Halo 2 Live is being ruined by the retarded players.

StoOgE

First tragedy, then farce.
I swear to God, the retards I am forced to play with at times amaze me.

I was playing the bomb run mode (where one team is on offense, the other on defense) and couldnt help but notice my entire team (offense) was perched on the sea wall with sniper rifles. I was the only one even trying to do anything. I was being destroyed when I entered the base. On my next attempt I managed to grab the active cammo and snuck into their base and planted the bomb. they never fired at me. Let me say this again for emphasis. They all sat there staring right at me and never fired once. The damn game tells you someone is arming the bomb, active cammo is not that invisible, and they never even tried to do anything. Way to go morons.

I have had several games of the bomb run (where either team can score at any given time) where a team will walk into our base, their bomb runner will be killed but then the remaining members of their team proceed to clean house.. but they will never pick up the bomb and score.

This isnt just limited to random idiots, I have played in some of our clan matches where general stupidity ruled the day. When there is only 10 seconds left, dont run around the outside of the base with the warthog shooting things.. get the FUCKING FLAG so you will go into overtime. If you are driving the warthog, YOU SHOULDNT BE THE FLAG RUNNER. Make the gunner or the passenger do it. Someone needs to be driving the warthog to ensure it isnt stolen by the other team. Plus, someone has to drive, and the added time of someone moving to driver once you do get out of their with the flag could be the difference between death and success.

Much like Counter Strike on XBL the actual game is fine, but the level of ineptitude on Xbox Live seems to be rampant and systemic. I have been in alot of fun games, but have been in far more where complete idiocy ruins the experience. Also, I had a small clan match the other day where our team had 12 kills on team deathmatch. I had 9 of them. one player had 2, one had a kill, the other never killed anyone. I wont name names, but how the fuck do you go an entire 10 minute round without killing anyone? Somone should have aimlessley wandered into your line of fire at least once by then.. its like you set out to fail as miserably as possible and succeed beyond any measure of incompetency. The law of averages jaw was agape at the results of that "achievement".

But I guess it doesnt matter, like crack, no matter how bad the stuff is I get I find myself returning to the same dealer, unable to break the chain that compells me to become a level 10.

I feel this way about almost all Xbox Live games. It's really cool when you're playing with decent folks, but the general public is really reall hit or miss. That's why I only play with GAF folk :/

I stopped reading there and laughed before continuing.

It sounds just like Battlefield. Or Unreal. Or many many other online FPS games.

Same. I really like Xbox Live too, and try to stick to people on my friends list, but no one else I knows play some of my games anymore (PSO, MM3, Counter Strike) that I still play on occasion.

In defense of the retards, alot of people dont understand the different game types and think everything is a simple deathmatch type game. In these types of situations I usually try to help by explaining the game type/goals a little.

I've had the same problem a few times. Last time I played one flag CTF at Zanzibar, my team would just stand there at the beach with sniper rifles "defending our base" even when we were on offense......

Hey, I still have MM3! Make sure I'm on your Friend's List (IcedPez).

Just shoot me a message if you want to play sometime.

I've had some bad runs on some modes, and I've been part of the bad run a few times.

I'm still unsure of how to pick up the boms/arm the bomb so I usually stick to trying to wipe out the enemy while a team member gets all of that done.

I have a similiar thing with CTF. I could've sworn that in Halo you just ran over the flag and it automatically picked it up. I think you have to press a button to pick it up now, but to be honest I'm not sure, so I just stick to the offensive while one of my team members gets the flag.

It's because of this that I usually stick to Slayer.
Oh, and I really enjoy Eyeball as well, but I've only played that once.

Since I only play with people I know, I can't really complain about my teammates, but I've been bitching about the proximity chat since it started....It's just annoying as fuck. Having to listen to the other team is, IMO, the game's biggest flaw. So many fucking little douchebags screaming in my ear, it's just crazy.

You hold down X to pick up objects (flags/bombs). Arming the bomb is accomplished by standing within the circle for a set amount of time.

Sometimes, on defense, you can't pick up your flag once your opponents get ahold of it, even if they drop it. The same goes for the bomb.

What happens there is if no one "contests" it (aka, touches it, I believe) within a set amount of time it'll reset to the default position.

I'm much more tired of people I don't know barking fucking orders at me. I usually just stop where I am and shoot them. I think the problem that you are having is that you are still in the lower levels. Once you start climbing up it should get a little better.

