Gwent - Open Beta Thread: Not bad, not bad at all

I dropped "Skellige Storm" from my deck and put "Blueboy Lugos" in. The whale should come in handy.

14 matches in Ranked and I'm currently at position 14147 globally. Slowly going up the leaderboard.

Edit: Oh, I forgot, crafted Wild Boar of the Sea one or two days ago and transmuted it. Guess what I got in my keg today... Transmuted Wild Boar...

Finally got myself premium Vilgefortz. Next up is Tibor. I can't remember when they changed them both to draw bronze cards but it sure feels good to punish overly efficient decks.

I've still got 5 cards in mine you bastards

Vilgefortz was always draw a card, it's just everyone always did a roach or medic sacrifice.

I meant when you use him for scorching the enemy. iirc he and tibor let the opponent any card and reveal. Now if you see rally into nothing its a free scorch (assuming they don't still have bronze specials)

What deck you using? Mainly seeing ton of NG. And some consume monsters to specifically counter Mork, but to be fair I see a lot of variation still at top 1000. Also see ST dwarves or special variations and also had some NR yesterday and Queensguard as well.

Broke down and switched to Nilfgaard. Been playing variations of both SuperJJ's Cycle deck and Merchant's Tempo deck, both of which are Calveit decks. They're both pretty consistent against the current meta decks, but it was definitely a transition since it's the only faction I didn't play extensively in Closed Beta.

Do anyone here buy kegs for real money? Just curios. I can see why people doing that considering the slow progress, tempted myself.

I was tempted, but the lack of cross-platform progress ultimately killed any notion in my head of paying for kegs.

Still, daily rewards are aplenty so I won't bitch about it.

Finally got to rank 7, yes. Even though the entire second round I was blinded by the 'you lost the round' screen [ps4].

Do we know if the SP campaign will be prebuilt decks or if you can create your own from your own card pool? The latter would be quite fun.

From what's been shown (which is like a 30 second teaser) it's going to be an RPG style thing where you can walk around, do quests and then buy/get new cards to build your own decks.

It looks pretty awesome imo.

Yea seems NG is the top faction atm. Which is one of the factions I put the least focus on in my kegs so far. I went for neutral/NR/SK/ST in that order. Rip.

Ouch... I get very worried about things like this. Not just transmuting, but crafting legendaries with scraps and then getting duplicates in kegs. There was a great post on Reddit suggesting buying two 60 packs of kegs right at the start of playing is the best way to go if you're definitely committing to the game. You then craft anything you're missing but still need afterwards. Buying kegs later on means you'll likely get legendaries you already crafted, and buying more than two 60 packs leads to almost everything being a duplicate from the common/rare tiers, many epics being duplicates, and you only average two legendaries per 60 pack, so... not money well spent at that point.

I've bought one pack of 60 just to support the game and feel like I paid "full price" for it, but I don't want to spend any more than that. I'm happy crafting my way to everything else. But if expansions work like Hearthstone, where we can buy kegs that only contain the brand new cards each expansion adds, I'm sure I'll spend more in the future.

Today I finally moved away from Skellige and picked up NF. Did MUCH better with the NF starter deck compared to the Skellige starter. Playing catch with cow carcasses is amusing! Still haven't spent any scraps, but I know I can improve this starter deck a lot with more bronze spies, which should drop from kegs; so gonna grind it out.
I'm level 8 currently.

I started playing a monster resilient deck which personally I haven't seen anyone else do yet. The harpy eggs act like a resilient unit since they hatch the next round. The Ekimmara gets resilience, and the riders get resilience if you lost the round. So I usually go all out to win the first round, but the harpy eggs and ekimmara(s) give me a huge boost in the second round, even if I lost card advantage. In the second round I play the riders so that in case I lose I still have cards for the 3rd round. If I think I will lose the first round, I instead play the riders first and then the ekimmara's in the second round to clench the 3rd. Sometimes though I can just blow the opponent out in the first two rounds.

I had someone play a deck like that on me in casual (Johnny VO? I think he was a pretty high ranker in the closed beta). It's pretty good, main thing to worry about is that the Riders are very much Geralt:Igni bait after they've triggered their trio ability, but honestly I don't think Geralt:Igni is very popular in the meta right now.

Ive heard a lot of people recommend to not mill a whole faction.. but why? You're not going to play ALL of them right? What's the downside of milling a faction you have 0 interest in?

Yea G:Igni isn't played a lot for some reason. I run him if I have the slot for it because it's just so good 9 out of 10 times. And if he's not good just mulligan him away. A lot of decks have a few same high str minions on same row now. But yea, not as used as in closed beta for sure.

I mean, you might change your mind later. Or a later patch will completely change the faction and make it super good. In that case re-crafting everything will take a lot of scraps. If you're absolutely sure you'll never play the faction though, you might as well mill it I guess.

