Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn - Part 4 [Available To Watch]

Pretty uninformed review. Not knowing the who or why about MC's voice actor... Not noticing the fact that
Mehaffe was gunned down
in front of lasky or hearing him tell the others... Etc.

Poor review...

It's ign. They like to not check things before opening their mouths. See ex-OXM's - now with ign - Ryan's unboxing of Halo 4 Xbox 360 for more ign goodness.

Yeah, I'm going Blu-Ray too.

Same. Sucks having to wait til Dec 4, though.

I am now here to retract my original statement about this being bad. The first episode was bad, but it has quickly escalated to being arguably better than any video game adaptation. They captured Chief's swag perfectly.

That was fucking awesome. I was expecting the show to fall apart once the action started, glad I was wrong. I'll be picking this up on Blu-ray for sure.

heh,
I realize now what happened to the colonel lady. Knew she got killed by the needlers, but then noticed she exploded when she hit the ground. Bruuuutal

Wait, does the Blu-ray get the extra footage?

I believe so:

Man, I didn't expect these to be good, and certainly not this good. I just watched all four in a row, and they got progressively better.
The shot of the Covenant Corvettes in the sky at night, holy shit. And the introduction of the Chief, so good.

If this is what they can do with a decent script and limited resources, it's a damn shame we never got a true movie. Maybe some day.

"Who's the best shot here?"

"Probably you."

That part was great. Just watch all 4 episodes back to back. I told myself to wait till the last one came out but i cracked today for some reason =(. I can't wait to next week though lol.

I'm still not feeling the re-design of the Elites. Halo 3 still did it best in terms of design. Should've went with that but far more detail, obviously.

WOW. No punches pulled in that. The dude's glasses fogging up right before...well, yeah, absolutely horrifying. Glad Sully(?--nerd kid) is still around. The moment where the girl (okay yeah I suck with names) picked up the carbine was great too, just like that moment where you first find some awesome new weapon in the game.

All these Halo shorts that have done things right (these, the old Blomkmap series) do such a great job of actually making the Covenant and their weapons TERRIFYING and truly powerful--sometimes the games themselves seem to lose that.

These are not the redesigned Halo 4 or Halo 3 elites, they are the elites from Reach, which given the time period of FUD makes perfect sense.

Master Chief is his rank. His name is John and he is Spartan 117.

No. Not at the time this event happens. He is 15 years old in Forward Unto Dawn, and has not yet reached the Rank of Master Chief.

But yes, his name is John, and yes he is Spartan # 117.

This episode managed to top 3 which is quite impressive since 3 was stellar.

Whoever helped make this happen should pat themselves on the back. If the final ep ends on a bang and not a whimper, then this will be one of the best media promotions for a video game ever.

True at the time period he shouldnt be but has 343i shown us what exact rank he is at this time? Junior Petty Officer ranks?

I think that the only Spartan to get a proper military Rank was Lt. Kurt Ambrose, the rest of the Spartans had ranks, but they sort of operated outside the military (they were more like an ONI type of thing)

Specially during the events of the series Foward Unto Dawn. Don't really remember if they were formally incorporated after they were made official to boost morale. I know that that's when they started with the whole "Spartans Never Die"...

I loved this episode, the tension it had throughout was amazing. They were actually able to make the Covenant seem terrifying, and they really portrayed how ruthless they really are. The scenes with the invisible Elites were absolutely amazing, my god.

So, I do have a complaint or two: MC looks awkward as hell, the visor just makes his whole suit look like a Halloween costume. Also, who the hell wrote his lines? Super corny. I wish they filmed him less like an action star. But yeah, other than that, wow.

I just hope we get to see the covenant up close more before this is all said and done.. Its really too bad they basically had 2 3/4 episodes as set up.. While I liked them, I now really feel like next week being the end seems super rushed.

Anyways, can we get a gif of the supercombine and the close up elite kill?

I just finished watching all four episodes and I have to hand to them, it's very well done in my opinion. good actors, good choice of location, goodish but obviously budget cg and overall just very impressive.

it makes me want a proper halo movie, am I right in thinking is is as close as we're ever going to get to one?

