Gwent - Open Beta Thread: Not bad, not bad at all

I love the bamboozle strategies in this game. Lead your opponent on for most of the game and then drop something crazy as the last card for a big turn. Really fun.

But also fuck those bears. Seriously 6 strength is too much. Not to mention the weird ass interactions and bugs. Even if all those were ironed out, 5 MAX for that card. Seriously. Let Triss be useful.

There is one good change in the patch for the bears. Before they will hit you before you make your action. After patch they hit you AFTER you make your action. So if you can kill the bear before thier turn it won't hit you.

But yea fuck the bear. Fuck all of skellige actually. While I don't think skellige is cheap like nilfgaard before the patch, they are just ridiculously over powered right now

It's honestly like there's 3 decks in the entire game, it's so shit. I don't understand how they think this game will have legs? It's so low down on Twitch that it was behind the witcher 3 for a while last week, the meta is so shit even Noxious is hating on the game, it's just terrible right now in every way. I can't even stomach watching it on Twitch tbh, it's so fucking boring.

Problem is they still also hit you after they shouldn't. They still proc on an action where they die or get locked, and they're hitting end-of-round Deathwish spawns.

But ultimately Skellige's is a faction where pretty much everything you do synergizes with the faction in some way.

Maxed out yet another batch of daily rewards. Todays matches:

29 wins
14 losses

Half of the losses are from skellige. Skellige truly fucks me over big time. Those axe dudes... holy shit. And nowadays, they hard counter me with toggle lock + decoy. No succubus can ever counter that. Absolute insanity.

I have the hardest time against skellige also. It's madness

And here I was thinking this game was pretty good... until I came here and found out its apparently dogshit. Interesting.

The meta right now is dogshit (in my opinion of course). It's just not fun to play and the top tier decks are so mind numbingly boring to play. There was more variety last week before the patch and even that was lacking variety. NG was not as annoying to play against as what SK is right now.

What is the meta? I only just started playing it and am using Northern Realms as thats what I liked in Witcher 3

Every single match today has been weather spam in one form or another.

Good to see the shitters that copy online decks and can't think for themselves are out in full force.

Never heard someone complain about netdecking before. Never.

It's a very normal part of card games. Also, if you're learning a card game, it's smart to net deck because playing weaker decks doesn't actually make you better at the game.

Oh I know that, i've been shutting them down easily all day. Just wished people would think for themselves and change up matches.

Damn, I started playing this week on PS4, I guess I made the right decision of focusing on Skellige deck lmao. Still missing way too many core cards, but I made a decent enough deck to farm those scraps.

Any tips on what should be my absolute priority for crafting? This is my current deck:

A lot of disconnects lately. Kind of don't want to play ranked because of it. Nothing wrong with my connection itself but the game timing out never goes in my favour so it must be something on my end.

It's not like there aren't more updates coming. Skellige is definitely going to be toned down next patch so craft what you think works well for you. That has always been my personal advice

What's up with the scraps glitch? Yesterday I had 190 scraps and was earning more scraps threw good games and winning but it wasn't adding to my total. Just now I was at 345 scraps and was earning a good bit of scraps threw good games and winning and I looked up on the screen and noticed it was still stuck at 345. I bought three kegs to see if that fixes it.

was struggling with bears until I threw some thunders into my deck. Kinda kills their whole plan.

Except they don't have 1 bear. It is a minimum of 2 and usually they have 3. But that's not the worst part, it's they keep reviving them after you kill them.

If they waste revives on bears early that kind of kills the rest of their game. They're not infinite

I'll put it this way, if you can kill 2 bears they probably won't bother with bears anymore.

No they don't necessarily revive them in round 1, but I played against someone who had 2 bears and 2 axemen and by the time I killed the 2 bears. the axemen were buffed pretty high.

I added more special cards in my deck now, and if I draw the right cards I can lock them down pretty quickly, I was just to have less special cards in my deck because now I am 39/40 and would like it to be 30/40

Milled the refundable cards and now I have a pretty good variant of the Life Coach's deck. Should carry me pretty well this season. Can't wait for the nerf so I can mill them all over again with another refund.

They either get rid of these refunds or people will always have the meta decks and possibly not bother buying kegs, if anyone even bother buying them to begin with.

What do y'all think the odds are of Hjalmar getting hit with the nerd-bat? Had my first 3 duplicate gold choice and I sorta banked on him getting hit along with SK in the next patch.

Who is the genius who thought giving a faction that has bears, axemen, and revives a kambi and hjamlar combo???

LOL at people who said skellige got nerfed in patch

Game is just not very fun atm for me :/

Just net decks and other bs, just not very fun at all.

The way the game is designed, you are always going to have lots of netdecks.

1. With the gold/silver/bronze division, everyone has a reason to only play 25 card decks.
2. With 25 card decks, all the mulligans, and a bit of thinning, you can play 80% of your entire deck, so it's very consistent. You can design a super combo deck and play it in most of the matches.
3. Therefore, because there isn't a lot of RNG in card draws unlike other games, you can netdeck very easily.
4. It's a F2P game, but it's more generous than other F2P card games. People love that right? The other side of the coin is that people have an easier time to craft the cards they need for that netdeck they just read about.

So make the game more RNG, and more grindy and expensive, and you will have less netdecks!

I think the card is fine, so I dunno.

It just currently has mad synergy with the other stuff they're doing. If they go bears/axmen/weather the body he gives the opponent just works in your favor, lol.

Yeah, I know. This is what we end up with. Everyone playing the same shit.

edit: It's also that the game feels more like straight up poker with the draws, either they get the full house or royal flush. Or you get a pair of two's :/

Like wtf is the point of having a 40 card limit when virtually everyone plays with 25 at minimum to draw into golds/silvers?

It's really boring though, for me to personally play with straight up copied decks. And really boring to encounter the same decks all the time. And I don't really agree that weaker decks can't make you better at the game. You still find synergies, counters and learn what works in your deck and what doesn't. Then you adjust the deck accordingly. I'd argue it might even be better for learning why something works and what doesn't than just copying decks without thinking the strategies yourself. Creating and trying out different decks is always like half of the game for me. Feels good to win with something you came up with on your own.

I've never played any card game on high level, so maybe you are right and I haven't learned =P

I still have an issue with silver weathers being too good, honestly I never had a problem with RnR and drought.

They were balanced when left alone on a 1:1 trade.

edit: For instance anytime I play a unit at all in this game I feel like I'm getting punished for it and it shouldn't be like that.

I try to play around, and the end result is the same.

It's just like some games where some asshole draws all his fucking golds in his 1st hand and there's not shit you can do about it.

There's zero skill involved, just fucking spam whatever and pray your opponent doesn't have an answer. That's all the game is really, it's praying the game.

There's luck in any card game, but if that's how you're playing this one, you're not playing correctly. That would be frustrating.

The problem with Gwent is there's no variety at all so netdecking is way more obvious than something like HS where you can play all kinds of different decks and still be competitive. There's also way less cards and half of them just plain suck so you can't even use them.

Let's be real, in vanilla HS, less than 70% of all cards were non-viable unless you were memeing

Yeah but I don't really care what HS was like then, the standard has been set with their new expansion where the meta is actually really good and varied. It's like how new MMO's try to compare to vanilla WoW and the comparison never works.

There's typically less people watching Gwent than there is Mario64 and Black Desert Online, competitively it's already dead.

As for the game, man I just can't find a fun deck to play outside of consume monster, the rest are just so fucking boring. The previous Avallach version of SK was so much more fun to play than this bear/axemen shite.
