Wow. So awesome. To me 343 has definitely done what they aimed to do "feel" wise. This looks like what I imagine 1,000 pound super soldiers battling to the death would look like!

I do think they have taken what worked in legacy Halo games, removed a lot of what people disliked in 4, and tweaked a few things to bring it up to date.

This is only team slayer too, no vehicles yet, and no capture the flag and other game modes.

I agree, props to 343. Roll on the 27th for more maps and modes. Hyped.
 
You know what will happen though, it will get to the point where people quit a match because it's not BR starts, happens all the time in the MCC.

Hopefully 343 look into this and keep BR and non BR games seperate hoppers, DO NOT MIX THEM TOGETHER it doesn't work.
 
It is. Still, a bit different from the Bungie Halo games. Most probably in a good way, and that's much to ssa.
Indeed. It seems like the automatics may be a tad overpowered, but in most halo games they've been fucking useless, and I'm glad that that pattern has changed.

I would rather 343 left the beta servers online until release than any other compensation. I don't think that I can go back to the older halos anymore. This game is just too fucking good.

This definitely reads like a honeymoon phase post. Wait till the entire beta is launched and then the actual game. People said the very same stuff about Reach and Halo 4. It's been one day, with the majority of players being preview members. Wait till the MCC community gers ahold of this game and has 3 weeks to screw around.

There are already parts of the game play that irritate me, so much so, that I'd rather have H2A as it plays on a remastered Midship than Halo 5 Midship.

The automatics are viable now. Whereas before they were shit.

Like someone said above, wait til CTF, big lag battle etc.. 343 have done a great job with this.
 
How long does the preview program beta last?

I just got my invite into the preview program, and was going to try to maybe give Xbox Live customer service a ring to have them possibly toss a code my way. :P

This is just really scratching the surface. I think there will be a ton of game modes incoming.

The full beta certainly hints at a mixture of different things.

Perhaps, but having everybody in it will be even better. Im talking about the speed and gunplay. This game destroys the older halos I'm afraid.

If they get the dedicated servers online, I can see me perhaps playing halo 4, but not the older, slower games.

A BR or DMR would not be much use in most of those situations. Maybe the final clip where I had some range.

Also, the AR is the starting weapon. Of course it is going to be used the most in this beta.

I am sure different maps/modes will have different load outs.

If I get chance, I'll put together a clip of BR / DMR / Sniper kills.

Is anyone a preview member that has their H5 beta code for the weekend, or an extra, and isn't going to use them? I will trade Ryse XB1 download code for it.

As far as I can tell MSoft said don't give codes to NON preview members, but since I am one, it's all good.
 
Ar works this time, it's a legit weapon. That said if your aim is on point you will beat an ar with a br pretty much every time, unless you run in treating the br like it can be a close qrt weapon.
 
Been playing against a lot of Americans and I'm from the UK. What gives? Thought this was running on dedicated servers?

The killcam is completely broken like Halo 4 and pretty much starts the moment you get killed.
 
So first impressions.

The ADS is pretty cool looking, not sure how often I'll use it though.

Clambering is cool and a natural edition.


Sounds are fantastic and punchy.

Graphics look like Halo 4 in MCC, far from impressive.

Tons of gltiches.

In my first match
Stuck on black screen several times after dying
Spartan Customization borked with textures not loading ever and color choices not functioning at all.

After first match, stuck on intermission for a long time then got "Excuse Us; we've encountered a problem and couldn't join you to the game. Please try again."


But this is to be expected, it's an early beta of a a game a year away from release.

That said, the graphics do concern me. While playing, nothing special looking, and when you get close up to the Spartan armor, if it actually fully loads, it's rather low red and dull looking. On par or even worse than Halo 4 models.

Also, really hope they hit 1080p in the final game. 720p is horrid and blurry as hell.


I need to see a SP trailer in realtime...
 
I prefer non precision weapons that don't take any skill to use be nerfed to the point where they're only viable against other non precision weapons.
 
This game destroys the older halos I'm afraid.
If they remove sprint, increase movement speed, remove aim punch, remove ADS from automatics, make gandhi hop and crouch jump possible and tweak maps then maybe. At its current form it's good, but not Halo 2 good.

And how is this beta fast paced? After ~30 games I'd say it's faster than Halo 3 or Reach, little bit slower than Halo 4 infinity and about as fast as Halo 2.

I think they got the balance just fine.

Ive gone on sprees with all weapons, except the Sniper, and everyone is viable given a particular situation and range.

I am by no means a skilled player, I have a KDA of 1, but I see the merits of each weapon.

Also, I've come up against really skilled players who know how to use a BR really effectively. Those headshots really matter.