Oh, one more (bigger) complaint:

So they lock themselves in, Lasky sends out the message, the try to get the weapons and suddenly the Elite starts bashing down the door. So they hide, the Elite comes in, looks around and finds em.. MC comes to save the day. MC says he came because of the message and there are no other survivors on the whole planet.

Wtf?

I mean, last I checked this whole conflict started maybe 15 minutes ago? And they weren't in that room for more than 5 minutes.. was there supposed to be a huge time lapse in that room? I just don't know how the whole planet fell, or even how everyone outside died in that short amount of time.. I mean we saw a ton of survivors before they ran inside. Surely there would be other alive on campus hiding such as them. I just don't buy it, unless there was meant to be a time lapse, but even then no other survivors is a stretch.

Also, it does seem the Covenant are just there to kill. Why not Glass/Bomb em and then send in troops to pick off any survivors? Especially an easy target like the academy.

lol, no. Dude would be like 45 or some shit. Give or take.

Thought so.

I didn't love the voice actor. Yes it sounded like a younger Downes though everything seemed to be in the same tone. Also didn't like the "Call me Master Chief" line, but I guess 343 Industries wants to expand the audience so it works.

For the series, but you will see how they connect to the game, if you get the game.

thanks. I'm definitely getting the game, already got my halo reach console packed up and ready to be traded in toward a new halo 4 console. it's served me well these last few years, but the halo 4 console looks so much better and it's always nice to have a new console.

it's been a while since I was this excited for a game.

That's no longer an option. Everyone MUST get the game.

Rewatching, notice Chief's shield doesn't go off when he takes that shot for the kid. I forget exactly, but shielding for the Spartan armor doesn't come until they get the idea from the Covenant right, so the suits aren't at that level yet?

Damn. The scene where they're being stalked by the camouflaged Elite was fantastic. Textbook example of doing more with less, obviously saving on CG but also using the situation for tension and some cool touches like the sparks bouncing off it and the breath misting things up.

I also liked how the pistol is overpowered and ridiculously good from distance even in this. Very authentic.

I should have the chance to see the final episode this weekend. Excite!

Chief's just 15 and therefore 35ish in Halo 4?
He's around 45 in Halo 4, but physically he'll be younger because he's spent a lot of time in cryo and travelling FTL.

Shields don't come in until the Mark V armour, which is the one in the first Halo game. Doesn't enter service until 2551.

I noticed that as well but figured it was just that they didn't want to add the effect in, but now that I think about it you are right. Good call.

The plates of the armor are made of a reflective metal that minimizes the damage of plasma based attacks.

Mark IV has no overshields.

Any idea of which studio is distributing the BD? Halo Legends was handled by Warner and wasn't region coded, so you could import freely if this is the same.

I'm in the UK and will be buying it regardless because I have a multiregion player, so I'll test it when I get it.

Man I really love this series. Excellent episode, even though I could feel it coming I was psyched when
Chief kills the Zealot

It kind of bugs me that they took such care to accurately capture the sight and sounds of the guns and vehicles of Halo so well, but then in a few places they just ignore the timeline.

Zealots in Reach and Anniversary look like this

But in FUD and Halo 4 they look like this

Which makes no sense because FUD and 4 are on opposite ends of the series chronologically, and the Elites in Halo 4 aren't even part of the Covenant. It can be explained by saying "prior to Reach some Elites still used this old ass armor and then it was all that was left after they split from the Covenant", but it's weird because Elite armor is supposed to be highly traditional.

And then Chief appears to be wearing Mark VI armor? I can't think of a way to explain that.

Overall it's still a wonderful series but the small touches like having Mark V armor or traditional Zealot armor would have made it slightly cooler. It just seems strange to make all of this great looking stuff but forget about the series chronology in just a few places.

This is great, just watched all four episodes. I loved the part where the girl (spacing on the name) picks up the carbine and takes out the jackal.

I don't think the Elite changes are part of the canon. It is merely and update to the character, thus why they are that way in FUD. This is how Elites have always looked in the Halo 4 canon, even pre-Reach.
