Am I the only one you thought the latest episode was lame? Wasn't enjoying this series until episode 3, which I thought was good, now I'm back to feeling indifferent.
I can't figure out why though, I'm just not feeling it.
He should have just said "Call me, [Dramatic pause] Chief [Cue silent chanting monks]". Done.

I agree he should have been a bit more authoritative with the recruits, but he can't state his rank and designation because he technically doesn't even exist and isn't part of the military at this point in time.
To which the kids respond "...what the hell is a Spartan?"
At least with an informal rank, they can address him without knowing too much. Like addressing Sergeant Johnson as just "Sergeant"
I have no complaints about the name, just the delivery.
Damn "Call me Masterchief" was so cheesey. He just should have said "Iam Spartan one one seven"
But the real question is was he even a Master Chief at that age..?
Well they are already looking at the military secret. Giving them a name probably wouldn't make it much worse. And when you want it to be more human then why not let him say: "I'm John"?I think that would've been too robotic and out of character. Chief has never been this Robocop type of cyborg, his reactions were always on the human side. He knows that they don't know what Spartans are - and they shouldn't know, the whole program is a military secret.
I like this one the most"Call me by rank; Master Chief"

That would have been equally as bad.He should have just said "Classified! Just call me Master Chief"
Naw, I feel the same way. I've reset my expectations from "awesome" to "web series based on a video game" for episode five.Am I the only one you thought the latest episode was lame? Wasn't enjoying this series until episode 3, which I thought was good, now I'm back to feeling indifferent.

Should have asked him what he is, not who he is.
"Are you ODST?"
"No."
"What the fuck are you..."
"I'm your best hope for survival"
amirite??? Hehee
Fixed. I would've preferred it like this. By implying he's something else adds to the mystery, those cadets will probably learn who or what he is when they're somewhere safe.
hm. true. I also think he himself doesn't know what he really is. He knows it has something to do with being a soldier and that's all.
- Who are you?
- John.
- k.
Someone earlier in the thread said something about the Reach Spartans having their own internal ranks. John had the rank of Master Chief amongst the Spartans and supposedly was made a real MC upon disclosure of the program

You're all terrible.
It should have been:
'Who are you?'
*Explosion goes off up ahead*
*Chief raises his hand, looking toward the sound, turns back*
'Form up on me. Radio silence from here on out. Move.'
I don't think a wide-reaching series like this calls for a subtle intro... elegant, sure, but not subtle. It features an iconic character afterall, his name needs to be delivered with a sense of authority. Maybe at the end when they get back to base, a senior officer approaches him and says "Job well done, Master Chief"... or "It's only gonna get more fucked up from hereon Master Chief" something like that lolIt should have been handled in a better, more subtle way, thats for sure. Maybe we should have just heard Kelly over radio chatter call him Master Chief.

Erm, it's precisely because it's a wide-reaching series that saying 'I'M MASTER CHIEF' is completely unnecessary.
Pops said Chief should have said: "Call me, John".
*Nodding at my pops*

- John.

Winner
Master Chief is 'just' his rank, right? .
That would have been equally as bad.
Maybe he could have said "They call me Master Chief" or just John-117.
Guess there's no good way around this....

you guys are writing fan fiction now?
the worst THE WORST
This is right, but the Master Chief line wasn't as cheesy as alternatives suggested so far.As a Halo fan since the beginning, the cheese adds to the awesomeness. Seriously.
Okay it got kinda good once the invasion started.
Then let down again when Master Chief was introduced. Why did they change the voice actor?
I'm pretty sure if I googled Halo + Master Chief I will find far more disturbing material than anything that is allowed here.
