Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

Had some fun games with Shadowfells, Frank (Deadpool) and Vlaud last night. My performance was garbage though. We were having issues with the party system and in-game chat. Frank was having some lag issues/black out screens as well during a few matches.

When it worked though, it was a lot of fun. Just wish I played better for my fellow Gaffers lol
It's alright man. I think I sucked in at least one of the games. Haha

Lol very up and down by all of us I think. Pumped to play some more though; I may be on in the afternoon a bit. Hopefully we don't have the party issues like last night. Definitely costed us a handful of games played.

Just some lag plus not the most amazing shot, but really that should've been enough to put him down I thought.

OH man, this is exactly what happens to me and is the reason why I'm not playing some much as I want.

Lag is unbearable. The game keeps connecting to distant data centers (probably one on the US), giving me huge disadvantages against those playing with very low pings.

343i needs to take a step back and think of their international customers. Data center selection is a must. TMCC and now the H5:B clearly shows that their systems is flawed.

If thid change doesn't come, I can't see myself buying H5. I really like the new game play mechanics, but I simply can't buy a game where I'll be in an unfair playing field for most of my matches.

this should go without saying, but you are playing a beta 11 months out from launch. its specifically to test out multiplayer and balance and is not remotely feature complete.

I get that. Its just frustrating to have medals in the game and have no way of finding out what any of them mean.

Just finally played. Here are my initial thoughts:

Con's:
Get that ADS out of there. It's distracting and it's total ADS. I don't care what they say, there is without a doubt an advantage to being scoped in. at minimum, give us a classic zoom.

It's not that bad, I have gotten used to it, with the pistol I can now kill bad BR/DMR players unless you're an equal or better shot than me.

In previous Halo's if your team was spawning with AR and the enemy had map control and long range it was game over.

Now, if you're a good shot you can fight back.

Has there been any clue as to what the final 3 maps will be? I know of the 2 we currently have, the grounded midship, and the crossfire map. I'm hoping once new maps are added old ones aren't taken away. Playing the same 2 maps over and over again gets old

Yeah those party issues were terrible. I couldn't hear you guys on chat during most of the games either.

It was a lot of up and down. I might be on this afternoon. We shall see.

Just finally played. Here are my initial thoughts:

Pro's:
The game moves well meaning its silky smooth
The gameplay is there meaning a tweak here or there is all you need

Con's:
Get that ADS out of there. It's distracting and it's total ADS. I don't care what they say, there is without a doubt an advantage to being scoped in. at minimum, give us a classic zoom.
It's a little "heavy" - for a game built on movement it feels slow unless you are sprinting. Bump the base player movement up
The jump is to low, it's not Reach low but it should be at least Halo 4 high if that makes sense.
After a few more games, Fuck that sword buff. You already have sprint and thrusters. You dont need the guy to have infection type speed. Strafe is slow which is nothing new. I hope they bump it. I also cannot tell the non weapons by sight, these maps are to hazy. What is their obsession with haze? Obviously the AR needs a nerf, its almost SAW like power. From mid range a BR should be able to take an AR player out but the AR has too much range.

The BR does not feel like the BR anymore, its not familiar. The scope on the BR and DMR is too slow when switching. JUST REMOVE THIS ADS, nobody likes it.

Last, get rid of that spartan charge. Its cheap. At least implement some kind of melee parry.

My honest opinion about ADS is that I don't really notice it anymore. It was weird at first but it does not bother me at all. It does screw up with the sniper but that's all what's bugging me.

As for scoping in vs non scoping. That's been in all the Halo's to my knowledge.

As for automatic weapons, that crap needs to get nerfed. SMG needs to get it's smart scope nerfed because it shoots almost like a SAW from Halo 4 when zoomed in. Almost same thing with the AR.

Trenches is the Crossfire remix.

Also Empire is technically an Eden remix.

Agreed. I don't think any of the autos should have ADS but if they keep it, nerf them. The SMG is just ridiculous. Also, the scope for the DMR is too small for my liking and blocks too much of the screen. Make it transparent like the BR.