Oh and BTW if your name has "420" in it..you’re a total fucking loser. In fact 90% of the people who play online games at all are worthless wastes of space. It's shocking to hear the mushed mouthed knuckle dragging dregs try to form coherent sentences.

I played with strangers for the first time yesterday and it was no fun at all. There was this mexican who kept whining about how he wasn't doing a good game. He was irritating.

If it wasn't for "retards" there wouldn't be a need for wars or homeland security or seatbelt laws or drunk driving laws, etc.

It's life.. deal with it or do something else.

I haven't played it in a week or so but my last few games were terrible. I don't mind trash talking and jokes here and there but at least have SOME dignity. The last time I played two players were going on about niggers and gays, and that was not the first time it happened in Halo 2. I also can't stand playing solo oddball and having morons kill me as I try chasing the guy with the oddball because they think it's slayer. AWFUL...

I love GA games even though I've only played in maybe 10.

Any idea why? I've had this happen to me several times, and I don't get it. It's the main reason why I'm so timid about the whole CTF mode.

You have to hold X to pick up the bomb and the flag, to arm the bomb simply stand on the bomb spot.

Ive had other things go wrong too..

when arming the bomb, Ive had a teammate come up and knock me off of the spot with a ghost. way to go moron.

once I got the flag on 1 flag CTF but our 'base' was overrun with a jeep and 2 ghosts and our team was getting slaughtered. I managed to hide in a remote part of the seawall and no one knew where it was but my teamates. The plan was to hide out there until the warthog was destroyed then I would make the flag run (it was on touch the flag and return it setting). One of my jackass teamates got tired of waiting, so he killed me with the sword, grabbed the flag and proceeded to march into the middle of our occupied base. He died, and after the match explained to me that I needed to take the flag to our base to score. THANKS JACKASS. I knew that, but I thought the 'to score' part was more important than the 'take the flag to our base' part.

Well, with this new knowledge I have, maybe I'll go from being an aggressor into being a flag runner.

I thought we had a pretty good time the other day when you were on my team, StoOgE. We owned in the bomb run where I drove the warthog right up to the bomb circle.

its the game mode. Sometimes the flag sits there for a period of time and is returned automatically.. its just the options selected...

I usually just do an optimatch, so I can't really fine tune the game mode. I'll pick Big Team Battle or something, and that's as much selection as I do.

It's because there are different modes of CTF you can put it on.

In the quick options menu you can change the flag return mode to NO, and basically you have to defend your flag (after an enemy drop) in the location of a drop for 30 seconds. This type is fucking retarded because if a person from each team gets the flag and takes it to their base, it is impossible to get it back in order to cap it. There is no way in hell you can defend against 6 people for 30 seconds when they respawn right next to the flag.

Classic CTF where flag return is on (meaning you run over the dropped flag and it puts it back at the base should be the ONLY way CTF is played. Takes the most stratagy and skill. There is a reason this style has been played since the Threewave Quake 1 CTF days......

I'm sure the problem will go away when you climb up in rank. From what I know from my own experience (played Halo 1 only single player), initially you start by just trying to stay alive. Then, you start trying to get the enemies killed. Once you can do that, you can start to try and understand and memorize the levels so that you can help your more skilled teammates to get the objectives done. Finally, you can focus on doing the objectives yourself.

I'm a newbie, currently at level 6, so I'm barely past the staying alive part. I know it will be still some time until I really manage to do the real objectives. Sure, every now and then I get a lucky flag, but I'm not there yet.

While learning, I do the matches against random people - I don't want to irritate the players I know and the chances of going against the same layer randomly is slim.

In two weeks with 2-3 h / night I should be there.

well in theory you should level up and get past the point where you can get matched with any newbie retards pretty quickly.

So its a hell of a lot better than other live game where you have no way of knowing who's gonna stink.

the ranking system sucks for people like me that are decent to above average but dont have 8 hours a night to play the game... Ive only logged a handfull of 'ranked' matches, but usually wipe the floor with them when I do, but Im still stuck at very low levels.

Your stats say you've only played 3 non-clan ranked team matches, it only takes 5-10 (or 15 if you suck at rumble pit like me :lol) games in any one discipline to get above level 5 and away from a lot of the major problems.

Normally if Im not playing a clan match of some sort Ive got a friend over playing as a guest, so I dont get alot of match play in... it sucks they dont go off your ranking for those matches as well, because even if Im ranked 20 billion I will likely get paired with morons.

In defense of the retards, alot of people dont understand the different game types and think everything is a simple deathmatch type game.

