To be fair, of the four Titanfall threads, 1.5 of them are criticism.

Oh yeah, I know. GAF seems to despise the XBone (and it's not entirely unfounded either, but that's... um... that's a whole other ball of wax), so of course the first big XBone exclusive is going to draw a lot of fanboy hate.

What I mean though is, a lot of games get to exist in a sort of 'protected' status where there's criticism, but outright trolling gets people banned because the mods pay attention to them because of their popularity. For example, Ash was banned for mentioning GW2 in a WoW thread. You can't get away with asking loaded questions when the moderators are always watching and come down hard on that. Other games sort of just exist, and threads about them aren't monitored nearly as closely, nor attempts to derail / troll shut down as quickly (if at all).

Like I said, it's not a GW2 problem, or even a GAF problem; it's an internet problem that some people can't just accept that they dislike something and move on; others must be made aware of that dislike and if possible, convinced to dislike it too.

The best you can do is make liberal use of the ignore feature, and like I said earlier, then you can actually see by way of the 'blocked' posts just how many people continually jump into threads about games they don't play to let everyone know how bad they are. Never mind that all the people who 'played at launch, got to 80 and got bored' have now missed about a year of updates (That's twenty-six content updates, and some of them like the wallet or culling change have made very large, fundamental shifts in the game).

Finally got home from work and I'm ready to rescue some baby quaggans. Does LA event reset on the hour?

Edit: That backpack above me was from the Bazaar of the Four Winds/Cutthroat Politics living story; it's called the Zephyr Rucksack Skin. You should be able to buy it from Sonder the Seller in LA/Vigil's Keep still for fortune scraps (if you can find them).

Correct.

Here's my cross-post from the "Guild Wars 2 Latest Update Destroys Hub Town" thread:

Some shots I took during the chaos. There's very little time to breath when Lion's Arch is open (there is a miasma buildup that forces everyone out after about 45-50 minutes, then it "resets" on the hour after some prelimiary events at the gates leading into the city).

nYmrwsD.jpg

You can see the "Breach" drill in the background, a giant thing that's burrowing into the ground where the old Lion's Arch from Guild Wars 1 was, under the water near the rebuilt Lion's Arch, which is now in flames of course.

XJgQhA0.jpg

The Molten Alliance is no joke in this. Those enemies that throw up a shield, making all enemies inside it invulnerable to damage, are back. They were great fun in the Molten Facility dungeon back in Flame and Frost: Retribution. Out in the open world, they can be a real pain.

FctOXbG.jpg

Some bosses make a return too, like this fun fella from the Molten Facility. A few others from the various Living Story updates past also show up in Lion's Arch during this sequence.

When you're not defending the various rally points around the city, or escorting citizens trying to escape, there are various 'Miasma' events people need to handle, or things end quicker due to rapid miasma buildup.

The drillbit in the water, dangling down from the giant flying thing in the sky. This was as close as I could get before dying.

Come now Miktar. :[ I had a few moment like that months ago, but you have to let stuff like that roll of your back for the good of the land. The good of the land!

You're right. But all the fuckin' shit that goes down on NeoGAF. We get the feeling we should fuck shit up,
Yeah we should fuckin' start a riot.

The 'Guild Wars 2 Latest Update Destroys Hub Town' thread. I can't. So many 'ug, that game is so bad and unfun lame lolz'. It's making me contemplate quitting GAF entirely.

"I leveled to 80 the first week and it sucked there was nothing to do. Combat is clunky. It's so generic. Quests are so generic. The world is generic. generic generic generic"

idiots.

Eh, there's certainly room to have that opinion, though like I mentioned, there's a handful of individuals who are almost be guaranteed to show up in any GW2 / MMO related thread, and are always guaranteed to make the same weak arguments when they do. Correcting them does not work. I'm not sure if they're fans of other MMOs and it's fanboyism, or the feel like they were burned by the hype, but a predictable core of GAFers can be counted on to make appearances.

The only consolation is that every time they say the game is boring / clunky / generic / dead, it seems like a few weeks or a month later we get a quarterly report or an interview where the game is, in fact, doing better than expected.

Oh, that, and watching the winds change in the MMO market and having them whine, scream and bitch about how the unreleased MMOs they're lusting after are all being 'ruined' because they crib so much from GW2. The EQN reveal thread where so much was revealed to be "just like Guild Wars 2" and the implosion of rage that followed was flat-out delicious. I keep thinking we should have run with that original "MMO Revolution" OT title since every preview and review uses GW2 as the measuring stick rather than WoW now.

That's amusing considering GW2 has one of the most fluid combat systems in gaming along with one of the best, if not the best art direction in gaming. People can say what they want about questing, but those people who say it's generic probably say that cause you're still doing the same things you do in every other video game ever (kill stuff, loot stuff, escorts, etc). There's no dramatic shift that's going to happen, we're always going to be doing the same handful of stuff as far as objectives go, what will change is how it's presented to the player (which GW2 does).

Lag is definitely bad at parts but its the lack of mob health that's annoying me. The zergs kill em so fast there's no time to even get credit for the achievements in some cases.

Idk if you played the Wildstar beta, but EVERYONE in there was whining that it was EXACTLY like GW2.

