Gwent - Open Beta Thread: Not bad, not bad at all

Just beat gumgum (Gwentlemen member, high tier player) in ranked. He got super unlucky draws with NG. Had to put resilience on a useless 3 drop. Drew one of those bronze activators when he had no spies etc. Got +75mmr from him. Almost rank 12 now yay!

Just hit rank 12 myself.

Spent way too much time trying to make NR work early on in ranked which delayed the climb considerably.

Nice. Still using that Skellige deck you posted?

Just two GG:s? Wow, have they changed the mechanic somehow from the closed beta? People GG:d there like 80% of the time.

No I mean that I got two GG's in a row and I saw nothing, that's all.

Like you said, 80% of the games are GG's.

Yea, but made some changes. Keep losing right before hitting rank 12 though. Always happens when I'm near a next rank for some reason. At 1900mmr again now for the 5th time today.

Welp, this deck sucks now, every deck is pure counter to it now. Monsters with renew/caretaker and row movers for the hunters.

That's the way the meta goes. The thing that sucks however is that unlike Closed Beta I don't have access to cards to switch decks rapidly :/

I always like losing to that guy who barely has any cards. Whether I played dumb or didn't get cards, it's nice to see people play smart.

I know I want to switch from Skellige, but I can't decide. Main reason is I'll have to spend scraps to make a half decent deck for another faction, and I can't commit. So I keep running my Skellige starter deck like a noob (I don't even have three Queensguards) >_>

lost over 80 ranking points due to ddos disconnects today, even though i was leading in both matches.. so annoying

I'm having a lot of fun with this, fun I wasn't having with Hearthstone anymore. It's nice to feel like making a good play has an impact on the final result. Even making a bad play and getting punished feels weirdly satisfying when you can get away with playing so badly in HS.

Anyway since I'm new I've been playing a ST dwarf deck and it feels good to play, it's basically the starter deck with Brouver and Dennis Cranmer included.

Second day in a row with last daily reward (meteorite stuff)... jesus christ

Edit: also, holy shit the timing

I jumped into Ranked for the first time with a modified version of the deck that Justin here posted. I made some of the adjustments that I described in my last post.

Hunters, Shieldmaiden, Coral and Harald Cripple have led to so many combos. Rag Nar Rog and Skellige Storm are efficient too.

10 matches, 8 wins, 2 losses. Nearly every win a forfeit during the last round.

The last daily reward is always meteorite I believe. Check the rewards schedule under options.
No I meant, it's crazy that I'm playing enough to get the final rewards ._.

Wow. Threw a match I would have definitely won by playing Dudu when they had a Savage Bear, didn't realize that would attack him before he triggers. Felt like a complete idiot.

I play Skellige and have seen it happen twice on separate occasions so your not the only one :p

TBH I didn't know it would do that until I saw it the first time either.

Lost a match due to drought :( was kinda close too and the units I had were all in different rows so I was getting minus 9 every turn :(

If something has 1 strength, bear sends it to the great beyond instantly. It even kills Yennefers unicorn since it isn't gold anymore.

I don't really like how they removed self wound. It was an interesting bit of flavor. It got a lot more boring once they changed how axe men worked.

So I was wanting to craft Coral but I'm not clear how her current version works.

So when you pick an enemy, does it dmg all enemies in the row by half of the selected enemies power? Or do the minions dmg themselves in half by their own power.

Everyone on the row is cut in half (except other golds). Do keep in mind it is half rounded down for odd numbered strength cards so don't just take the row number all the way on the left and half that when you are trying to math it out.

I opened about 4 packs and they aren't showing up when I try to make a deck from scratch when I pick a faction. Am I missing something ?

Pretty damn good day of Gwent. Climbed from ~1600 MMR to 2186, good for Top 600 at the moment.

What deck you using? Mainly seeing ton of NG. And some consume monsters to specifically counter Mork, but to be fair I see a lot of variation still at top 1000. Also see ST dwarves or special variations and also had some NR yesterday and Queensguard as well.

My record with my reveal deck is pretty spotty at the moment. I have a bunch of Nilfgaard cards to work with though. Should I just resign myself to using Calveit?

Reveal is better than it was in closed beta but I still wouldn't say it's good. Maybe they are just a bad matchup vs. skellige but I only lose to reveal if I get the absolute worst draws possible (no way of fixing a locked morg/olgierd)

The main thing that I don't like about is the poor card draw. I have Letho but I can never get him in the matches where he'd actually be super useful. The foot soldiers are a completely garbage top deck in rounds 2 and 3 that I hesitate to run them.

Yeah, Lethos is fantastic in round 1 when you pull him but he's in a weird place in rounds 2/3 because if you need to win, putting him down to eat everything doesn't change the fact that you have to overcome the deficit you are probably in (and you just basically passed a turn because all you did was add 1 to the opponents score. So unless you also have mardrome and dimeritium shackles on hand (which is so specific) then you can be screwed if the opponent want to take you all in.

I think there still aren't enough reveal cards oddly enough. Maybe it's perception but scoia runs those mulligan decks and I feel like they can mulligan more than nilf can reveal.

Have 175 ore, what to do with it?

Buy 1 keg, earn 25 ore and buy another keg.

Ore is only for kegs and I would recommend always using it until you get to a point where I could realistically hand you the blueprints to any deck and you be able to switch to it on the fly (i.e. collection is almost filled in).

Will ore always only be to buy kegs? Like, do we know if the multiple campaigns they said the game will get are going to be free, bought with real money or possibly bought with ore too?

I have not used any of my ores because I think how campaigns are accessed is still unknown.

No clue but you aren't going to progress if you don't buy kegs. Assume the campaigns will just cost real money and be pleasantly surprised if that doesn't end up being the case.

Edit: they won't be free btw, we know that. I believe the plan is only the first one will be because it'll be during open beta and be more of a mini campaign.

Well, I have over one thousand ores from completing all challenges and playing a little bit each day this last week to get the lowest daily reward tiers where the payout for the time put in is highest.

I'll just hang onto my ores until campaign access is cleared up.

If you have any interest in actually playing this game, I highly recommend against just hoarding ore but to each their own.

I have the biggest interest in playing the campaigns, not really into the ranked stuff or rather I would be into it if I could commit the time needed for it ;)
