Halo 4 Announced (MS Conf, 2012, Start Of New Trilogy)

Seriously, I haven't read books for a long time. But because of HALO, I'm becoming a hardcore book reader that goes to Barnes n Noble constantly for new books.

Also, do we have any clues as to the fate of Cortana and any possible outcomes?

Hoping for a Forrunner technology or somehow the
Precursor
puts her mind into a Human body. For which then Master Chief and Cortana can have some real good.....well let's leave this up to our imaginations.

Do you mean as far as Rampancy is concerned? It's possible to become a theme, but other than that, we have little to nothing to speculate from. She seemed rather stabilized in the H4 teaser and the end of 3, but she was rather "off" in Legends.

Also, I cannot cosign that wish. Sounds like bad fanfiction. Do not want.

unlike their other SB ad? if anything MS marketing for halo is sublime this gen

Halo 3's ad was on Monday Night Football, not the Super Bowl.

MS and Cheap campaign? Remember Halo 3? Halo 4 isn't a spin off like Reach, Anniversary or ODST. They have to show that the Chief is back and I think the Halo 4 marketing won't be cheap.

Yes, I remember Halo 3 not having a Super Bowl commercial, and Reach not being a spinoff.

That was 5 years ago though. Im interested to see how MS treat Halo but a lot has changed! Back then maps where free after a period of time and we were even thrown free maps. Now things like the 3sk Pistol are being tied exclusively to the anniversary map pack, that has made me question the marketing tactics.

You have to read Karen Traviss' short story "Human Weakness". It plays between the ending of Halo 2 and Halo 3 and deals with Cortana's imprisonment by the Gravemind.

lol. The Halo 4 teaser showed really nothing about Cortana. How did you get the impression that she is stabilized?

2012 Super Bowl ads cost $3 million for 30 seconds. Add in MS doing everything on the cheap and yeah, I don't see a SB ad happening.

-Cortana...isn't in the best of places. She's approaching her "best before" date where rampancy, in every other human made AI, is inevitable.

-Her time with the Gravemind was particularly unsettling - she managed to survive a prolonged psychological mind rape, something no other creature the Gravemind encountered has ever done. It's possible, nay likely, she's been emotionally scarred by this.

-Her programming has been confirmed as corrupted going by the Forerunner symbols apparent in her visual matrix. Cortana has been interfacing with systems designed for much more advanced AI's with so much data and information to make the sum of human knowledge feel like a drop in the ocean.

So Cortana is facing a host of issues leading into Halo 4. The Chief might have saved her from the Gravemind and the Flood but she's not out of danger yet.

I'm going to predict that, in either Halo 4 or later, she's going to be in some serious trouble and may be beyond any sort of conventional help.

Her limited lines didn't give away any hint that something was amiss with her psyche or capability. But like you say, it was brief. Nothing much to go on, like I said in the very same post.

I don't know if this is old to you guys but I just found a tweet from a Microsoft worker talking about a vid she saw of HALO 4. She got my hype set to the milky way.

Lidia Pitzalis, PR & Event Xbox 360 & Kinect Manager of Spain writes in her twitter:

"He visto el mejor video de Halo, aun estoy impresionada. Halo 4 va a romper muchos moldes. Que pena que sea confidencial :/ brutal."

Finished Glasslands, and now I am rabidly awaiting the 2nd book in the series. Have there been any indications of the release date? I haven't been able to find anything. Doesn't help that the series is unnamed.

No date has been given on the second post-Halo 3 book from Karin Travis (as far as I know).

The second Forerunner centric Halo: Primordium will release on January 3 2012.

I finished it just last night too. While I enjoyed it, I feel like it did little to move the story forward. [spoilers]There's in-fighting between both the Covenant and humans, Spartan 4's exist, and humans got new slipspace jump technology. I hoped for a little more from the first post-Halo 3 lore we've ever got.[/spoiler]

That said, I'm looking forward to the second book in the Forerunner trilogy. Since Halo 4 will likely focus on the Forerunners and/or Precursors, I think there's more to learn about the future of Halo from its past.

ToyMachine, you need to delete the "s" in your first spoiler tag. I wouldn't think that stuff is a really big spoiler but you never know.

This reminds me:
the Slipspace technology found in Glasslands sounds exactly like the stuff Cortana found out in First Strike. Unless I missed something, what was the big deal?

Being able to slip in and out at an exact location. Human slip drives were far from being accurate.

The
Infinity is probably the first ship that can actually make use of the techniques Cortana learned from the Covenant Carrier. Just knowing it can work doesn't mean its actually going to work for them right away.

Preview chapter before the new year.

ZOMMGGGGGGGGG

So I read all of First Strike in a day, probably will be the same with Primordium

(At this point I'm just throwing chunks of Cryptum at stuff from other corners of the franchise, hoping they stick together)

"They then instructed the quarters to extrude a new set of armor, black with green highlights -- the colors of a special advisor to the Council."

Hrm. But you think GS would recognize a council ship, right?

It could be a completely new ship using far distant technology that just carries old design traditions.
It does sound likely, but I'm also curious about how much Spark did not know. He was completely baffled by the Ark and its functionality, for example.

From an in-universe point of view, there would be little reason to connect the two together, but for us, that's (as far as I can remember) the only time those colors were combined in a Halo design.

Don't we see some location from Halo: Cryptum?

This is definitely the council:

(I like that we see a star map before this part)

Note: I am very excited about the new Ridley Scott movie but also very relieved that we put the term "Prometheans" out there before we knew about that movie. Actually Joe Staten coined the term internally about four years ago.

I am 100% comfortable with any and all crossover between the Halo Universe and the Alien Universe.

Fret not

Only 9 more days left to this year.

Then 2012 begins. We shall get what we crave and more. Just have to be patient. And keep offering our weekly chicken sacrifices to the almighty Frankie.
