$40 for a 10yr old game? Bwahahaha Microsoft being Microsoft.

$40 for a 10 year old game with Reach's graphics, remastered soundtrack, online co-op, and Reach map pack?

There have been worse deals
like $60 ODST lolololol

We all know it's really $40 for the Halo 4 beta with a free Halo CE Remastered tossed in.
Oh, shit I didn't think about this. They might actually do that just like ODST for Reach.

Has this been confirmed? I thought it was just being uprezzed and not being built using the Reach engine?

I saw the video from the Microsoft conference and let's just say it's not what I was expecting.

I thought it looked really good. Only the unveiling of new Chief made me go "huh?". His helmet was so awkward I could really tell if it looked nice or not. Well that and the framerate, both of which have been confirmed to be fixed.

To be honest, $40 seems to be a really fair price for the package. I suspect they will throw a few extra goodies in there to make it even more worth it. Maybe that mystery helmet that was seen in the press shots for Defiant map pack? And the Halo 4 beta.

That's not a special deal. That's the regular retail price.
I realize that. Just figured that I would let everyone know that that's what they are charging for it right now and should get it before they pull an ODST on us.

The game's MSRP is $39.99. ODST didn't have one that early.

So are all the character/weapon visual assets from Reach(except for the MC, of course)? If that's true....I am really disappointed. I mean, I understand that redoing all of the models/textures/materials would be a long process, but it'll be pretty jarring IMO to be playing Halo CE..with Reach weapons.

The campaign is not. It is Halo CE's models, engine, whatever. However, there is another engine running on top of it that changes the look of the game. It does nothing else.

On the multiplayer side, they are purpose built remakes for Halo Reach.

That..doesn't really answer my question. I know about the whole "top layer" graphics engine thing that the campaign has, and that the MP is a completely separate thing, in Reach.

I was talking about the campaign, and if they'll actually be using Reach models for everything. Seems like the Elites, AR, Marines, are all directly pulled from Reach, rather than being redone models based on the Halo CE designs.

The lunge was short as hell and it would get stuck on every piece of geometry there was. It was neutered beyond belief.
I'm completely speechless. The lunge was practically the same, and you're really complaining about not being able to lunge because there is a box in your way? Really? Ugh. Ridiculous.

So I spotted this:

34 pounds UK money seems a little too high in my opinion, I got ODST for 29 and even that seemed a little higher than it was worth. I say that after getting Red Dead for a tenner though, and im sure I would be happy to wait for a price drop on this, but rrp shouldnt be 34 pounds unless they are adding stuff that they havent announced yet in my opinion.

The announcement and trailer for the remake really have me lingering to pop in Halo: CE and play it but I want to wait for the actual Anniversary game to drop I think.

What is the normal full retail price for UK games? I am not sure if that's a placeholder or not. US retailers briefly listed it at $60 US but updated after E3.

I just have to post this amazing video here... I'm sure all of you have seen it before a thousand times, but THIS video makes me hurt deep down, where I'm soft like a woman when I think we are STILL not getting the original CE MP. I am so sad.

Every time I see that video I get all nostalgic, my favorite Halo montage ever :D

7/13 maps huh.. how long until the remaining six come out as DLC?

£34 is too much and isn't fair considering what the US pay, Frankie can you comment on this. Going by the same discount as the US the game should cost £27. Obviously it's too optimistic to expect a 1:1 pricing with the US but £34 is taking the piss slightly.

Eh if I can't get it for >£30 I won't buy it at launch. I love Halo but I'm not in the market to get ripped off and some of the game being Reach content isn't much use to me because I don't enjoy Reach's Shadowrun mechanics.

£40 is to the UK what $60 is to US. If the game were to launch at £34, which by all accounts it may not it would be a bad price point. If you could use your influence to get the game down to £25 it would be a steal. Although £30 is probably more what I expect.

Such a joke of a price. I was only planning on giving it a look if it was around £20.

Why would anyone buy this at this price when game like Gears 3, BF3. Skyrim, Batman, Ass Creed etc are out around the same time. Heck, you can even buy a reach for half the price.

The only way i'd buy is if they remade Halo 2 multi player.

Why did you post that? We aren't getting the multiplayer.

Has nothing to do with this thread.

For about 2 pages this thread was about whether or not Halo 2 was better than Halo 3.

However, this thread has mostly been about the exclusion of the original MP and why we are upset about it. The video I posted should show quite elegantly why we are disappointed, and what we miss from the original.

I know, I was just playing the same tune on a different fiddle.

I'm just as upset about there being no original multiplayer.

