Halo 2 Live is being ruined by the retarded players.

That shit just happened to me a second ago.

You'll learn that in the online gaming arena you want to play with a core set of gamers you know won't fuck around and mess up online matches.

You guys need to play more games with Halo 2 FANS. People like me. The GA crew is fine and all, but most of you guys don't play nearly as much as you talk. There's a few here and there who are on, but the ones I had on my friends list are mostly deleted because they were never on.

My clan plays every night from like 8 or 9 Central into the wee morning hours. We have steep competition no matter where we go and we RARELY walk all over another team. The only problems we've run into have been minor. Snobs, racists, dumbfucks, etc. But never anyone that wasn't out to beat us and inflate their rank. Look us up sometime. The clan name is "Team Nova" and my handle is the same as my GA name.

Playlist update coming (sticky @ bungie.net forums):

wow cool!

I really hate the idiots who get on the mic and just scream, sing, or spew bullshit the whole time. luckily that only happens when Im playing ranked games and I only have to put up with it for one game then I usually never hear from them again. if Im in a custom game and it looks like the party is going to stay together for a while I will mute the guy thats being an ass.

Live really has been well thought out and I think Halo is one of the top 3 games utilizing it. it sucks to run into people who just want to annoy everyone else but at least there are ways to deal with them.

what you have to understand about playing against the random masses is that some of them are playing a FPS online against other people for the first time in their lives. some people are playing Halo multiplayer for the first time ever and some people are playing a game, any game, online for the first time ever. there are so many different learning curves that a lot of people are having to overcome on Halo that youre bound to run into what seem to be retards for a long while. like someone said earlier, leveling up will get you out of the vast majority of those people but playing custom games still leaves that open to chance. heck I still have to tell my brother and cousins how to do some of the stuff because if its different from the original in any way at all they are totally lost. they were telling me my controllers were screwed up but they just werent holding the button down long enough.

I like most of the rules that are default in the game modes like CTF and assault. I used to hate getting on XBC and playing the original Halo because you never knew what the settings where and hosts never told you. most of them used standard setting but every now and then you didnt know what was going on until it was too late.

aside from a few issues I have with some of the maps I really feel like this game is perfect online. its pretty much everything I was hoping it was going to be gameplay wise, and much more than I thought the community and rankings wise.

I will say this... Halo 2 is a lot less ruined than Pandora Tomorrow or Rainbow Six was for me.

Team games take time. You jump in alone and through playing a few games you see if you can recruit three others who know what they're doing to continue on in a party. That's the way the Team game playlists are fun, and you can often jump in levels pretty quickly doing it that way. In no time you'll be to the point where you're playing with people who know what they're doing.

Some people, regardless of defense/offense, just find the nearest vehicle and take off. Being on Headlong on Defense, and hearing the banshee and both ghosts take off boosting within 5 seconds makes me want to crush skulls.

I love when I'm playing CTF on Coagulation and I'm carrying the enemy flag, and 7 of my teammates don't seem at all interested in giving me covering fire or even have the slightest clue where I'm at, yet somehow I still manage to score a capture, because the opposing team is just as clueless.

Oh, and this thread calls for a:

Yup. The biggest problem with team based games is that in random games everyone plays them like Slayer.

"OMFG, I got 55 kills that game! I PWNED ALL!"

"55 kills? That's nice. Do you also realize your team lost in CTF 3 to 0?"

This happend to me and my friends last night, lol :lol

I love it when I'm playing a Rumble Pit Oddball game, and I don't have the ball...and I'm nowhere *near* the person who has it, but the guy behind me still shoots me anyway.

What's the point? The point of Oddball is to get the ball, not to kill as many players as possible. Why are you shooting me? I don't have the $(*&@ %(^ ball! Stop it! Shooting me is not getting you the ball aannnnny faster.

I only ever really enjoy Halo 2 online when my entire team is composed of people I know won't dick me over, meaning people on my friends list. I guess I'm a minority in that I prefer an objective based game than a slayer match. More than a slayer match the retard factor weighs heavily here.

I can't count the times I've run up to an elevated part of the map overlooking the enemy base and issued a statement like "Just let me know where you want me to cover you" or "Just call down the shot" only to get silence in return. Also I'm not sure how many people realize the difference between just talking and using the radio option.

I'm not getting nearly as much playing time on Halo 2 as I'd initially thought, mainly because now, my doing so depends on if I have enough friends online to form a party/team.

Also I'm not sure how many people realize the difference between just talking and using the radio option.