First impressions: This is not Halo.

Does it grow on you, or what should I expect here?

I think the best advice would be "your experience may vary". I've seen opinions kind of all over the place on the beta so far - some love it, some hate it, some think it's meh, for some it's just not their style

After my first day with it I thought it was decent, but definitely had a "this doesn't feel like Halo" kind of vibe to it. After the second day with it I actually started to like the game less.

It still amazes me that this beta has 1 less map then what Halo Reach shipped with. Hopefully the remixed maps are more then just pallet swaps.
 
I stand by Bamber Jamper being the best and most familiar Halo control setup for Halo 5. I can't imagine using anything else. Everything that needs a brief tap is right there and having smart scope and crouch on the sticks is something I always have to play with.

Default looked disgusting from the get go.

This sums up my feelings toward the game perfectly....at the moment at least

After playing a bit more, AR range is fine. It becomes worthless at range as soon as a hit is made and the player is zoomed out. My ideal weapon set so far is BR and SMG. BR and AR works great too as I pay much more attention to where I am and change weapons according to the combat space I will be in if someone attacks.

Well I own the MCC, the more I figure out why the beta is bad the more I can work around it, for example no point playing in the late evenings I will get overseas servers which is one of the biggest problems right now.

Outside of spending 30 minutes earlier looking for a match i've not touched it today, that's not a lot when you work from home.

I personally find ADS really annoying and unnecessary visual clutter

there would be no "choice" if classic scope was offered, lets not pretend otherwise. you would definitely be at a disadvantage using the smart scope.

I like it. Its basically COD 2150. Which I don't consider a bad thing. I think it moves tad too fast. that said, I cant wait to play a big team battle on something like blood gulch!


+grenades have good weight, that's a Halo staple!
+good dynamic lighting on everything, another staple!
+engine feels like it has a lot going on under the hood. staple #3.

- moves too fast. its like Halo1 on meth.
- you move so fast the run feels pointless.
- needs a double jump
- looks like its running at very low res.

This is the stupidest of reasons in favour of ADS but it works better with VR devices also.

And i hear MS has a project in the works
 
That's it, I am done. Can't stand the fact that the first hit after no shield drops me instantly while I need to keep hitting. It feels like random ttk like in CoD. I have seen people drop me instantly with the pistol, yet that shit doesn't fly for me. Another good one is grenades, mine feel like firecrackers as opposed to the nukes that I get thrown at me.

Also, get that default shit scheme out of here. Killcam shows guys repeatedly going in and out of scope as if they are quickscoping.. wtf have you done 343.
 
Not really. Following the 1.1 patch, grenade spam made way for good BR battles. Now Halo 3, that was a grenade spam fest, mainly because the weapons were so fucking useless.
Halo Reach Nades were literal football nukes. Anyway, I say change it to 1 nade spawns. And enable friendly fire to decrease nade spam. Unless it's in and I haven't noticed it?

its not in, but the spartan chatter would make you think otherwise.

I don't mind the grenade behavior at this point or the spawning with 2. I feel like with the lower TTK from the starting weapons, at least having grenades to weaken your opponent is key to defending yourself. Not getting the jump on them is much more prevalent in this game than previous Halos, imo. Bordering on COD levels. At least with a few grenades you can attack and use thruster to give yourself a chance to defend or gain the kill when you get blindsided at spawn.

I'll be on in about 2 hours to play. Need to get a workout in first. The black screen issues I was having was definitely the beta as I could hit the Xbox button and see the UI. Hopefully that doesn't happen again.

Yea, it's tough to be critical towards a beta, but still want it to work properly.

I'll hit you up if you're on when I am later.
 
21-6? No problem, we'll just give you 3 horrible teammates to even stuff out. Match lone wolves with lone wolves, please.

These games all feel like 1vs4.

You have to be more careful in this Halo. Stick with your team, because running and gunning will get you murdered fast.

I personally wouldn't change a thing about the game except for making the weapons on the ground easier to see, and also making the blue team easier too see. Other than those two things, I think it's near perfect.
