Halo 5 Multiplayer Coverage! (no campaign spoilers)

I generally dislike maps where the best strategy is either to spawn kill the other team or sit in a tower and shoot across the map.

And Halo keeps making a lot of that for some reason.

Watching streams all night. Halo is back baby. These kind of fps game was really missing from consoles these last years. Fun, balanced, good servers, skilled players no bs.

Yeah Halo 3 really had some questionable maps but nowhere near the awful quality of Reach. 3 at least gave us The Pit and Guardian which I liked.

Sandtrap is the worst though.

Guardian is kind of 'Insurrection 2.0'. Someone at Bungie said "Hey, look at Lockout, it' s the favorite map of our players ! We should change one or two corridors, put a green filter and a tree there, call it 'Guardian' and here is the best map of Halo 3".

Sandtrap is the worst Halo map since Halo CE (the one with dozens of teleportation)

let's not get ahead of ourselves there. been seeing a lot of delayed kills on streams.

Nah, there are a bunch of Halo 2 maps that would qualify for that first, and then at least a dozen in Halo 3.

I like how they implemented crouch jumping, didn't just dump it in favor of clamber.

Yea the pros weren't going to let that happen. They serve unique purposes anyway.

At least Sandtrap had Spartan Lasers and lots of vehicles to shoot.

I always see players tossing the flag over and over in CTF matches. Ever since Halo 2. Any else here play like me and just hold the flag the whole way (unless I'm about to die, or to pass it to a teammate)? I like holding it because of the fact that the enemy doesn't know where you are. When you toss it over and over, sure you move a little faster. But, you are just giving your position away to the enemy.

isn't there a waypoint over you at all times now anyway?

- Gameradar: How It's Done: Come talk to Halo 5 series director Frank O'Connor.
No more waiting: Halo has finally come to Xbox One. No more of that HD remaster business. Halo 5: Guardians is the console's first full sequel to the storied franchise and there are no sacred cows when it comes to the series' past. We've got a new protagonist, redesigned weapons, and a whole mess of other changes. Walking us through those changes today on How It's Done is none other than Frank O'Connor, the franchise development director on the Halo series since Reach. If you have burning questions about Halo, join us live starting at 4:30PM ET/1:30PM PT.
Live now.

no, that was a dumb halo 4 thing. Now the only waypoint is when an enemy shoots you(spots you for a couple second) or when you drop it. So its possible for you to actually stealth/hide with the flag like the old games

Slaying and being a good team player go hand in hand IMO. An inability to kill people efficiently means you're not gonna get the objective done. There are of course cases where the kid who goes 3-22 gets 2 caps in a CTF game, but that's very atypical and usually means their teammates are picking up the slaying slack and clearing the way for the caps. Same for the guy who goes 30-8 in a CTF game, they're usually holding down power weapons and putting on an immense amount of pressure on the enemy and a lot of cover for their teammates. Of course, there's outliers where there's the asshole who only slays and won't even return or grab a flag if it means getting out of their favorite position, but I think that type of player is not that common, it definitely happens, but most players who can kill very efficiently are good players who want to help the team win.

I just wish they put like 25% into personal, 75% into team winning to advance ranks.

Why's that? Because I occasionally play Halo solo?
If I can slay like no other but if I'm not setting my team up to get power weapons and power positions, I'm not playing at the same kind of level of someone who does both.

I'm not saying a kid who goes 3-20 is being a team player. He's probably garbage but it's a situation where the only fair stance is to base it off of wins. The kids who you wish would just quit out instead of finishing the match won't last too long in a skill based matchmaking setting unless you're equally awful.

Destiny has some god awful map design so maybe Bungie just lost it over time.

Well Destiny Crucible is just plain awful in general. Not even good maps could save it.

It's weird cause I feel like Bungie assumes everyone loves their PvP and that's the thing that closes the loop on the loot system by giving you incentive to get cool weapons and gear. But it just feels so bad and has some of the worst hit feedback and balance out there. Also, supers, shotguns, and heavy weapons. At least that's the vibe I get by how big of a portion it is in the DLC and the constant events.

Just played a match with Bravo. We got rekt. #rip

Dunno what playlists are going live at launch, right now it's just one containing everything.

Here they are

Those req packs are addictive. I guess that's the point.

Yep, there's really no redeeming qualities about Destiny's pvp.

some months ago, I would have nerded against this but I don't want anything to do with it now. Disappointing to see Bungie drop the ball at multiplayer.

It's a fun shooter - that's all that matters.

If it's Arena it's Ranked iirc. WARZONE isn't ranked though.

Edit: Looks like the weekend playlist may be social though.

I just would like to play something without worrying about having a team always Also, not interested in Warzone.

If I'm playing ranked, winning is the only thing that matters and that means I need to play with a crew.

No, that's actually not all that matters. When a dev goes from making some of the best ever PVP to making some of the worst, it matters. Seems like 343 has us covered though. At least so far.

That's why my scrubby butt will stay in warzone where I belong.

I really liked quite a few of Reachs maps. Countdown was fine to me but I was always running the sword. And Powerhouse or Zealot always felt like fun maps that were fairly neat to move about. Too bad the outer space part of Zealot was always removed from a lot of variants.

Loved the video. The reduced radar is really gonna make me play differently, especially in FFA matches. But giving a stronger pistol off of spawn will definitely make me more inclined to push when needed. I can't wait to see the new trick movements in H5 maps, learning quick evasive tricks are gonna be the most enjoyable thing about this release.
