Halo 5: Guardians Beta Thread | Hot Red on Blue Action

I agree on the sniper. The map and the speed of the game make it impractical to use. If it was like Titanfall, fast paced but large maps, you could still stay stationary and use it practically without making yourself too much of a target, or if the game was slower you could maybe stay stationary long enough to get a few kills before people are on top of you, but Empire is simply way too small and the pace is way too fast for you to be able to stay stationary without expecting to be attacked while in scope.

I think it can work, but it would require a higher level of team communication than what you usually get in MM. There are good sniping perches (both bases have some good spots, Tower as well), but you really do need your team to watch your back.

I'm terrible with it as well, but then, I've always been a terrible sniper :P

Seriously though, most people I've talked to about it think it's a bit too easy to use, if anything. Might just be bit of an adjustment.

Yeah I def haven't adjusted to it. I wasn't the greatest sniper in other halo games but I could get kills with it. Not so many here lol

Just went 22-3 though

Azure servers only went live for XBL in Australia this past week. Local Azure servers have been in place for some time but not for use with XBL until this week.

If you're in Australia and feel like you've been playing on dedicated Azure servers since April then I'm sorry.

https://www.google.com.au/search?q=azure+xbox+live+australia

Obviously I'd prefer dedicated servers but I guess my question was more along the lines of 'have any Australians managed to get a good P2P connection with Aussie hosted games?' I haven't yet and watching videos of other people throwing grenades and having them leave their hand immediately instead of 250ms later is killing me.

I'm in Europe, and I have definitely played some games out of region. But on games in my region... Wow so good.

Loving this game. Best halo by a long shot. Sorry it had to be said...

My impressions so far:

Things I like
-Sound effects (some of the best I've heard)
-Team mate chatter
-Map design
-Movement (Sprint, thrusters, and clamber) Almost has the fluidity of Titanfall.
-Every gun seems useful depending on the situation

Things I don't like
-Kill cam doesn't always work right
-The announcer can get repetitive.
-The celebration screen.( It could work if they had more variety of celebrations or each Spartan had an unlockable celebration to perform)
-The pregame lobby is kinda of dull.

I hope they lower the experience loss for losing. Needs to be based on your game. Just went 15-3 and 17-8 but lost 30 experience cuz my team was terrible

This game is amazing, really enjoying it so far. I also barely use the scopes and stick to hip fire and don't feel penalised as some say might happen.

So I started to notice something. Every time I use a grenade, it's good at suppressing or pushing the enemy back but rarely do I get any kills unless I have line of sight on them, at which point I could just kill them with my weapon.

But there's been so many times where the other team throws a grenade blindly up a corridor and it takes me out, whether it lands exactly at my feet or just close enough to take me out.

Is there something I'm missing, or am I just really unlucky?

Radar?

I know this isn't useful to you now but if you can't get 8 with this pre beta then we can try when the actual beta hits because i assume more people from aus (like myself) will be playing.

are you just chucking them or bouncing them off the floor or walls?

I just can't get enough of headshots with the magnum, playing gives me a fizzy willy ;)

Seriously tho it's phenomenal, I'm going to be gutted when it ends and the wait begins and seriously well done on 343 taking some brave risks and changes to make halo fresh and fabulous again.

The ranking is amazing too, gives such a great element to the meta play, it should be the norm with the exeption being a un ranked playlist.

Coming hot off some great Titanfall matches, I really hope the added mechanics in Halo 5 can come close to that brilliance. That evade ninja gives me hope.

Let me dive way too deep on the subject of end-game celebrations... Disclaimer: These celebrations are not a big deal, I just think they're interesting.

I bet Halo 5's celebration scenes were created for two reasons: Merging Halo's multiplayer mode with the story/universe, and emphasizing the mode's focus on competitive gaming. They want to characterize the spartans, and they'd like those characterizations to emphasize the whole competitive shtick. Cool, fine, great.

Here's one of the biggest issues with competitive gaming: Shitty abrasive communities. LoL, Dota, CS... They all have community issues, and that is almost always what blocks outsiders from joining. "It looks neat but I'd just get yelled at." When a game is about interacting with members of its community, the community *is* the game's face. So, esports games emphasize the everloving shit out of respectful interaction. They investigate reported players, reward well-behaved players, and generally spread 'respect' throughout their game's messaging. Emphasis on that last part.

The error is here: Does the celebration come across as genuine, or antagonistic? Right now, it reads as the latter to me — like a high-pressure-douche-nozzle. So from a game design perspective: What is the effect of forcing winning players to antagonize the losing team? It's actually a really interesting question. One of the only times the game takes control of your multiplayer character, it is for this. That makes it significant, whether or not the designers considered that. That's why this tiny detail is getting so many responses.
To me, if I take it at face value and not as a misstep in the game's design, it reads as a comment on the spartan program's inhumanity. How it transforms innocent babies into murderous douche-nozzles. But I'm not sure that's what is intended, nor justified.

Does anyone else just love the DMR? I swear it's the best weapon in the beta right now.

Always the first weapon i go for on Truth. Love it!

Traversal in this game is the best it's ever been shy of actual wall running. Using thrusters +clamber i get across maps so fast.( i've wanted this kind of movement/traversal in Halo ever since i first played Crysis 2, I still don't know how to slide yet though.)
Thruster was the only armor ability i used in H4 and i am glad it's a regular ability now. Even with all this it still feels like Halo, just a lot faster. I am curious about how this will play out in BTB.

Gonna guess you slide by sprinting then hitting crouch mid-sprint.

I wanna report a bug.

You guys know the big hologram in truth right? Right above where the sword spawns. I noticed something.

Sooo... in 500 years we will discover a new planet in our own solar system. Inside the meteor barrier. Seriously, 343i doesn't even know how many planets there are in our solar systemer, how can they make a good game ?! I dont trust them... Pre - order canceled.

PS: and no, the inner circle is not the sun, because it has a spinning dot in it. I double checked it.

So, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars aaaand... Whos the new guy ?

j/k, not cancelling pre-order.

Is that supposed to be our solar system?

This. On numerous occasions I have had 25+ kills with very few deaths and lost a lot of ranking points because of idiots going neg ten.

Isn't it the Treshold system? We're near Threshold and a Halo ring, after all.

ADS on the pistol is annoying with the reticle going up and down, definitely not just a visual difference from classic zoom.
I've never liked ADS on pistols because the muzzle jumps after every shot, covering your target. I think the smart scope zoom would be much better and more "Halo-y".

Can someone explain the ranking system? From clips and streams it looks similar to Reach's Arena system.

It's basically Starcraft 2's system. They apparently have employed the guy who did that system.

You do placement games then you are put onto a ladder/tier.

Eg I was put on Bronze II, midway through the 2 tier for team slayer.

It looks like you will have different rankings for each gameplay type.

Do you see yourself go up and down instantly based on per-game wins? Or is a lot of the mechanics stored behind the scenes until the system decides you're ready to jump to the next division?
