that they want to introduce for the new players. But I cannot find any info on that one. :/

Really? I guess I must have misunderstood but yeah, what you say about transfers make sense.

Ignore what I said above. I'm just too busy trying to make this game dead.

Spent 80 Laurels buying T6 mat bags.

You don't really get much out of them. But not like there's a better way to get them.

EDIT:

"Man, everything Anet does is just a zergfest, no challenge. We want raids!"

Triple Threat.

"What, we need to organize, figure out mechanics, AND coordinate? Ain't nobody got time for that!"

“This is the first time players get to see a little bit of the history behind Scarlet and tells the back story of how she looked into the eternal alchemy, and saw something looking back at her,” Mike explained in a typically excited fashion.

“This malevolent being out there was so powerful that it started taking over her mind and giving her suggestions in terms of what she should be doing and things like that. There is a big point here, in terms of the battle between Scarlet’s free will versus this creature’s and you’ll see her transformation.”
Someone is giving Scarlet ideas. Who could it be?

“A lot of the focus of these final releases will be putting the player character at the centre of the story again. For the personal story it was all about the player’s journey and during the last year we’ve been telling the story of the world. Now we want to get back to why the player matters in the story,” Mike again foretold, with the promise that Tyria won’t be the same after this current season wraps up.

“Nothing is sacred, everything can be destroyed,” he revealed in a rather foreboding manner.
Bye bye Lions Arch and possible the Order HQs.

Gonna quote myself, because I don't like leaving "pretty sure" statements. :)

From the GW2 wiki, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World

Notes

You cannot move to a world that is listed as Full. However, that status varies throughout the day and tends to drop during off-peak hours, i.e. if you are unable to transfer, try again when there are fewer people playing, e.g. early in the morning (server time) or during the work week.

On another note, can someone tell me (in a spoiler tag), what it is that I'm looking at on the ceiling in Scarlet's secret lair?

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm....

Final offhand skill is level 9, not 45.

Yep, this is exactly right. And even though they just did a server cap increase in December, I've noticed at least one server (Blackgate) is already at Full again

I don't think the new tutorial is done yet.

Also, is the link for TeamSpeak in the first post correct?

We use Mumble rather than Teamspeak, but yes, the info in the OP is correct.

"Man, everything Anet does is just a zergfest, no challenge. We want raids!"

Triple Threat.

"What, we need to organize, figure out mechanics, AND coordinate? Ain't nobody got time for that!"

Without getting into a huge, long psychological discussion, all gaming communities, but especially MMO communities, are populated by people who think they know what they want, but for whatever reason (nostalgia, lack of intelligence, groupthink, etc.) don't actually want what they think. The example that most of us are probably familiar with is the "Miyamoto Zelda Rant" image:
The other example, perhaps more relevant, are the people who constantly beg for a return of "Vanilla WoW" without realizing just how rough WoW was in the first year or so (in fact, a lot of issues like class balance weren't fixed until the first expansion).

Large population + persistent forum (outside of MMOs, not a lot of games have their own Official Forums, do they? I can only think of a handful and none with the kind of constant interaction MMO forums do) + groupthink = "We want X / we hate X we want Y / we hate Y we want Z / Z sucks, bring back X!"

On another note, can someone tell me (in a spoiler tag), what it is that I'm looking at on the ceiling in Scarlet's secret lair?

No spoiler needed. I don't think anyone knows for sure and anything at this point is just guessing. My theory is that the twisty, spiral design, especially around the face, suggests the tangled, vine-like appearance of the Nightmare Dragon you fight in the Sylvari starting area. Whether Scarlet can't get that image out of her head (I assume like all Sylvari players, all Sylvari in general experience that event to some degree in the Dream) or it is meant to symbolize Mordremoth, the Jungle Dragon, I can't say.

All I want, is a server that doesn't fail at Warden II. >..<

I've done the Mary fight about 18 times now, not a single success. If they don't fail at Warden II, they fail at Warden V.

Practically the two easiest. ;..;

@Retro: Reminds me of a quote by Chris Crawford, legendary game designer, who already in the 1980s said something along the lines of "People don't actually want anything new - they want the old, but be tricked into thinking it's new".

@Retro: Reminds me of a quote by Chris Crawford, legendary game designer, who already in the 1980s said something along the lines of "People don't actually want anything new - they want the old, but be tricked into thinking it's new".

Get out of my head, Charles.

I was going to post that exact quote but I couldn't find the exact wording quickly and I'm kinda heading out the door to pick up Mrs. Retor from work. But yes, that's the one.

I've been googling for the last half hour to try and find it, but I saw it somewhere pre-internet days, and now I can't find it again.
