I've bought Edge of Spider Verse #2 and Spider Gwen #1 on Comixology and overall I really like them, even subscribed to the Spider Gwen series.
I'm still not entirely sold on the artwork, I find the cover art to be vastly better than the panel art personally. Though it has been quite a while since I really read western comics, so I'm coming back from a long period of reading with manga artwork and need to give myself time to adjust back I think.

One question though, is there more backstory comics I'm missing?
There seems to have been references to 'Previously in Spider Woman'. Is there another comic I'm missing that goes into Spider Gwens origins, Peter Parker turning into the Lizard and then Peter's death?
Or are these events that have just been alluded to in exposition so far and didn't actually have any dedicated strip?
I just feel like I'm missing an origin story here.

Also is there ever any reference/explanation about Gwen's web shooters? Are they organic? Mechanical?

You can see them in the OP, I think.

Yeah, that's a panel from Edge of Spider Verse. Is that all the origin story we really have so far?
Her Edge of Spider Verse story was intended to resemble "an issue in the middle of a comic book series run"... So her origin story was largely omitted. But issue 4 and beyond are supposed to go into what happened to Peter Parker.

Are her shooters organic?

Unknown. Were never shown either way.

Quite liked the first issue. But now I'm seeing this stuff about her ending up in the 616 and oh god I don't know if I'm ready for this

I don't think Marvels ready to kill the golden goose yet wth this book, and the setting is a big part of the appeal. Maybe when sales start to dwindle they'll think about doing that.

There's posts in this thread that say they're gonna be doing just that, though. She's on the A-Force cover!

My main concern is mostly just "oh god what do I read". But I guess Secret Wars is a while away yet.

I thought the first issue was alright, but I feel more drawn towards Silk right now. Silk trying to find her own identity while Peter Parker is around is a bigger hook to me than starting off in an alternate universe.

A-force is part of Secret Wars, it's a special case. nobody knows who or what is going to be part of the marvel universe after that event is done. There's also a world exclusive to "spider verse" so she will likely be running around there too.

Well, they've left a lot of time between her start and current status right? Could always just have the comic focus on filling in her background while she goes and does regular hero stuff in crossover comics.

Ah, OK, that's fair enough then.

Spider-Verse is a new ongoing actually (as confirmed by Nick Lowe). And yes, Gwen is going to be featured in that book too.

1. Spider-Gwen and Miles should in up in 616 permanently
2. One more day nonsense needs to get undone
3. Peter and MJ are married again with baby May on the way
4. Peter becomes the experienced metor to the young new spiders instead hopeless slacker manchild he's become the last few years.

There. I fixed Spiderman for you Marvel. You're welcome.

Honestly, Gwen should stay in her world. She needs her own interactions. Miles earth is about to get curbed, so he doesn't really have a choice.

Yeah, I feel Silk #1 was better than Spider-Gwen #1 in terms of writing, though I do like both. But Silk has been featured in a few issues of ASM even before Spider-Verse started, while Gwen was featured in one issue of Edge of Spider-Verse. I'm sure Gwen's series will show a bit more backstory and get more interesting.

Oh, bitch bitch bitch.
Why would anyone want Gwen in 616? She'd have a lot more freedom in her own universe. I'll trade that for crossover potential or whatever any day.

True, that she already had a more established background probably helped. Generally it's great that Marvel decided to give both new Spider-ladies their own series.

I think I'd simply like to see Gwen back in 616, but true, from a story standpoint they can do a lot more interesting stuff this way

It would be interesting just to see Osborn's reaction upon learning of Spider-Gwen.

Just curious, at what point in your grand vision does Peter Parker succumb to his impulses and have an affair with a teenaged Gwen Stacy?

Honestly if the Ultimate universe was an animal, a judge would have ordered it destroyed because it was so damaged and in pain.

thats a pile of shit you dont want a new character stepping in. and the stacy kids are crazy enough to try to kill her

someone needs to be arrested for putting it back with the family after having its legs broken and braining it with a pipe

Lets be honest it doomed from the get god. Only half the team got the point of the project(Fantastic Four and Spider Man), and the other half thought "lets make everybody the same, but irredeemable assholes" (Ultimates and X-Men) was a good starting point.

None. Peter and MJ have the most stable, loving and healthy relationship in the Marvel Universe prior to One more Day.

Peter would bend over backards to help and teach her though. Teenage Gwen and Peter had great interactions during Spiderverse. She lost her Peter and he Lost he's Gwen. They'd make great partners.

I had fun with those assholes for a while though. Then it got destroyed.

Ok so excuse my ignorance for a second, but in the first issue Gwen references "fighting in a war for the fate of all reality" and there is an editor's note to see spider-verse. Does this story not exist yet?

- knowing her world is the only one that lost Peter Parker wears on her guilt <---- I've always loved Spider-man, but I was never fanboyish about him (that was the X-men), but this got to me as a fanboy and I :( ed. It also solidified me, as a Mary Jane guy, that I really liked Gwen Stacy now.

where does this happen?

The Spider-verse event just ended. That excerpt was from one of the issues.

oh ok thanks. I got confused between spider-verse, spider-verse team up, and edge of spider-verse. I'm mostly familiar with manga being one story in one run, so this cross over stuff is still kinda confusing for me.

I liked what I've read so far but I really disliked feeling like I missed something. Kinda weird they reference an origin story as if it was a previous issue but hasn't been shown yet.

Quite liked the first issue. Thinking about getting a sub for the first time in forever.

Unfortunately wasn't able to get a variant cover.

How are the Spider-Gwen comics?

I like it so far. The writing isn't as strong as Silk #1, but I enjoyed it. And the art is pretty cool.

Just look at the OP. All you need for her origin story (from Edge of Spider-Verse #2) is there. The issue continues with a plot line that picks up in Spider-Gwen #1, but it's briefly summarized in the first page.

Finished this and also read Silk #1 earlier today. I liked it, but I did also think Silk was better. Gonna stick with both though. The writing in the last third of SG is hilarious. Loving all the millennial cultural references. It's a very current book.

Spider-Gwen #2 comes out this Wednesday!
