So, I'm not dating an asian girl from Taiwan (been in the states for like two months) and I'm wondering are there any "differences" be them cultural or regional. I don't want to step on any feet or do something too stupid.

cheers,

As a Taiwanese myself, I would have to say it all depends. However, you will probably have less cultural problems with her than with a Chinese girl, for example. Taiwan is a pretty westernized culture in terms of monetary value and so on.

She's only been in the USA for two months? Then you probably should be careful either way, she's still adjusting to her new home :P

I'm semi-dating a malaysian chick (I'm Australian, English/Irish/Scottish background) but she was born in Australia, lived in Australia all her life except for one year in Malaysia when she was like 6, and both her parents speak English around her so she doesn't even have an accent. I don't really have to worry about cultural differences unless it comes to her parents, who hate me I think... because I'm white. Woot.

Dude, you have great taste! Taiwanese girls are awesome.

Hrm... like someone already said, Taiwan is a pretty Westernized country so it should relatively straightforward. Just be aware of the myriad of Chinese no-nos, such as sticking chopsticks straight up in a bowl of rice and the like. You could probably search online and find a list of things not to do or say.

The only change in your life is that now when someone asks where you're going, you can say "going out to eat a little taiwanese" and it'll have a double-meaning. It works better for Koreans though.

Nice little Kevin Nash quip there.

Well played.....

I'm dating a Chinese girl and a Vietnamese girl. I used to date a Taiwanese girl. If they're not ABC or CBC, trust me, there's culture differences (I'm Latino). I think you're in for an adventure.

ABC = American Born Chinese
CBC = Chinese(?) Born Chinese

I know ABC is correct for sure as most Chinese parents actually use the acronym to describe their kids, but not so sure on CBC.

I'm dating a Filipina girl and there are some cultural and racial issues with her family (i'm black) Like when her cousin first met me, he was shocked that I went to college and have a regular job. He thought that all black people wanted to do is rap, sing, dance and play basketball. In his defense, he's only been in America for 6 months, and the only access he had to black people back home was MTV Asia. He'd never seen a black person before until he came here. When he met me he started talking "jive" to me, and let me tell you, there is no sadder site than a Filipino man in his early 30's trying to speak Ebonics. :lol I told him never to do that again.

From my experience... there are a ton of cultural differences. If you're very proper with excellent manners, good respect and all of that you should be fine though. Respect is respect and is appreciated worldwide. That type of thing will make sure you don't step on any toes. I think in America a lot of people don't take off their shoes when they enter the house, that's a very big no-no in asian familes. Other minor stuff is handing things to people with 2 hands instead of one (though that could be just a korean thing).

I always thought that was a Japanese custom.

Oh yeah, and be wary of her parents. I'm assuming you're not Asian, so they'll hate you probably.

No. I'm 6'3, blondish brown hair with blue eyes. Well, I don' think the parents would like any guy who is you know with their daughter.

Now THAT is funny as hell. Its always funny as a black man when I come across some white, spanish or asian folks who feel that they need to do something special to make me feel comfortable and fit in. If you want to make me feel comfortable, treat me like you do everyone else :) I mean I'm a very very easy going person - be yourself and I'll be myself and we'll have a good time...

You're black?

now that I think of it it is the avatar. something about that avatar screams that only a white guy would have it. I applaud you for crushing my apparent racism.

edit - and I don't mean "only a white guy would have it" in a good way :lol

Phoenix is black? Wow. Just Wow. One of my favorite posters around definitely but I gotta say Orin better watch out! :D

Pfft, he's not black. Black people can't afford Apple computers.

AM I RITE GUYS!? ROFL.

.......

(yes, I'm joking)

I'm Asian, have only dated Asian girls my whole life. But starting to notice white girls more and more.... too bad there's no chance in hell of me scoring one. :(

3 things to remember OP

1) whatever she cooks for you is fucking delicious. shut up and like it
2) learn to communicate, aka just agree with her.
3) dont talk about pets way too many girls want little annoying football punt dogs these days no matter what country they're from.

ok im just kidding , one of my bestest friends ever is a girl from taiwan. I dunno about her though...she has this small small frame and waist and this BIG ASS dayum...it comes outta no where and smacks ya in the face :D . Someone was dippin in the chocolate.

"Asian" is always a confusing term for me. I guess it's accepted to mean "Oriental", but then why don't people use that instead? Confusing, because where does that put Indians exactly? Last I checked, India was a part of Asia...though most white folk I know lump India in with the Middle East. What do y'awl think about that?

:lol That just doesn't apply to just asian women, but ALL WOMEN. ;)

I was always told that "Oriental" is demeaning, and should only be used to describe things, not people...like rugs or something. I dunno if thats true, thats just what I remember being told years ago.

I worked with a girl from Pakistan and she would go off on rants about how India/Pakistan is part of asia, and how she is asian, ect. It was fun to get her riled up, since she would start drawing maps....

I personally find most Asian women boring(but nice to look at) for the exception of Filipinas. I'm Asian and have had a lot more fun with Filipinas than any other ethnicity of Asian women. I guess that's why Asian girls are easy target for white guys. All they have to do is talk to them about some boring intellectual BS and show them some $$$ and they're all over you.

It's funny I spent some time in Japan and being a tall white guy it drove me nuts. It really did ruin all the fun of it. I could never have a Japanese girlfriend. Back home in Canada I've had Asian girlfriends but Asian girls in Canada are just Canadian.

I believe people from India and certain surrounding countries like Pakistan and Sri Lanka are collectively known a Desi.
Now hold on, some of you white girls are saying. I'd date an Asian! I've got nothing against them! That's great and all, but before you go patting yourselves on the back, take a good look at the Asian guy you're picturing in your head as the datable Asian. Does he wear Abercrombie and Fitch and drink lots of beer? If so, he's not a real Asian. He's a Twinkie - yellow on the outside, white on the inside, and full of crap. (Also bad for you.) Does he wear Fubu and refer to himself as a nigga? Also not a real Asian. (Heretofore these guys shall be known as 'Yellow M&Ms' - thanks Kono). If, on the other hand, he's got glasses and is more versed in chemical engineering than trendy clothes, you're a saint. (Give me your number.)
:lol

Indian and Pakistani's are from South Asia I believe. Technically still Asian, but not what most Westerner's think of as Asian. East Asian is the area that comes to mind for most.

I've had plenty of experience with Asian women. Dated a couple and was married to a Chinese girl, from Singapore, for nearly seven years. The biggest advice I can give, is win over the parents if you can. Mom especially. Make mom happy, and you'll be happy. :)

She should move to London, 'Asian' always means Indian/Pakistani around here, I guess because here they're more common.
