Bullshit

That ****ing pistol ****ing ruined the game. I almost developed anger management problems because of that pistol and my friends obsessive habit of always using it.

Great weapon in campaign, just not MP.

you suck at spawning

I suck at Slayer, period. Objective games FTW.

Wow, we're really getting along now. I agree with this too. I need a reason to kill someone, I guess I'm not the cold blood type.

The point of spawning with the pistol is that it gives you a fighting chance against power weapons. Just spawning with an AR leads to incredible gameplay imbalance.

Spawning with just an SMG in Halo 2 is far worse, though.

Objective games are for people that can't aim, so they're used for distraction purposes. Yeah, I said it.

:p
I'm not going to argue. It's well established that I suck at Slayer. Team objective games feel like co-op to me, not vs., which is why I like'em. I can make up for being a crappy shot in other ways. Slayer? Well...I make a good meat shield.

I think that's why they overhauled the AR for Halo 3. Looks like a perfect spawning weapon.

That was the point. But the gun was so overpowered it made it the best weapon to have in almost every situation. The only time you were ever at a disadvantage was in extreme close quarters vs a player with a SG or RL. Hell, it was a better sniper rifle than the actual sniper rifle.

Hmm.. when did Halo come out? Nov '01 and we're still talking about this stuff? :lol

Pfft.. I'm joking, hence the ":p".

As long as it's not King the Hill (which is always a crapfest) I don't care what the gametype is. As long as there are people and I get to shoot them, I'm happy.

The team aspect of the other modes appeals to me just as much as the Lone Wolf mentality of slayer matches.

I too prefer objective games - extra layer of strategy rather then just killing people.

Plain old death-match is boring IMO. I really don't understand the appeal of the Slayer modes...

I know. I just about fell out of my chair when someone did the Halo 1 > Halo 2 thing on the last page. That's so 2004.

Halo 2 MP >>> Halo 1 MP
Halo 2 SP >>> Halo 1 SP

All of the deployable equipment we've seen so far has many more applications in objective games than Slayer as well, which will only add to the strategy.

Halo MP hasn't aged well. Its very clunky and slow.

Go back and play it sometime with a few friends. Its not as dreamy as it once was.
You are so wrong. If you grew up on Halo 1, Halo 2 sucks. If you grew up with 2, or made the switch (SOLD OUT) for Live, then you might like that better. That's all.

The key for people like me, who enjoy Halo 1 more, might be to treat Halo 3 like a new game rather than the sequel of a sequel to our baby. Otherwise we have all sorts of hangups and complaints that, while they don't objectively interfere with fun, they subjectively subvert (!) our past associations and hopes.

I really don't understand how you can come to the conclusion about the singleplayer, but to each his own, I guess. I agree on the multiplayer though, if just for the fact that it didn't have the pistol (as much as I loved to whore it).

As for Slayer, I must have only played the that playlist like... 3 times. :lol

Trust me I grew up on Halo 1.

I was torn on SP for two years. I took a break of several months on Halo to play other games, then at the start of this year went back to Halo 2 campaign and went through it start to finish. Then did the same for Halo.

I was almost alarmed at my reaction. I debated for two years which was better; probably beat campaign in Halo 1 40-50 times on Legendary.

No need to debate, but suffice it to say, Halo 2 came out waaaay ahead, IMO. Favorite game ever. It's not perfect, but what it does well it does brilliantly. Halo is better in some ways; still go back and play it.

And that's why they removed it for Halo 2. Suddenly, multiplayer wasn't a bitch's game anymore. Anyone of my friends in lan parties using the halo 1 pistol was hated and kicked out of the house without pizza.

i feel pretty much the same way, although NOTHING beats stacking grenades on the beach of silent cartographer and blowing the warthog and/or marines sky high

A) you suck at Halo 1 :(
B) your LAN parties suck at Halo 1 :(

That's why I have them at my house. :lol :lol

But I don't play Halo anymore, mainly because Halo 2 has so much more options. It's excellent.

The only times I play Halo is if there's only four of us and we feel all pistol-y (its a very rare occasion).

Here's my old gamertag, at one point I thought I got pretty good (hey look I have a level on team snipers :lol).

the new gt is Stabby McSter, i'm probably gonna upgrade soon to gold so i can get my halo on hopefully this weekend D:

The first one had the silent cartographer, and some other nice open areas, but there really wasn't much depth. The library and repeat sections really drag, but thankfully the AI was good enough to keep it interesting.