How hard can it be though? There's a bomb there, what the fuck do you think you're supposed to do with it?Lets stay on the beach and play volleyball with it ladies!

The only time I've been annoyed on Halo 2 so far was this dude trying to be frontin' all gangsta slim-shady crap the other night...that tool of an idiot quickly killed the mood and everyone took off after a match or two.

Seriously, if you DONT KNOW how to play a gamemode, set up a lan match and simply start it without anyone else ready.. you can run around and check out the map as well as the gamemode.

Yea, it's a setting in the Quick Options menu. It's usually active in 1 Flag CTF.

I always end up playing custom games with people on my list. Lately it's constantly full of Halo people. But I wanted to increase my level so I jumped in a ranked game the other night...a Slayer, everyone for themselves type game. The last 2 minutes or so...everyone was fucking hiding! Luckily, being new I still knew were some of the sniping type positions were on this map so I went around and hit them. Still, that's going to be a frustrating way of building up a little. I don't want to play many ranked team games until I'll match up with better players.

Halo 2 does have an awful lot of gametypes that it cycles through. So even if someone has been playing for a few hours, they may have never seen a certain gametype before. Also, the game doesn't make it immediately obvious whether you're on offense or defense. The announcer says it fairly quickly and if you missed it and don't know the map, it can be a bit confusing.

Noobs will be noobs, and there's thousands of them on Live. Just play a few more ranked games and you'll get past most of them.

Every game on the internet is in this exact same situation. I've played 250 games on Live, and I just stock my team with Friends. The experience after that is perfect. You either thrash the opposing team of morons or encounter another well coordinated team and everyone is challenged.

hahahaha

man i love halo 2, i don't do a damn thing except sit up and snipe, telling others to do it as well.

we normally just chat away like "hahaha dude just got owned in the base, what a dork"

i feel bad for that lone guy.

Playlist update coming (sticky @ bungie.net forums):

Before we take off for Thanksgiving vacation, I wanted to give everyone a quick heads up about the status of our first Xbox Live Matchmaking Playlist update. We've been watching closely and listening to all of the feedback you've been sharing with us. I'm happy to say that we've made some significant updates to the existing playlists as well as creating two brand new playlists.

Overhauling every playlist and creating two new ones is a major task and is not something to be taken lightly. Our primary goal is to ensure that the release gets adequate testing before we unleash it to the world. With this being our first post-release playlist change, we are taking extra precautions to make sure everything works as planned. Pushing out the new playlists before Thanksgiving would have been ideal, but the risks of cutting our testing time are too great.

For now, we ask that you please be patient with us and hold on for a just a little while longer. We are optimistic that our playlist updates will be ready to release shortly after the Thanksgiving break.

Here's a little glimpse of what's coming (subject to change)-

All team slayer playlist - You wanted it.You've got it. All team slayer, all the time. (perhaps this week will be a good time to get your last great games of CTF in as it seems the vast majority of players will abandon these objective games once and for all when given the chance. -sniff- ) The existing Tam Skirmish playlist will be only objective games - primarily CTF and Assault with a small sprinkling of Team Ball, Team King and Territories.

Unranked FFA playlist - play Slayer and a few other Rumble Pit games with guests and parties of up to 8. Let the good times roll.

Major Clan Match- party size limit changed from minimum 5 to max 8. Also, the team imbalance has been changed to one from two. (so no more 6 vs. 8 games)

Big Team Battle - we've upped the max party size to a full 8.

Variety - we've gone through and adjusted the weighting and offerings in every playlist to make sure more maps and more gametypes get some loving. Foundation has also been added to the playlists where it makes sense.

We'll have much more to say about this as soon as the release is ready to go. In the meantime, thanks for your feedback and have a great Thanksgiving break. We'll see you online!

I think I was in that match with you, are you talking about Saturday afternoon? I'm sorry, I'm just not very good yet. We did win that one CTF on Zanzibar though.

Maybe you had more assists than kills?

the funniest thing i ever saw happen was this one game on headlong... it was an assault game, and we were on offense... match starts, everyone hops in a warthog etc and hauls ass... we get over to the other base, and are all ready to assault, and then someone says... "who has the bomb?"

My voice...I don't use any software or voice filters if that's what you mean.

Whenever someone's acting like an idiot on LIVE i bust out a little Arnold to keep em in check. I had someone actually thinkin it was the real Arnold yelling at them for disrespecting the governor of California.