I know I don't... what's the difference between using the white button and just talking? And when you use the white button do you have to turn it on and off, or does it just auto-off?

Playing with GA people doesn't completely eliminate the retardation. People treat Oddball like a DM game (at least the few rounds I played), and king of the hill with a hill that doesn't move or has a timer set way too damn long.

I play Big Team Battle almost exclusively, and I'd say the balance for me is running 70/30 with regards to smart players and the short bus.

There's nothing more enjoyable than a back and forth CTF match that ends 1-0 or tied, because both sides have players that are skilled at protecting the flag and reconning various hotspots (the building with the sword in it on headlong, the stony hills in waterworks, etc). It's awesome to work together on offense to gradually get the flag out of a base, into the middle, and then contest it long so that it's close enough to home base that anyone respawning can grab it or protect the carrier.

And then, sometimes, I end up riding along with Louise into a pit, or on a team where all of my teammates leave the base unprotected to go who knows where. What I'd like to know is, what's the gene that makes certain players hop into a banshee and just fly in circles the entire game? Fools. Then again, it's fun to leap off a ledge toward a banshee and take it, and hear some noob say "what the fu**" into the mic. Also have to mention the random lamer who thinks it's funny to kill his own teammates. Yeah, real nice... go play death match, Jr. That's about right too--because most idiot players sound like ten year olds over the mic.

Thankfully, I've played many more good games than bad ones. I'm quite addicted to Halo 2 multi--even if it is basically Unreal Tournament or Battlefield rehashed for Xbox. Fine by me.... there's 60,000 people on at any given moment. Never tough to fill up a 16-player game.

If you're talking about last nites' game, then I apologize. I'm still getting the hang of things, I was never a big PC gamer

I think for the GAF people we should make a guide on how to play each game type, and the different roles that a person can play and how to play them effectively. That should fix about 50% of the bad GAF players which should help some thing.

Wha???

The last time I played Halo 2 online was probably on Saturday.

Hey there, Counterstrike invented online idiocy when XBL was just a twinkle in Microsoft's eye. At least people on XBL can't cheat.

This is pretty basic critical knowledge: pass it along to your friends. When you talk, people who are physically near you hear you through the TV speakers (and with surround sound, hear where you are even). When you click the white button, you hear a short radio static, then you talk and everyone on your team hears you through their headset (plus enemy people who are physically close to you hear you through their TV speakers). When you stop talking, you hear another short radio static and the channel closes.

Im having the same problem with Ghost recon 2. The game is awesome but going online you have a 50% chance of playing with retards who just run down in the open get shot and accuse ppl of cheating.

Not many GA ppl are playing this game so i dont have them to fall back on when i search for games :(

it's explained in the manual.

anyway, if you just talk into the mic with no button pressing, only the people within range will hear your voice coming through their television speakers, no matter what team they're on.

once you tap the white button, you'll hear a tiny burst of static in your headset, signifying that you're on a team channel. anything you then say will be heard by your team, no matter where they are in the map. they'll hear your voice in their headset, not their television speakers. the game senses when you stop speaking, and you'll be able to hear the teamspeak cutoff by another static burst from your headset.

another thing, if the other team is within range, they'll be able to hear you through their television speakers, even if you're using teamspeak, so be careful when sneaking around near the enemy base.

edit: dammit chris, you beat me to it.

lets see. i was playing a game of capture the flag and some dipshits kept arguing about opening the gate..

"open the gate!"

"why.. we'll let them in!"

"opne the gate!! ROFL ! its like reverse psychology!"

"DONT OPEN THE GATE!"

"OPEN THE GATE"

they wouldnt shut up until one of them finally opened the gate.

we lost horribly of course.

then you have the 1 on 1 battles, where if the other guy is in the lead he tries to hide from you the whole game.

one guy grabbed the banshee and flew to a place you could only access with the machine.. i finally notice the banshee perched behind the roof of one of the buildings.. but it was too late by then.. and the game was over.

seriously.. whats the fun in that?

:/

well, with this newfound knowledge, I started kicking lots of ass in team skirmish.

I just stopped playing for a bit though, because the CTF team I was on pulled the 'everybody become a sniper' move, which left me trying to capture the flag with a base full on enemies on Zanzibar.

Anyone want to hop on? I'm in the mood for a few minor clanmatches

I haven't found H2 to be bad at all on line. Only fools I find are in the training ground were I am playing with guests, so I just use that to fuck around and find things/try new stuff etc. The ranking thing really helps do away with the dickheads. My biggest peeve is head to head now, which turns into a "who can grab the sword and hide the fastest" match.

