Yeah, I was turned off by the Spartan chatter the second I heard it. I think there should be a toggle on/off option for it in audio-settings just like there's a setting for auto aim in most games.

Anyway, does anybody notice the 720p graphics? I don't own an X1 yet but I've been looking at some live-streams and whatnot. The graphics are a tiny bit better than Halo 4 in MCC but it's hindered by the fact that it runs 720p, but at least it's 60fps.

So there is not disable for the Spartan Chatter? Needs to be a toggle.

Did they send out codes for this or does it come up as something extra when I load up MCC? I'm really interested in playing since it's definitely gonna influence if I buy Halo 5 right away or not.

Xbox dashboard preview members received access this weekend. MCC owners with get the beta starting December 27th.

Correction: the 29th

Man, this game is fun. The only major gripe I have right now is the SMG. That thing is just OP. The AR could be toned down a bit, as well. But, for the most part, this game feels very balanced. Really digging the movement. Feels like a nice mix between traditional Halo, Titanfall, and COD AW movement. Feels really nice. This early access has me really excited for the full beta.

Here's something that bothers me far more than it should. The winning Spartans doing all that bro-inspired taunting and flailing at the end of a round like a bunch of meat heads. It breaks the fiction for me, I just don't see Spartans behaving like that.
The older generation of Spartans wouldn't behave like that. But these Spartan IVs are basically among the best of the Marines you've been fighting alongside since CE. :p

It's actually a part of the fiction established in Halo 4.

That said, I also wish that they weren't quite as... Animated. In these victory scenes, at least.

Frankie said they heard a lot of complains already, and this will be toned down for the final release.

I wish they'd go with the more heroic poses, like Destiny had. I really like those.

Man this beta, this fucking beta. I can't imagine how good BTBs are going to be.

And am I the only one who likes the dudebro poses?
Yeah, I'd prefer my spartan to be more like Chief, stoic in victory. All that needs to be said was said on the battlefield by winning. Luckily frankie said in OT that they've had alot of feedback on this and it's getting changed somehow.

to me it feels like theres to many buttons to press for all these different actions,

wish boost was on the stick like cod

I don't have any strong feelings for them either way. But I think it makes sense that the IVs don't act like the IIs(or even IIIs) because their upbringings are completely different.

I do, however, think that there should be different poses to choose from because these ones will get old fast.

Gonna to avoid watching streams 'n clips until we can access the beta from the MCC. This is rough. :(

I wanna play, but I ain't spendin' no $30+ to do so a couple of weeks early.

Oh, that's good to hear.

Probably not even possible, but it'd be nice if you could choose what kind of attitude your Spartan takes after victory, kind of like how you could choose your pose in Halo 4's character customization.

Only played a few matches last night but I was pretty impressed. It's a bit weird getting used to the boosters but the game flowed very well. The assault rifle even does decent damage now!

The Spartans in multiplayer are normal Marines that have been turned into Spartans as adults. Master chief and the rest of the Spartan-IIs are much stronger and wear heavier armor.

I don't expect Marines to be 100% serious all the time but the ending poses are a bit much.

I hope they keep the beginning splash screen though, it's a nice indicator of which side your on at the beginning of the match.

Yeah, I can see why people can an issue with the constant COD/Dudebro callouts in gameplay during matches.

I'd prefer for there to be an option to get rid of them, too. Not a fan of Spartan IVs in lore or in game now.

Dear 343 nobody like Reach ranking system. There was a reason people were excited for the ranking system in the MCC. If you want to keep this ranking system fine, but give us the option of obtaining a 50. You can be stubborn all you want , but this is a must if you want to keep the community alive and well.

What a great idea! Paging stinkles :)

Edit: If your guy is set to "dudebro" and the others are all "stoic" it would be lolworthy if yours go for a high five and the others just leave you hanging

The ranking system in Halo 5 is essentially ELO, isn't it? I don't think Reach had that (although I could be mistaken). I like that the tiers give a pretty good indicator of someone's skill -- and the pro tier itself is literally the top 200 players so that's a lot more indicative of someone's skill than say a 50 beside someone's name. It's still a skill based ranking system where your rank can go up or down. From looking at it, it seems to be better than the standard 1-50 ranking system of Halo 2.

