Had Cyberpunk 2077 been Next Gen Exclusive, would it had turned out better?

How big of an impact would it have been if cdpr had only made it for PS5, Xbox and PC. Was developing for last gen the only factor or just a big chunk?

Don't know. The hype for me was too much only to end up disappointed by a very basic game. Except at night, it looked really cool at night in certain areas.

Nah

Even on PC, it lacks tons of features and feel hollow due to poor management

I spent more than 90 hours with the game, enjoyed it a lot, but graphics is the least of its problems

Most of the negativity comes from console gamers but it would still need all the patches on the new consoles, but yeah it's a great game on PC so it would've been better if it was only on XSX/PS5. I don't think they'll ever be able to fix the last gen versions to where people want them.

I believe it would have avoided the controversy and public lambasting, yet still would have been the most disappointing game of the year and a chink in the developer's armor.

I will say maybe if the game didn't come in so scorching hot and have to spend the entire next year being fixed with patches galore that maybe they would have been hard at work on adding more and more content with expansions and free dlc to give it more depth like witcher.

It's kind of stuck in perpetual alpha at the moment due to them releasing it broken on last gen consoles

Would be a little better but the glitches and bad AI will be the same even if were released on PS7 by 2032.

Is broken from its roots...that is why the next gen patch was moved to 2022 , they know a patch just improving visuals wont fix the core problems.

Honestly its not the technical issues that hold this game back, though they were the icing on the cake.
Its all of the abscent or extremely paired back gameplay systems that really do it for me. No amount of technical polish can make up for wafer thin gameplay and RPG elements. RINO(RPG IN NAME ONLY)

the biggest issue i had with the game is the AI, not sure how next gen is going to help that

Yes. They were too greedy and it bit them in the ass. The game was fine for me on PC from day one. Would have been the same for PS5 and Series S/X

PC here as well, only one quest bugged on me but the game design itself was basic, story was mediocre and I was left wondering if that was it in the end.

Maybe they'll have a free expansion like Blood and Wine where it'll be amazing but as of now it was probably a 6/10 for me. Still finished it and hope they can improve in the next outing.

It probably would have been an okay game if it was released this November for PC and next gen only.

I'm content with the performance on One X.
I just don't find it to be very fun to play.
I don't think more hardware power would fix that.

Completely agree. I mean I absolutely burst out laughing the first time I did something illegal and ran into a building to hide and BOOP all the sudden I'm surrounded by teleporter cops. It was like I was back in 2010 gaming all over again!

Probably would've faired better, but there were some fundamental design changes and too many cuts to the overall vision in the end.

CDPR pivoting from a full-on RPG to a more action-focused, open-world design was by far the biggest issue for me.

It certainly would have been a better game, I got the impression that they had to cut back on their vision in order to get the game to run on last gen consoles which was in vain

They developed & advertised it for PS4/XB1, they had 8 years to do it, but they just couldn't get it done. Only reason it works better on PS5/XSX is they have more power to brute force their shitty code. IMO they are great designers and shitty developers. This from a sci-fi fan who was really looking forward to Cyberpunk PS4.

Pretty sure much of the game's systems had to be dialed back due to having to run on last gen. Next gen only probably would have been deeper.

First impressions would have been A LOT better of course but the game just feels empty and hollow after a while so I doubt its reputation would be a lot better by now.

Yes.
I think it probably wouldn't have live up to the hype, but it would have been better.
I think focusing on last gen affected more than just the graphics, wouldn't be surprised if even getting it to be playable on ps4/Xb1 forced them to waste a ton of time and resources as well as cutting on back on features.

Probably, but it wouldn't have sold 10 million copies in such a short period of time. PS4 and One S are more than 150 million potential consumers. Even Sony and MS don't seem to be willing to give up those potential profits anytime soon, why would CDPR? 🤷‍♂️

If they didn't have to scale it back so much for last gen systems it probably would have been able to handle more features.

Yes, cause then they would've been able to actually focus their manpower towards finishing a lot of the features that ended up on the cutting floor. I honestly don't know why CDPR thought that they would be able to run CP on last gen after struggling to get witcher 3 to run smoothly.
I know, it was money duh.

Why would it? Many of us played Cyberpunk on PCs that were beefier then than PS5s are now. Hardware wasn't the issue whatsoever. I played 50 hours of Cyberpunk and it was in my top 5 that year - because of the story, world and characters. Most other individual parts of that game range from average to bad and slightly better consoles can't fix that. Shit, modders were fixing gameplay issues in the first week that CDPR simply didn't bother with.

That's the crux of the issue for most I think. Game was way over-hyped for far too long before release. By the time it released, players had too strong of a vision of what the game was, caused both by CPR PR and by their own imaginations and were disappointed when the game didn't match what they were thinking. In a perfect world all games are announced no more than 6 months to a year before they release, IMO.

It was good on PC but without the patches and mods it would still have issues worthy of some complaints. A 2021 release on only PC and PS5/XSX would've changed so much.

It's possible. It sounds like they spent a lot of time trying to get their demanding game running on old hardware. That time could have been spent elsewhere.

They probably would have avoided the enormous embarrassment and financial implications of their game getting pulled from PlayStation platforms and having to offer refunds at retail, PC, and Xbox if it weren't for the botched up last gen versions. I played on XSX and while not a masterpiece, I enjoyed it almost as much as anything else released this last year.

They Should have
- Skipped last gen
- saved the last gen patches and QA work and threw it into other fixes and current gen improvements.
- Delay release to this year

they would have delayed revenue but saved their reputation and brand somewhat.

maybe but they probably wouldn't have made nearly as much money off PC/Consoles and that's what it's all about. I think there were still some flawed gameplay systems that just being on next gen wouldn't have salvaged.

I doubt they were even focused on last-gen until the last minute, hence the poor launch state. They were too busy trying to figure out the game's direction

I think a lot of resources went to making the games run on PS4 and old XBox (neither of which turned out well anyway) and those resources could've been better spent elsewhere.

This. The game looks incredible on PC. All they had to do was focus on porting that version to next gen consoles.

Releasing on current gen only would've avoided a lot controversy but it would still be a massive disappointment.

I always thought it needed an extra year in the oven, but now I've thought about it, it actually needs another 2 or 3 years, plus a robust recruitment drive of experienced programmers to fix the ai amongst other things.
