Gwent - Open Beta Thread: Not bad, not bad at all

Got Fiend in a Keg, but then went & accidentally crafted Grave Hag instead of Water Hag... I wish there was a cancel button until you close card preview. Even if it's my fault entirely, I'm still bummed as a F2P player who's playing ~6-8 rounds a day.

I'm nearly at a 50%/50% rate. I'm losing most games because I can't get my most important cards. RNGesus hates me.

+I forfeited a ranked match for the first time. Why? I heard two cars crash outside my home and had to see if everyone is okay.

I think the Gwent gods will let you off for that one.

What's everyone's encounter rate with the factions?

70% nilfgaard
15% monster
7% skellige
7% northern realms
1% scoitatel

So sick of seeing nilfgaard almost every other match

Im around lv 20 playing in casual and its like:

- 70% Nilf
- 10% Skel
- 10% Scoi
- 8% Mons
- 2% Nor R

NG gonna get some huge nerfs for the final release for sure.

Haven't started playing ranked. I don't want to mess up my record as I don't have all cards for a desired deck. But who knows how long it'll take to get the right cards so I feel I should just jump in. :s

Not really once they patch out the vicovaro novice spy/emissary combo.

You have to keep in mind that there are a lot of people that played in closed beta where Nilfgaard wasn't very competitive. Now that they're pretty good it's like a whole new faction to play with.

Looks like the nerfs are incoming ( ͡ ° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I loved Gwent on Witcher 3 but I'm not really enjoying my time with this one. I tried playing for the last 3 days but I think this version just isn't for me. I might come back once the single player campaign comes out (I got really interested about the RPG aspect of it from the gameplay I saw).

Ironic how everyone screamed "a stand-alone Gwent game, how is this going to work, spies everywhere, overpowered nilfgaard" and look where we're at.

Played Swims new deck only and went like 8-2 or something? Or 9-3 or something like that. And got rank 13 and the 5 kegs for getting there, 1 had Xarthisuis in it too. Good times. Still just outside top 1000, but I'll take that for today I think. Seeing as only 13 people are rank 16. So 13 is pretty high now.

Oh yea, climbed back to 22 wins over my losses now too.

The Spellgaard deck?

Swim had been phoning it in lately. This one actually looks decent. Hope it's still abusable when I get home later.

Ran into a Reaver Henselt deck and countered the shit out of it. He had 4 since he used Operator round 1. Round 3 he uses Nenneke to put 3 back in the deck then places one down for the Henselt wombo combo. As soon as that first one comes out I play Sweers and send the 3 Reavers straight back to the graveyard. By the end he had nothing to use Henselt on lol.

Sweers might be my favorite card in the game. He doesn't always work but when he does. Oh boy

I'd like to see a match between #1 and #2.

+ Does Dimeritium Bomb work against Tibor, making him silver and 10 power again. It should, right?

I don't mean to be rude here, but did you play the closed beta? Because weather was just conceptually broken when it worked that way. The only reason people even ran it was because weather immune units existed. Without them, it just wasn't good enough. Why bother running a card that will severely limit your deck building options, only work against a small subset of decks and will probably get countered most of the time against them anyway.

This meant that the only decks running it were those that could counter the inherent weakness. Which meant decks fully immune to weather. Which meant weather effecting both sides didn't matter. And you think weather is bullshit now? Weather monsters completely wrecked people during a certain stage of closed beta, much more then they do now.

As a concrete example of just how pointless weather was: ST dwarves basically only played on the melee row, stacking an absurd amount of strength on it. This was literary the perfect target for frost. Except they also ran 3 first lights + cards that could pull them. Unless you ran an absurd amount of frosts, you couldn't touch them. So it was all or nothing - either make a super specific weather deck, or don't use weather. Your example also sort of points out why weather was weak in general decks - why bother running it if your opponent can just play on the same row to severely weaken the effect. Better to just run bronze cards with guaranteed value.

