Halo 5 Multiplayer Coverage! (no campaign spoilers)

No, that's actually not all that matters. When a dev goes from making some of the best ever PVP to making some of the worst, it matters. Seems like 343 has us covered though. At least so far.

Bungie never cared (or understood) what made Halo good and Destiny was the perfect opportunity for them to deviate from it as far as possible.

The gunplay in that game is sublime and it's what made the PvP fun to me. But their continuing misunderstanding of both their Halo successes and Destiny itself will cause them to stagnate.

What matters is having a developer that understands their game and playerbase and is willing and able to move the game forward based on that. With the changes to Halo 5, it looks like 343 has been a good example of that. I wasn't expecting to see most of the changes they've made to the game, especially the low aim assist.

I think the consensus is going to be that people will want break-out as it's own playlist and out of arena.

I think it's just too different

I'm almost positive it's already separate. It's included today because gametypes are consolidated due to low preview population.

It's I ckuded in the arena Playlist which is a mashup of all the different modes. It's also seperate.

I agree, take it out. It has its place but not there.

I've already seen a couple streamers get upset when it comes up

So far, so good. I think it's a bit of an odd decision to have so many pro's run amok amongst journalists reviewing the game, I've encountered pro teams that dismantled my rag-tag group of GAFfers in minutes and guys who had trouble differentiating the skybox from the floor texture. I suppose it's an adequate representation of what the final game will be like. :lol

AR still has too much range. Grenades are still the mini-nukes we know and loathe from the Halo: Reach days. But the rest of the game still feels good.

Pistol is the god-king of weapons.

eh, it's good that starting weapons are powerful this time.

Launch playlists have it joint, and separate...and personally, I like it joint.

It is different yes, but I want a playlist that is a mix, and arena is that. Slayer is separate too and that makes sense. Removing breakout leaves 3 gametypes and then it may lack variety.

Breakout also only has 2 maps out of the 13 in the arena mix, it's already a minority. The point is, it's the mixup playlist, don't ask for things to be removed already, guys!

i miss dudebro spartans. the end game screen has no personality. just "boom, score, spartan, menu".

>.>
If dudebro shit = personality, Spartans should be robots.

The Spartan IIIs and IVs have already gone a long way in robbing Spartans of the badass mystique that used to define them. No need to rub it in by making them literally adopt the body language of frat boys.

I'm glad 343 listened to the feedback.

I thought it was dumb but these post-game titles are boring af. Kinda kills the energy of the match when the opening titles set the stage very well.

Yeah, I just feel the AR's a bit too powerful at range sometimes. Doesn't hold a candle to the pistol, tho, that thing is great.

Got ranked Platinum, which I'm pretty happy with. I'm nowhere near a Champion-tier player, but I'm no scrub either. Not sure if the ranks are gonna reset come launch day, but I'd probably have gotten a higher ranking if I'd hadn't been matched up with a team of pro's twice in a row. :lol

Also unlocked the Noble Chestpiece. I want the goddamn helmet. :'(

Breakout needs to get moved out of Team Arena, though. It's too different from the rest.

Wait..is SWAT in the grab bag playlist?? :|

It is now, but there is only one playlist at the moment. They just included every possible gametype so reviewers can experience them all.

Doesn't look like it's in anything but its own playlist come launch day.

Tej was just killed like 10 times immediately on spawn in SWAT, I will never undertstand how anyone enjoys that shit gametype.

Gonna be streaming a co-op campaign mission tomorrow, and then move on to Warzone. Very interested to try that mode out. I'll post a link here when it's time.

What about for the people who really dislike Breakout but still want to play CTF or Strongholds? Breakout is non-traditional Halo and shouldn't be in the core Arena playlist IMO.

Love the use of foliage and the addition of lights on the bases on Regret to let you know where you are. That was a major issue in the beta.

I think a 2/13 chance and 3/4 gametypes the player likes is a fine number that anyone can look past.

I'm pretty sure CTF will also get its own playlist eventually but arena is the mix, and should remain so.

I personally don't understand why it has no swat, and why swat has 2 playlists rather than 2 variants in 1.

#weback.

Had a blast - thanks to those that watched. Really pleased I can push out a 1080p60 stream too!

Starting to get a bit concerned with Spartan Charge though...

is pretty clever. red side has red plants and blue side is accented by water puddles. the lights on top of that are overkill IMO but i like when natural geometry is used for orientation.

shame the map had to lose its green color in the process though. maybe it's just the streams, but it looks very dark cobalt now compared to the autumn green it was in the beta.

Spartan Charge, why? Isn't it only a OHK from the back?

I think I prefer the new look, hard to tell on these pixelated streams I'm watching. I rewatched the Sprint last night and they said they wanted it to look like it had been there for a hundred years, and the beta map didn't really convey that.

I thought "Arena" was meant to signify the traditional competetive experience. Altered damage like in Breakout and Swat doesn't fall into that cateagory. It's not terrible because as you said it's a smallish chance but I will still be irritated when it comes up.

I think Breakout will be removed as they said it's just a test for now.

Oi am watching a stream and in the play lists it does clearly state that these are 'Pre release play lists'

I guess to not fragment the small player base at the moment.

I'm pretty sure that the lead designer for the maps in Halo 2 left Bungie after the completion of the game? Can anyone back this up? I remember seeing interviews with him during the buildup to H2A and how 343 were bringing him in for the the development of H2A maps?

Could be a major reason why H2 maps were top quality. 3 was alright, Reach was shit. And Destiny I don't even know wtf happened. Why don't major news sites ever give more coverage to how shit Destinity PVP is? Like no one even questions that a developer who were so good at PVP and now they're terrible?

It is, but I've seen people use it around corners and then quickly delivering a headshot with the pistol. Brought back memories from Destiny.

I don't think I was killed a single time in the beta by SC, it seemed pretty much useless. We would form SC trains when people quit out, other than that...lol

I'll never get the super powered pistol and the crappy AR, but I guess it's #justhalothings

If I don't really care about Warzone, there's no reason to buy the digital deluxe edition right? All that extra req stuff would just be more random chances at cosmetic things for arena?

Also is there no OT yet for some reason?

Is that significantly different from a regular melee though? Does the lunge/push-back make a huge difference? Isn't it possible to hear them sprinting so you can anticipate it?

OT can't go up til 24 hours before release. Correct about the DDE.

I mean if a dude uses SC to surprise you/disorient you around the corner, I feel like you just got outplayed.

The military is full of frat bro types and that's where the Spartan IV's came from.

many reviews last year pegged the Crucible as the highlight of Destiny. I rarely saw them comment on its problems (although to be fair, most of them didn't manifest at that point).

Nevertheless, when it comes to multiplayer everyone has different standards and experiences. If you were to ask me, I'd say the quality of maps across Halo collectively went downhill after the first game, but many others would argue the opposite.

Part of the reason why we keep getting bad maps is because of how vague that definition is.

Max Obermann. His company, Certain Affinity, is working on the multiplayer for Doom.
