Starts out really groovy, punchy and funky with Wesley's Theory. I fuck with this in all respects. Not quite Section.80, not quite radical, and surprisingly coherent.

Is For Free supposed to be a palette cleanser like WTT had or... I mean it's one song in so I'm not even sure this can't be the reason...

Pause 4 Porno >>>>>>> For Free

King Kunta is dope. Kendrick got that presence on the mic and the production isn't over or understated. Very Dre.

The two Bilal tracks are nice musically, but Kendrick sounds awkward. Just doesn't fit him.

And somehow, his voice on almost all these songs thus far is seemingly weirder than usual. Lots of high pitched goofiness that just sounds off imo.

A lot of people are going to hate this album.

I'm feeling it. However, I understand how polarizing this is going to be.

I *think* i like U, there's some extra extra extra corny Nas-esque Who Killed It? stupidity with the voice stuff on that second part but i can feel his emotion, the content is genuine?

This version of i would be better if he didn't make random noises for #energy.

I like the live, impromptu feel to it at least.

Alright is cool. Probably the only track i've heard on here thus far that has a sort of 'talk to em' type vibe that i love (sorry) at least a couple times on an album

Institutionalized just isn't doing it for me. I don't know if I'd call it a bad song, but it has a couple attributes of one.

Hook is something I presume Kendrick thought was super dope and clever but after everyone was exhausted of alternate suggestions they just kind of looked at Kendrick like

Gives me garbo Isaiah Rashad vibes too

honestly for free is so trash that king kunta is actually welcomed to my ears immediately after, like i actually kinda like this song now lmao.

very clever kendrick, i see what you did there.

It's a more replayable album than GKMC.

That's all I got so far.

EDIT: Loving Rapsody's verse on Complexion.

For Free? is the I Know What Girls Like of Kendrick's discography. Don't need to run it back a couple of times to know it's utter shit and no amount of retconning or time will detract from how awful it is.

Anyway, overall i'd say it's a mixed bag so far, with some really dope highs and some discustin lows. We'll see.

Seriously. These interludes are trash.

Alright and Momma are decent. Momma maybe my favourite so far.

I'm pretty sure I know what Kendrick was trying to do with "u"

I'm pretty sure it's not doing anything for me as a song

After the first listen I like

1. Complexion
2. The Blacker the Berry
3. King Kunta
4. i
5. How much a dollar cost
6. alright

The rest are all ruined by a lot of cheese, like the affected voice at the end of u, the chorus of hood politics, the interludes in general, these walls (tho I think most "sex" songs are cheesy in general).

The second half is definitely more interesting, the first outside of king kunta sounds like starbucks rap