No, I think that by call outs he's referring to the in game chatter, in which the Spartans continuously communicate about enemy positions, kills, medals, weapon pick ups, etc.
I really like this feature though. I don't need a party to communicate with me now, the game does all the important communication.

I was having lots of fun until the spawning turned to shit. Would spawn with a sword guy 5 feet behind then spawn again the other 3 players laying waste within a second. Will any developer ever come up with good spawns?

Me too, I really enjoy it, but people are complaining a lot.

I think they could tone down the chatter about weapon pick ups, but I think it's very impressive how relevant the chatter is.

The movement and gunplay feel so damn GOOD. Despite knowing it is slower than previous games, I wonder whatit is that makes it satisfying. Is it the extra weighty feel behind combat? I guess I need a lot more time with it to get a true feeling for the game.

While not exactly the same as reach it follow the tier base thing. i do not care for that. I want my 50. You can still do this but allow me to get a 50 also in the process. I care more about that then what tier I'm in.

You could just think of the "pro" rank as 50. It's gonna be a whole lot harder to reach that rank though since only the top 200 players at any moment will have it. I don't think there's any room for both a 1-50 and ELO based rank since they are both similar with different styles of presenting someone's skill though. Perhaps they could do a classic mode where it has that type of ranking system with the Spartan Abilities gone and the game is focused around simulating classic Halo gameplay but other than that I don't think it would be possible to have both.

Or maybe they could use a 1-50 ranking system that judges a player based on individual skill since the ELO system should theoretically do both -- team and individual skill are incorporated in.

i'm getting old, lol. cant wrap my head around thrusters, stabalizers, dash, and ground pound. none of which are in my mid-match repertoire. also, despite not being hugely different from traditional halo scope, my brain is having a hard time reconciling seeing the ADS and not using it in the traditional way. i keep holding to ADS and wanting to left trigger (which is not scope in my halo loadout, bumper jumper). amazing how slow i am to adapt to new things in my twitch shooters these days

So I got my issue resolved and played a couple matches.

Quick matchmaking times.

Latency seemed great in both matches.

My brain is having trouble with the default layout, multiple wrong button presses. Crouching when meaning to zoom, etc. I'll get it after a couple more matches.

Feels like Halo. Grenades, guns, melee.

Sprinting after a fight got me killed a couple times as my shield recharge got delayed. Need to remember not to just spam it lol.

Was just starting to get the hang of the boosts. Definitely adds another layer to combat.

BR feels good. Zooming feels good. It's a BR, its my boy.

Sound has a nice punchy feel to it. Like it.

Hope they have a nice AA solution in mind, lol.

Intermission after a match seems long.

Overall, I like it so far.

but saying i'm a pro doesn't mean much to me. I get hyped going after a 50. i get hyped facing 50's. I will not get the same thrill and satisfaction unless a 1-50 rank is implemented. if it isn't there I'll play Halo , but I know other games will steal me away from it. chasing after 50's and the fun of beating on them kept me on Halo 3.

Great game...

Is this really on dedicated servers?? Perhaps I am playing out of region.. Because there is some noticeable latency

That's an interesting carrot. Why is going after Pro and killing Pros not as good? Seems to be even more difficult.

Josh Holmes confirmed on Twitter that all games are on dedicated servers for the Beta. No P2P whatsoever.

Discrete vs Categorical ranking? Who knows. I like the idea, however, ranking is heavily based off wins over personal performace right now. After 30 matches I'm averaging 18 kills per match and 8 deaths with a KDA spread of 11.1 yet I just now reached Gold 1 because in my first 10 matches my back wasn't strong enough to carry the other players, meanwhile I see onyx players who are significantly negative overall.