Exactly, especially considering you can get most new releases for £30 on day one anyway, so to launch a game at that price as a special deal isn't very noteworthy. Honestly I think for the remake £20-25 is about right. We can get two God of War HD games or the Team Ico collection for ~£18 on release so £30 for a ten year old game (even with new hi-res assets) is pretty ridiculous.

Again I love Halo but you can't release what's effectively the same game and a map pack and expect to succeed pricing it competitively with other new releases.

This news of the multi-player segregation is a huge bummer. I've had tons of faith in what 343i will give us, but now that this bomb had been dropped, this is the first time I've viewed the launch of a Halo title with any skepticism.
There are some things we have not announced that will make you 5% happier.

It's not like that. There are 6 maps, 1 firefight, and the 6 are all what they decided were the best 6 to remake from the entire series. At least that's what I got out of what's been said.

I still think it's too much, Tomb Raider Trilogy HD, you get 3 games, reworked textures, characters models lifted from the 360 version, DD5.1..ect for $40.

Maybe if they put Halo 2 in HD with it too it will be way better value, it's why these HD ports get release in collections, one port for $40 is just too much imho.

I think the price is right. This sounds like a lot more effort went into it than your average HD remake. In fact I think they could have gone higher (but of course I'm happy they didn't.)

Option for removed bloom in CE maps?
The playlist(s) from the Anniversary disc will appear in Reach too and players using either disc will be playing together.

edit-
what was said in the post above sounds much better, I want that instead

Closer to release you'll be able to find CEmake for cheaper than £34 elsewhere I'm sure - GAME can be gits.

The RRP for ODST in the UK was £39.99 BTW, most 360 games have a RRP of £49.99.

Pretty much. I still hope they could do some behind the scenes coding and release a patch enabling bloomless gameplay on Anniversary maps. Would go a long way to proving the franchise is in good hands.

I just hope Sidewinder is one of the maps planned, Reach needs BTB maps badly, most of the community maps besides Abridged suck.

Also that video had Halo 1 warthog wars, or at least a glimpse of it, it made me cry knowing that I won't be able to get friends together and play that with them in custom games. ;_;

Unless somehow we have Halo 1 physics in MP games!!!!!
totally unlikely but I can dream

I have. The real question is, have we played the same game? Slowdown on the very first level, only a few minutes in when you're climbing the hill after the bridge where you first encounter the Covenant. Slowdown all over the place in Campaign, and it's far worse in Firefight, especially on Glacier.

Holy shit, the fervor some of you have for the series is downright frightening. It's to the point where you completely block out any and all negatives. Reach had framerate problems. Unless you've got some kind of super Xbox that magically made the game not chug in a lot of places then you experienced them too. Stop being blinding by your love of the series and lighten up. You're not going to die if somebody paints your favorite game in a negative light, I promise.

Dude, have you ever read the Reach thread? Almost every single post is complaining about the game, and I mean that literally.

Note that I did say "some of you". I was not targeting the entire fanbase or even the entire thread, just the few people who seem to be completely blinded by their fervor.

So Game are charging £35 for Halo CEA? Pah! Play.com are charging £40, which works out at an eye-watering $64.90. There's no justification for this (even with Value Added Tax at 20% factored in we shouldn't pay any more than £30).

The sad thing is I can't say I'm the least bit surprised - I knew when the $40 price point was announced that UK retailers would simply swap the $ with a £ and call it a day. I'm a huge fan of the series and CE specifically, and I'm still intending to pick this up, but I'll be waiting for a price drop. I don't enjoy being gouged for no good reason. :(

Abridged is the worst of the whole lot of community maps. They're all terrible. Headlong would be a better fixture for Reach. There needs to be a solid BTB one-flag/assault map. Headlong is the best BTB map in the franchise, so it'd be a perfect fit.

More like the best, shall we take this over to the Reach thread then?

New releases can be upto 50 pounds if you look in the wrong shops, but most places would usually be around 40-45 for a new game. Call of Duty always seems to be 27 pounds on its day of release, but thats a one off as it always shoots back up to about 45 quid after.

ODST was 29 pounds on Amazon, and I was pretty lucky to get that, I seem to remember the price getting put up after I had ordered it? Not sure on that one, but I dont quite feel that the CE remake is worth more than ODST.

Hopefully its placeholder, but knowing the shops here it wont be. :(

Hmm 5% isnt much, but if it means we get to play Reach without bloom I will be interested.

I'm with you, I think they can coexist. At least I wish they could/did. :(

On somewhat of a side note to that point. I always thought something like a 400 point XBLA release of say Zanzibar 1 Flag CTF would be awesome and well worth it. Don't even need to update the graphics from what we had on Halo 2 BC. Just throw up the map, mode, and a party/matchmaking system. Would never happen, but I think it'd be cool.