My interest in the game, even approaching it academically, is so tiny that I can't bring myself to try for a beta key even to see how bad it is. Which is also the case with TESO, except that I can't be bothered for a key because I already know how bad it is. But yes, the people who have sold themselves on Wildstar as the "Return of Oldschool Raiding" or the second coming of Vanilla WoW are in for a huge, Guild Wars 2 flavored disappointment curled up delicately at the bottom of a burning paper bag left ever so gently upon their doorstep. The market for that doesn't exist and anyone who claims otherwise is wearing nostalgia goggles as thick as Coke bottle bottoms and as rosy pink as a female flamingo's fun tunnel.

Like I said, the measuring stick for everything except profitability (which is a shitty measuring stick anyways considering WoW was such a once-in-a-lifetime / right-place-at-the-right-time success that will never be replicated in this genre) has changed. Quality of life, art direction, content delivery and (perhaps most importantly) payment model... those and more are all measured against GW2 now.

God damn, this event looks really awesome. Is it going to be up for a couple weeks?

Two weeks at least, then who knows what that drill is going to kick out.

I guess there's a select few people who actually want a static, trade blows, numbers determine everything combat system. I mean really FFXIV is the last of those kinds of MMOs so if people want that, they better get used to playing what's on the market now cause those days are gone.

Is there a way to still get this thing? I assumed it was a temporary reward from one of the living story missions a while back.
It was a temporary reward, but there are vendors still selling it and you can convert the rewards from the current event into the currency you need to buy it. Remind me later in this thread and I'll walk you through the process (mostly where the involved NPCs are).

What level do you need to be to join this event?

Personal opinion, but if you don't have someone to escort you I'd recommend being at level 30.

You should see the r/games thread about it. Every thread about GW2 on there turns into "I play for 1 week in 2012 and poopoo game."

I gave it a shot because of the building aspect of it, and I don't know, I couldn't even get to the part where I built stuff.

Which is also the case with TESO, except that I can't be bothered for a key because I already know how bad it is.

Speaking of TES and people being idiots, someone in chat was explaining why ESO was a rip-off of Guild Wars 2 and one of his main points was that the guy who does the soundtrack did it for GW2. At that point I just couldn't anymore. That said I sort of like TESO and once you get deeper into it (Daggerfall for me in the beta) it really opened up and became less of a shit show and more of an TES game. THAT said, I probably still won't get it.

This sentence is just amazing.

Anyone have screens of the airship pass area? Kinda wish I had waited on the royal terrace pass. DR as a hub doesn't really suit me, but buying another one is completely worthless.

Very well done update. Being inside the now devastated LA is a frantic experience, really impressed with the work ANet has done with this update. My only criticism is the lack of a good reward for completing the big events, but then again maybe none of the instances I've was in last night actually beat all the Miasma / Defend events.

Norn ladies look great in the Zodiac armor.

Thank you, I'd like that. The NPC wouldn't happen to be in the new Vigil hub, would it?

Checked the OP but saw no mention of it, so..

I'm interested in buying GW2. Are there any good promos around or is it following the model of "no promos. ever."? This is for the US servers.

Good news is the latest update fixed the mac FPS problem! The new content is actually playable!

Bad news is the game crashed twice during the chaos in mid battle and lost my spot in the overflow only to be kicked to lesser overflows. =/

Does GAF want to try the event tonight actually as a group? I know we had a ton of people running around last night but overall there weren't too many of us that stuck together. Would be fun to actually stick together and counter the main zerg.

There's regular sales from Green Man Gaming and amazon I believe. $50 seems to be the new regular price but you can get it for $40 at Green Man Gaming right now http://www.greenmangaming.com/s/us/en/pc/games/mmos/guild-wars-2-digital-edition-na/

I think the lowest I've seen it was $30 for a short period.

Also, all servers are currently available regardless of where you buy it. You can join a Europe or NA server no matter where you buy the game from or are located. The only one that will be closed off is the upcoming China release. GAF is on Stormbluff Isle which is NA although several members are on different NA servers and guest to the main guild server for events. You can guest anywhere within your selected region's list of servers but World vs World is restricted from guesting.

Thanks a bunch! Will probably join this weekend. Gonna get busy with the beginner`s tips :D

Is the zodiac stuff dyeable?

Everything but the blue skin, which isn't actually armor but a sort of 'skybox' that you look through rather than at, like the legendary greatswords.

Ceres already answered this, but I thought I'd mention that GW2 is almost always on sale at their site, amazon or Green Man Gaming. I swear, they rotate who has it on sale on a regular basis.

Also, I'll actually update the OP to mention that, in case anyone else is looking. Thanks. (Edit: Done!)

How do I enter this event? And when is best time?

Set foot in Lion's Arch to begin, the best time is any time. There are some points where the zone may be closed, since people failed the miasma event, but I believe it resets at the top of every hour. Honestly though, the miasma events were being done well enough last night that even when everyone was forced to evacuate, it wasn't much more than 5-10 minutes before we were fighting our way back in.

I would love to do this, and there's no excuse for anyone not to take part since the zone is easily accessible and up-leveled to 80. We'll need to do the usual ferrying to the right overflow, but otherwise I see no problems.

That's good, for me, since I didn't get a chance to try it last night (there is a sick baby in the household).

Yikes, hope the little future gold farmer is better soon.