The only weapon which feels 'weak' is the pistol. It feels more like a back up than a solid option. Again, unless playing a really skilled player.
 
You guys don't get it, msoft needs this to dethrone cod as the go to Fps, as it stands now halo is not the game casuals come to to play Fps. They need the weapons like the ar to work well for those types of players. This can't be a pro mlg wanna be twitch steaming game, it needs a big community of fun. Only a fraction of fans of this series care about e sports, the whole madden nfl vibe I get from the presentation scares me but I hope 343 is smart enough to know if this game is geared towards the esports scene the majority of people will walk away and go back to cod or destiny.

Imo as it stands in gaming , right now today, halo is irrevelant. The space setting, the unrealistic nature of it puts off the madden gta casuals. I don't even think it will ever be what it once was. Halo you have to remember when h2 released was the only good Fps to play online on a console, that's where everyone went. Now you have competition from every angle.

They need the newb gun to work imo, they have to.

Considering it's AR starts, you'll see a lot of that. The first week of the public beta will also be AR starts. Second week I believe is BR starts and third week, DMR starts.

Although I prefer BR starts, I guess they do need to make sure all the weapons are tested thoroughly.
 
ADS is horrible. No matter how many band-aids they try, sprint still sucks. Of all the new abilities only the thrusters looks like a positive addition. The removal of crouch jump is awful. The visual clarity is terrible. The sound effects are annoying and don't sound like Halo at all. The BR seems like a single shot weapon now, which is stupid. The new sniper is bad. The dudebro spartans are dumb. The base movement speed is too slow.

IDK, maybe when I play it I like it, but what I'm seeing in the streams is not very encouraging. Seeing Ogre 2 quitting the beta after a couple of matches to play Halo CE instead doesn't inspire a ton of confidence either.

BTW, I have one question. Does player momentum affect the grenade arc when you throw them?

ADS is easily the worst thing about this game. I'd probably have ten times more fun, were the game to have classic zoom options. Also, nerf to sprint hasn't done much. Just because they can't recharge shield doesn't mean they can't thrust and sprint and hide somewhere and wait two seconds for white nerf bar to go down and to then sprint away while health recharges. Game is very much cat and mouse already,the very thing they promised they'd tackle.

Plus with ADS on automatics, and the offensive abilities, it is very much who sees who first gameplay. There is very little empowerment to a person on defense here. If someone sees me, if they're sprinting, they can almost insta-kill charge me if close enough, if they're above, they can insta-kill ground pound me, if they have SMG and AR they can pretty much precision gun me down all the way to mid range. You know something is fucked when you can kill a BR user with a scoped AR before they get 4 shots off.

Base movement is ridiculously slow with thruster relied on too much to storage and engage.
 
Having a lot of fun with this Beta.

The sound in general is ridiculously well done and probably blew me away the most. Amazing sense of channel separation and the sounds themselves are amazing. Haven't played Battlefield in a while but this seems even better than that.

Yeah that's the one thing that is pretty great about this beta. Sounds freaking amazing.


Hopefully the graphics will be up to snuff by release, because right now they are by far the most disappointing aspect of the game.


Everything from Resolution, lighting, particles, sky boxes, textures, LoD, shaders, reflections, etc is sub par looking.

They'll never get that Call of Duty crowd no matter how hard they try. Halo isn't even on the radar for my little cousins in the states. They only care about advanced warfare right now, and even then, they're not caring about Call of Duty as much either.

Don't know why everyone feels the need to move on to new shooters every month and homogenize each one so they all look and play 99% the same. If you like a certain shooter, keep playing it, don't try to turn every single shooter into something exactly like it.

ADS adds nothing here, in fact I'd say it detracts. It's clunky, coming out of sprint or clamber, obscures the screen, DMR just has pathetic scope, automatics become overpowered, and all so some Call of Duty kids and random EGM or Metro.UK reviewers no longer call the gameplay old fashioned.

Agreed.

I'd also add that the radar has a lot to do with that stupid cat and mouse dynamic. They should either nerf it (make it more like Destiny, for example) or just remove it altogether.
 
I like how there is very little to no aim assist in this game. I hope that 343 keeps it that way in the final.

It doesn't make autos OP, it just makes them more viable at distance. Which is a very welcome change imo.

Grenade power is fine. They are definitely not underpowered.

Is DRM scope designed the way it is so it doesn't dominate matches? That's how it seems to me at least. Seems like they are trying to make it more of a long distance weapon, rather than mid range, at least when it comes to scoping in.
 
Kinda wonder if the DMR's scope was intentionally made that obstructive to kind of distinguish it more as a mid-long range weapon opposite to the BR's close-mid range.