Now I can at least conceptually see people using weather outside of super specific decks. Wild hunt hounds get good value against row stacking even if opponent immediately clear skies. Same with other things that spawn weather. Sure, gold weather is pretty bullshit at the moment, but that can be tweaked. It's also not like weather decks are completely dominating the meta, so they aren't that strong. The redesign actually allows weather to be balanced at some point in the future, unlike the old system which was just conceptually broken.

I see. I was not in the closed beta so I had no idea about that. It makes sense, esp the bolded part.

I guess its better this way.

It should. Someone completely destroyed (well, it was still somewhat close...) me by using that gold card that banishes 2x2 adjacent cards + Dimeritium Bomb.

Just got into ranked. I hate Nilf and Tibor.

Edit: How the hell does one fight against Nilf with Monsters or skellige? Their spies and buffs are all over the place.

What is the deck like?

You just spam spells/weather while thinning the deck. Then last round you plonk down Bork while you keep pulling out golden enforcers so nothing on your own board dies. It's a bit tricky though, since you have to make sure you have a golden unit in your deck. But it's super funny to play.

Meh, number 1 and 2 don't tend to be god like greatness. It's just people who know how to abuse the ladder. I've spent time as number 1 before and I always do middling in tournaments.

Yeah, I still don't think he is supposed to work like that.

Yeah Letho is kinda broken :/

It can decimate so many different kind of decks. It can jack up queensguard, reaver decks, dorf decks, just about anything.

edit: The banish is what hurts the most.

Not fun to play against, for sure. Hardcore weather spam can easily defeat 3x Clear Skies + Mage. I was in that situation before.

I hope so. He did that to my cards, got a value of close to 40, I think. I was like: "Hm, I can still win this round". Then Dimeritium Bomb killed me (at least he didn't wait, making it an easy pass, mistake on his side).

Which deck are you playing?

Variations of nilfgaard.

Yeah, he should be raising base strength not power. I understand they changed him to be in line with tibor and kayran and that one guy from skellige but it doesn't make sense for Letho since you also just banished your opponents units from the game.

Played to level 5. winning more than losing and I'm not as frustrated with it as I thought I would. I am getting overwhelmed by some custom decks already so I need to build one quick.

Not sure of the unit name (northern) but I realized the strat of using the DUN BANNER HEAVY CAVALRY to pull the armor off two of my own REDANIAN ELITES and boost them both. I won several games just doing that and then boost them with a potion. It's a great base to build on.

Is there a reason right clicking on graveyard isn't working atm?

edit:
I cut the combat engineers from my nilf deck and now I don't have to worry about getting that engineer in rounds 1 + 2 to prevent it from showing up in round 3. In it's place I put in vicovaro medics, which revive a bronze card. These are actually really good. Even if your opponent has no bronze cards of their own, they'll probably have your spies! So it's like another safeguard against not getting spy refill. Along with rainfam i think my deck's consistency has improved a lot.

I will probably craft cantarella, but now I am wondering how good the card actually is. http://gwentify.com/cards/cantarella/ Mainly because it cannot be triggered with vicovaro novice.

edit2:
Apparently cantarella summoned by rainfarn is the goodness, so yeah I can see this card making it's way into my deck easily.

Or generally during whenever phase of the game. When your opponent is selecting cards, you can't do anything.

Yea this is one of my biggest complaints. Can't see anything while I choose or after I choose.

Also need to see either graveyards between rounds and mullligans

The board should act the same during mulligan as it does during the round. I agree completely. I also want them to remove that black screen whenever you're waiting on your opponent to mulligan.

I played about 800 matches in Closed Beta and I was dead on 50/50. lol

Just had the most insane game against Nilfgaard. Dude completely fucked me in the second round and I was full blown fucked on cards, but I somehow managed to come out on top in the end.

Not sure if just supremely unlucky, or if there's some sort of attack that forces opponents to drop their connection. I got a forced loss as a result of a D/C mere seconds away from the game auto-passing on my turn to give me the win in a ranked game.