I would absolutely play all of them if I could though. Having diverse decks to play is fun.

I have never played Monsters and don't plan to .. but wouldn't mill them.

It's nice to have a faction backup just in case if they become dominant in the meta.

I only needed 3 points to rank up, so of course I proceeded to lose 4 matches in a row.
-_-

I've been doing fine with my NG deck, but I seriously need some legendaries. I only own Cahir and Geralt.

What kind of title is "Man-at-Arms" ? I barely won against that person; he had a Monster deck and moved my units back and forth. Third round was won by 1(!!!!) point. Whew.

Really!? Your collection doesn't follow you from PC to consoles and vice versa?

EDIT: From the FAQ
CROSS-BUY: When GWENT launches on Windows 10 as an UWP (Universal Windows Platform) application, the account between UWP and Xbox One will be shared. That means progress and cards are shared between both platforms. Otherwise, every platform is independant and your progress will not be synchronized if you switch platforms.

That's really disappointing to hear. I assume when/if the game comes out on mobile it'll be a different collection there. Or hopefully they figure out cross platform collections by then...

Is anyone else getting the levelling up bug in Ranked? I get all the points to level up, but stupid game doesnt unlock the next level. It stays the same. Like I am level 16 Ranked 6 but my points are enough for me to be 7 but it wont let me.

Dropping Coral from my deck for the neutral silver special card version of her. Hjalmar gets into my deck instead. Fits perfectly with Cripple and all that damaging units.

It's one of the rewards for closed beta testers who made it to the top 500 - 1000 if I recall correctly.

:-o

So, I've already played against some of the "best". One was also a Mercenary.

Edit: Made a person forfeit because I stole their Tibor with Renew at the start of round 3.

Edit2: It feels good wrecking lvl20+ players :)

It says round end, brave, if this is on the board return to hand

So I interpret that to mean that if they win the round then it goes to the graveyard.

I have that card. Its a brave unit, if you play that ciri card when you losing a round and must be still behind oppenents total points after you place Ciri and whatever other card it may summon. Then if you lose that round, you get Ciri back.

Wow, lost the third round by 2 points because opponent's Ragh Nar Rog didn't destroy my Morkvarg but Savage Bear instead...
(both had 1 power left)

Stole someones spying False Ciri by locking it on my side afer it boosted up all the way during the whole match looool. That dude was pissed

Tibor is a bs card. You can get a 25 power card with no effort whatsoever. Why does it even have 10 base power? Make it 25 already. This card needs a big nerf.

+I'm sick of playing against Scoia or Nilf. I can flip a coin before matchmaking and assign heads to Scoia and tails to Nilf because that's 90% of all players I encounter.

Yea, I mean if you think about it. Hjalmar is really only a base 15 minion power minion. Unless you have synergy your still giving 5 power to the opponent and spending another 5 to kill it.

For me to get the max value in a queen deck I need savage bear on board with drummond shield maidens.

No Skellige? :p

I'm just a NR trash who loves spamming siege weapons with my crewmen cards to get repeat/enhanced effects. I usually cream opponents in round one, forcing them to burn their golds early. But if I can't put them away in Round 2, I gas out.

I can't go the distance!

But watching my trebuchets butcher an entire row always makes me giggle.

Tibor is strong but there are a few things you can do against him. I have won a few games by passing before playing my last card in order to deny the +15 pts the NG player was banking on. Dimetrium bomb is also a strong answer to Tibor if you have card advantage.

Yeah, you basically need one additional card to make Hjalmar 25.(that one silver unit that can make 5 damage)
No Skellige? :p
In 1 out of 10 matches.

What can you do if he starts a round? Nothing. He gets a 25 power card.

Hah, my opponent today played Tibor in second round (he won first) as his last card, getting to 83 points. I still had three cards left and got over the 25+ points advantage with only two cards. He immediately forfeited (I had two cards with resilience).

25 pts minus the card you draw. I am not here saying Tibor is not a top tier gold, but I think how he is perceived is half of his problem. He is part of the best faction right now (probably), and it is a card that is played to close the game and because of that it is easy to reduce a game to its impact.
For example Kayran is pretty much the same card, just slightly worse but you dont hear about it like Tibor. Coral is often a 25+ gold, Bork too on top of my head.
I am often frustrated playing against Nilf, but it has more to do with their whole package than just Tibor.

Love this game, got that legendary rah card last night. Shoots fireballs on all 3 rows. Shits useful on the winning hand. The yennefer gold is also clutch.

I'm always worried about someone doing that, but very few people seems to run locks that I've encountered. Seems like such a huge risk.

If they lock fake ciri and then pass, I'm assuming unlocking it won't cause it to jump back over?

Plus if you use holger to kill lord of undvik to buff Hjalmar your potentially wasting the 5 dmg on enemy card that might pose a much bigger threat.
