Halo Lore Thread

You can't look up through the top though. Your head moves with the helmet. After a certain angle for your upper and lowermost eyeball range, the rest is moot.

Well, check your peripheral vision; mine ends around my ears to the left and right, near my hairline when I look up, and near my bottom lip when I look down. Just because you can't rotate your eyes in the game doesn't mean they can't in the lore, and the shape of the EVA helmet does facilitate those dimensions, near as I can tell.

It's looking that way.

Can you feel the hype?

Hell yeah I can.

No 100% confirmation but it's looking pretty Damn likely at this point.

I guess they could find a way not too.. But that'd be a huge dick move 😨😨😨

Oh and welcome back!

Thanks :)

Hmm... So if Chief is AWOL, then maybe Blue Team is following him and not ONI/UNSC orders. One loose Spartan II is one thing, FOUR is a whole other ball game. How will they explain this to people not familiar with Blue Team? I don't ever remember seeing them in games, or even mentioned. Except for Linda in Halo CEA.

Blue team awol would make any military shit their pants.

Overall question. Do we know if John has officially told anyone of the Librarian "restoring" the human genome in him?

They were in the H2A terminals as well, the last one I believe. But that's still pretty minor in the grand scheme of things I suppose. They're need to do a good short and sweet introduction for the non-Lore fans for sure.

I could see it play out this way:

Locke & Co are heading into a confrontation or whatever, Locke could be going over Blue Teams specs & accomplishments to his other squad members, explaining to them (and the audience) some of the background. It wouldn't be too ham-fisted, and could be really cool.

The last we saw of them in Escalation they were taking missions right and left, but NOT AWOL. By HTT we know the rank & file are grumpy that Master Chief is off 'doing his own thing' and operating with a LOT of leeway but again it doesn't appear him or Blue Team are AWOL.

Obviously something has to happen in the lore to get them from point A to point B where Locke is after them, but we don't know what that is yet.

Doubtful, he'd of have a debriefing after the events. I can't imagine ONI would let him be, but by TN72H he's back in action so it couldn't have been too long or too in depth.

I could see him telling Lord Hood maybe, but only if asked, he doesn't seem the type to volunteer up any information.

I don't even know how you would describe that to someone. I guess you could let them pull some DNA, however they do that in 2558 or so, and try and see what has changed.

I could see him telling Hood if ordered.

I can also see him telling Blue Team.

I know it stopped John from being composed, but it sure seems like a plot thread that is going to come back up.

I just realized Hunters in the Dark comes out the first day of E3, so we'll get it a couple days after the MS press conference... bet its going to contain some goodies!!

It's set on the Ark. You bet it's going to contain some goodies!

I'm really hoping that Mendicant Bias makes an appearance in some fashion

What's the difference? I don't think I ever really noticed.

The H1-H3 banshees have wing-pods. The Reach, 4, and CEA versions have the wings unconnected at their tips.

IMO it's a worse design; it makes the fuselage of the Banshee seem massive and out of proportion with the wings. Having the pods makes the design more balanced, IMO.

Would Ghosts of Onyx be a good read to get familiar with some of Blue Team and other fiction before Halo 5? Any other recommendations besides TFoR (already have it)?

If you want Blue Team, Ghosts of Onyx and First Strike are the books you need. They show up in Grasslands but it's more a cameo role with all the other stuff going on.

Oh.. how odd. Yeah I like the original one a lot better.

First Strike & Ghosts of Onyx are both good primers past TFoR.

Glasslands is nice in that it finally shows what happened. It is a sizable cameo if you want to call it that.

First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx are essential; Glasslands and Escalation optional, IMO.

The correct order being:

First Strike (happens between Halo 1 and 2)
Ghosts of Onyx (during/post Halo 2)
Glasslands (post Halo 3?)
Escalation issues 8-10 (post Halo 4)

This is pretty important. I like Reach's design, but only in Reach, being a prequel and all.

It never made sense to me that the design became the current one.
It's not like the Covenant replaced their entire Banshee fleet in the short period between Reach and CE. They're just different models that are concurrently in active service. Like all of the MA5 AR and M6 magnum models throughout the games.

"These banshee wing models don't accurately represent halo imo. 343 sux."

Ya know... I never noticed the wing consistency/inconsistencies. I just figured there were various models of banshee, and that some are older and some are newer and the Covies use all available models at their disposal.

That's easy!

Read:

The Fall of Reach
First Strike
Ghosts of Onyx
Glasslands
The last Halo 2 Anniversary Terminal

Boom!

And yeah, honestly, it's hard to just sum them up. Reading the wiki page on halopedia is pretty good if not spoilery. Looking forward to how 343i introduce them for their in-game debut. Some badass flashbacks need to happen. Halo 5 terminals would be a cool place to show all the missions they've done over the years.

For those who don't know. Samuel-034 was Master Chief's first and best friend and the first Spartan II to be killed in action - I mean missing.

Also, Kurt-051 became head of the Spartan III training program. The shield world Onyx (largest known Forerunner installation by far) was given his last name as UNSC designation - Trevelyan. One of the only Spartan IIs that Halsey reveals the real last name.

All this talk of Blue Team reminds me of a fun story:

When I was in the 7th grade (2004) we had to do two different projects for a novel of our choosing. There were all sorts of options for the projects including videos, websites, speeches from a character's perspective, etc. One of my best friends (whom I'm still close with today) chose Fall of Reach for his book, and decided to write and direct a play based on a portion of the Battle of Chi Ceti. He cast himself as John (of course), and another friend and I played Sam and Kelly respectively (I'm a dude by the way, and it was decided by coin toss haha). And I must say, I nailed the performance. Should have got a Tony.

If Kelly is at all playable in Halo 5, my 11 year journey will be complete.
