Halo 2 Update Available Now

Just updated and messed around a bit with a system link two player test.

Most weapons will now kill with three hits (that's with full shields. It used to be like six.) The brute shot now only needs two hits to kill. A jumping melee counts as two hits, so if you jump and melee a guy with an SMG or the like you only need one more to finish.

The auto aim thing I haven't investigated with a moving target. I was just more concerned about the melee tweaks. The grenade damage is seriously beefed up though. I think the plasma is a bit too powerful now, but that's just me.

It's good to see the return of the plasma rifle charge though, drop the shields and a crack on the head is pretty much guaranteed killing, provided they don't drop a grenade as their last hoorah.

...If you have two systems readily available to you can't you test what I asked out earlier in the thread?
 
Ahh, my best friend finally got an Xbox and Live, I told him to get Halo 2 (we played GGX2#R against each other like all Friday night) so he can play with a bunch of my friends from school and I. Melees and plasma grenades (and vehicles) are probably my 3 favorite things about Halo as compared with other FPS... So this sounds awesome.

Yay, duel weilding was my major problem with Halo 2. Perhaps I'll like Halo 2 deathmatch over Halo 1 now ( that's right, I only play split screen... oh crap, that means no update :( ).
 
I dunno, the Banshee felt more responsive, slightly tighter than before. I dont know if its a reflection of me not playing in over 2 months or the actual update.

Anyway, plama pistol/Battle rifle still running rampant. Wont be playing until they update the playlist or when they release the new maps. Really tired of coagulation, burial mounds and colososus. Crap weapons

Its on the bottom right of your screen if that helps, it's possible I guess for it to be cut off by your TVs overscan (in which case your TV has huge overscan problems).
 
I dunno if it was just bad games or what,but me,dude,trasher, and bennett beat 2 teams very badly who had 22s and 21s for their level.Perhaps we will know who cheated now :lol

I don't like how the stats are gonna be reset again soon, gonna have to spend hours just to pad my ranking :(
 
can anyone else confirm the flag bounce is still in?

not that i dont beleive the guy saying it is 100% in, but maybe those matches werent with everyone patched...

just seems odd that one thing that has been mentioned several times by bungie as fixed, isnt.
 
I can't wait to lose my 16 ranking as it is completely worthless anyway. I've been begging for a stats wipe for months and Bungie is thankfully answering my prayers. Now Team Jesus can get to the 30s. :D

It's not a ranking like that. The level you're assigned is entirely there in order to help you matchmake with people of similar skill. Now that people who were artificially inflated can no longer cheat, it only makes sense to reset it. And then everyone should rise to their appropriately ranked positions after a couple play sessions.

That's naive, a rank = status in the H2 community, like it or not, bungies intention or not. People that legitimately are say a level 25 (shit anyone about a 17 that can hang there with a lot of plays over time) are pretty good. It's going to annoy some people, but everyone will get back to where they really belong.

Apparently the ranks are going to move faster now as well, I think that means both up and down.... Still, no more getting bummed by the red team wins ties!

The rank means as much as you want it to. Some care, some don't. I think caring about your rank is pretty inane - it's there to ensure there's a good match. For those who care, there's the Leaderboards. Me, never clicked on'em.

The new grenades rock the world. Just got out of a CRAZY 16-player match in Zanzibar. There were litterally five bodies flying though the air at one point from all the 'nades being tossed on the bomb. Felt just like Halo - and that's a good thing. Didn't get a chance to try the new melee much - too many explosions to see clearly. :lol
 
I'd rather waste a few hours just so the cheaters get pwned and lose thier precious levels they've cheated to get :lol
 
I have to say that is indeed better with this update, the melee and the grenades now have a purpouse like in Halo:CE. less auto-aim specially with the magnum (and I have only played like 30min with this update)

the patch owns, brings great choice to Halo 2..

dual, grenade or melee.. before dual was pretty much better than all

oh and the grenades have GREAT feeling now

Shotty is definately my fav with the upgraded melee. 1 shot melee = kill pretty much everytime.

Awesome. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one with Big-head mode on in Coag.
 
Midship is such a plasma grenade sploogefest now. I played a couple rounds of neutral bomb and everyone was just chucking their whole arsenal of nades all of the place as soon as they spawned. :lol

And they fixed whatever it was that was causing my level in team slayer to not load on the pre-game screen. :)

Wait, do you mean the lack of auto aim is your favorite thing?

I didn't know that the sniper rifle had auto aim.

I'm eager to see how the sniper duels I tend to find myself in much of the time end now that the auto aim is reduced. I just hope it doesn't turn out that I was the one that was always the inferior sniper.
 
I'm not sure how much this balances out the PP BR pussy combo, but I had a ton of kills today with nades. Plasma nades are deadly and if you can get some.........get some right away. I was however still getting sniped by high level players at short range, so I'm not all that convinced that sniping is much harder now. At least you feel like you have a chance in the game now if you aren't able to pick up magnums or PR SMG combo, dual wielding is still important but the emphasis on nades and melee attacks has gone up more. The nades are the biggest difference, I didn't use the new melee ability but a few times to get myself out of a pinch. I like the upgrade.


Did they decrease the tracking on the PP? They should have also given the needler more ability to do damage.

Well I really haven't played Halo 2 all that much because I disliked it, and I tended to stay away from sniping because my friends always bitched when I did it in the first one.

But that would explain a lot why my one friend is constanty camping with a sniper rifle.

As much as I want that combo to be gone,I can't say I don't love it when I'm the only one with it,it kept us in a Collossus match today :lol

I'm assuming you're talking about the single player on Chaos Theory. Because if it's online play you're looking for you might as well stick with Halo 2 (IMO).
 
I was still able to get consistent head shots on people with the snipe today. Didn't really notice any difference...

Catfish, why you still care about rank totally eludes me.

When the leagues that pay for prizes use SMG start + radar for TS, I'm down.
Otherwise, I'm not a fan of MM at all.
Unless no one is on, then it's fine.
But if no one is on, WoW is there.
 
No,not rusty at all,I was pwning people with it today,I was just saying people whiffed on me alot today.Maybe they sucked?But I still didn't really feel like it "stuck" on the target like it did.It's more noticeable when you go for body shots,it really used to stick then,I always go for headshots though and it didn't really stick there like it does on the body...
 
Three Halo 2 topics on the front page. Reminds me of old times. *sniff*

Bungie never mentioned any changes to the snipers - they detailed all of the changes and they were confined to:

*grenades
*melee
*pistol
*plasma rifle/SMG combo

I'd be surprised if they tweaked other stuff without telling anyone.

People have said the BR spread feels tighter now, making it easier to four shot from farther away. Anyone? Stinkles?

No doubt, if you end up with it you can put a world of hurt on people. The update has definitely balanced the game out more. Go bungie!
 
Battle rifle has had a difference between host and client fixed according to a post by Frankie on TXB, and it should be a small difference, but folks seem to be liking it.

Yes, I noticed that I get kills more faster with the battle rifle more faster now :D

:lol I thought my aiming was just worse some of the time. Was there any mention of a same type of issue with the shotgun or is that just more susceptible to lag? In customs somebody is always joking about the "magic shotgun" or "blunt sword" .