The story in H2 was much better. It was fleshed out, interesting and had some neat little twists. I even liked playing as the Arbiter. Your squadmates were better, you could let them drive, the graphics were better and while it lacked much of the openness of the first one, the combat was more focused, more difficult and the AI better. Add to that the new weapons, the city fighting and the bridge fight, which is awesome.

Overall, H2 is better. Halo 1 was great at the time, but it just doesn't stand as tall anymore (much like Halflife 1).

I'm the other way, here's a boiled down explanation

I enjoy just running around and shooting people. I do not enjoy having to consider what X amount of other people are doing. I just wanna do what I want and not have to worry about anyone who I can't kill affecting that.

I could go deeper I suppose, but I've given this explanation in the Rainbow 6 and Gears thread, so I'm just going to leave it there. It's different strokes for different folks in the end of course, but hopefullly I've helped you understand the appeal of Slayer modes.

Team > FFA

I like Team Slayer games every now and then but objective gametypes are my favorite. It makes your strategy and tactics more important compared to just being a good shot. It also makes games filled with players of vastly different skill levels more fun for everyone, instead of just those not starting at the respawn screen for half the game.

Well, technically we're all "growing up" a little more as time passes. I'm 26 and I could still say I "grew up" on Halo, but I could also say I "grew up" on that damn intellivision......stupid brown hockey players.

I just played through Halo 1 and 2 in the last week on the 360, and I have to say, I really did end up liking Halo 2's experience better. The repeated environments in Halo 1 really are a drag, especially when Halo 2 fixes this problem. On the other hand, Halo 1 had much more "scale" than Halo 2.

Finally some better comparison pictures :)
But this map wasn´t made for public showing so I´ll wait and expect some major overhaul.

It's still a bad comparison because the Halo 2 shots are offscreen.

I suppose if any would know, it's them. They suffer through playing the game every day, to bring us news of how much it sucks. The poor souls.

(Side note: They've already registered halo3sucks.com, apparantly able to see into the future. They didn't register any equivalent site just in case the game doesn't suck, such as halo3rocks.com. Their minds are made up. :lol )

I see a site full of people who will undoubtedly shell out $60 for Halo 3, is what I see.

Yeah they´re offscreen, they give you a general sense though.
btw, what a Heavenly Sword developer had to say about the comparison pics on beyond3d:

Well, actually it's not that obvious, at least to me. One image made me think Halo2 pics where on the right, another one made me think exactly the opposite.
Given the shitty quality of these images probably looking the HUD is the best way to understand which version is which

So was it ever confirmed that the public beta will have a party system in place? (and if so how big can a party be?)

*I know about the 16 player max, I am wondering about the beta.

Look forward to the GAF A team versus GAF B team matches ;)

I can't believe there are some people out there downplaying the comparison shots. You must be ****ing blind to say it's "Halo 2 HD" or only a "slight upgrade". What are you guys on?

If they want an accurate load test, which they do, the party system is going to be there. It's an integral part of Matchmaking.

The Heavenly Sword developer is right. They look similar. Halo 3 fails to impress graphically.

(I know, I know, it's an ALPHA its a BETA its an ALPHABETA I seriously don't care. Unless they have a whole new set of textures, geometry and animation waiting in the wings, Halo 3 won't be the most graphically impressive X360 game of 2007. Shit, it won't even be the most graphically impressive FPS on X360 in 2007. Kind of troubling, imo, considering it's friggen HALO.)

Frankie made a post to the extent of "GAF games can and will happen", alluding to a yet-to-be revealed feature in the Beta. Sounds like it, or something like it, is in.

Actually, he was right when he said:

Probably should have stopped right there.

I didn't find any levels in Halo 2's campaign that were as good as Assault on the Control Room, Silent Cartographer, 343 Guilty Spark, Two Betrayals, and The Maw.

Halo 2's multiplayer experience definitely makes it the better game though, IMO.

Dude, you've played the SP of Halo 3? And you've played all the other hot FPS games of 2007? We want details!

to comment on what others have said on halo 1 mp vs. halo 2 mp, i honestly still like halo 1 mp better, because of the fact that it is slower and "clunkier". halo 2 mp is a riot, but with 16 players on a smaller map i feel a little too fast and out of control. halo 1 mp (at least with me and my circle of friends) was about playing huge maps, games of strategy, of baiting each other out and forcing the other player to make mistakes, rather than just shooting everything that moves in the head. at least for slayer. this is also why i am adamantly against wacky button combinations, which have no place in what i saw as a tactical game. knowing the right situations to use button combinations is a facet of fighting games, and should never really be used in a shooter, especially one that has the potential to be really well balanced.