Seriously I deliberately lost to a guy on lockout because he got the sword and hid on the ledge behind the sniper rifle tower, I knew where he was but knew I would never get there to kill him because all he has to do is drop off and land on my head. So I thought fuck it and tried anyway. I ended up losing 3 or 4 nil due to him doing only that the whole game, I even threw myself off the stage by accident, managed to get back to an even zero though. I don't really play head to head anymore.

Im having a blast online, only thing though the games don't last to long. I would love to play 'homemade' games with people that last longer than 2 minutes then find a new game with new people. Problem is my friends list is small... don't know enough real life people that play Halo 2 or have a xbox. Is there a clan that plays alot that I can join? I'm rated at 6-8 (depends on the game type).
If so shoot me a invite at 'Smack Fu Master'

Grenades are your friend in Head-To-Head. If someone's camping then you can flush them out with grenades pretty easily. And part of the game is hide-and-seek, that's what makes it intense and makes the beginning game so crucial. You've just gotta be persistent and creative in how to find and take the guy down. Ya sometimes the guy will get away, but so be it, it's just 8-minutes out of your life.

Yeah I get it and knew where the guy was the entire game, I actually walked the entire level, picked up every grenade and tossed them over there, but on lockout the ledge is situated so that you can't acutally hit them with a grenade at all.

I guess I just don't like the mode very much, crouch walking kind of hurts my thumb as well.....

can i mute players in game? because i've had several games already where one person just goes "whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo" for the entire 6 minutes of a rumble pit match.

the only games i can stand are just straight slayer games because otherwise it gets too retarded.

playing with the clan rules. I used to think clans were shit, but the way H2 implemented them is kickass. Can almost always find at least one person to go hit team skirmish.

Up for some ranked tonight sembe?

Hell yeah! We're kicking ass last night (what was it? 11-0..ha). To bad they're non-ranked games. I'll be on tonight.

btw...my exprience with halo 2 online has been great! mainly cause I play with you dudes.

Did you ever consider giving up the sniper role and getting that flag\bomb yourself? This isn't the TMC dorms with Sean "Halo Do-Rag" Whateverhislastnamewas anymore, now we have time limits.

Get in there and put some shotguns in faces, get some results. If you don't actively help the flag\bomb move, then you can't complain when you lose experience. Save the sniping for when you're on defense.

Go Scorpians!

well, I try not to act stupid, but since I share my name with another individual, I almost feel a responsibility to. Especially after having some people ask me if I was still dying :/

i hate people who think they're guarding the flag because they're in the base in zanzibar. GET NEXT TO THE FUCKING FLAG DAMMIT.

Maybe you had more assists than kills?

While my kill ratio results generally end up slightly less than the mean for that game, I don't think I qualify as a "retard." I understand the objectives of each game and have a working knowledge of most of the maps now.

I'll be the first to admit my FPS controller skills are not so great, and if I'm ever in a party of people who think that I'm holding you back with my lack of skills don't hesitate to ask me to leave. I won't be offended. If I were really good and took it seriously I would be annoyed as well if someone wasn't pulling their weight.

no I'm not that Lonestar!

typing this on my wireless pda, can't get my pc to show pages normally. DAMN THE PATRIOTS!!!

The thing that bothers me the most is when people quit right at the start of the match. A lot of times it's a nice 8 on 8 match and then 2 or 3 people quit in the beginning and your team is pretty much screwed.

Another thing that is annoying is when you are the only person doing the objective (ie trying to get the flag or plant the bomb).

I have been in good games for the most part though.

i agree though. unless you're playing with friends who you can rely on the ranked games are fucking bullshit. too many fucking morons. fucking idiots. god dammit.

"Anybody who likes Jack Bauer is a'ight in my book"

Going through Bauer DT right now. January is TOOO far from now :|

And I think I have discovered the answer to the MYSTERY OF THE WIRELESS ROUTER!

I just got done playing a CTF game with people going "can you hear me?" the whole time.

Then there's a kid that sounds 12 saying "guys, somebody has to protect the flag!!!" while he's nowhere in sight, and I'm standing in front of the flag.

Glorious day. After the match, a guy was going "how is it that some of you play as the monsters?"

I was like that before i knew all the gametypes. I would ask what our objective is and no one felt like answering. If you can't take 3-4 sentences and 15 seconds out of your time to explain something to your "teammates" so you can work as a "team", then don't expect to win (not directed towards anyone).

Oh, and once you get to higher levels, people should all know how to play i'm assuming?
