The best quit penalty is not allowing them to join a game until the one they quit out of finishes. This should be instituted right after map voting ends. Tough shit if your map or game type isn't picked. Enough coddling and promoting bad behavior. I agree it'll suck for those who have momentary problems with Internet drops, but it's the best option.

Feels like BF4 campaign - I think I had to play it 3 or 4 times completely through before all weapons, etc. were unlocked. The unskippable cutscenes made it a huge chore.
Unskippable cutscenes feel they are from an alternate reality in which the skip button was never invented. What a crap reality.

balamcing n' stuff
Ehhh... I'm not so sure a boost in speed that already takes away your offensive ability and puts recharge on hold needs another penalty to it.

So far the abilities we've seen don't seem to need much penalty.

  • Thruster Pack
  • Shoulder Check
  • Ground Pound
  • Clamber
  • Slide
  • Smart Scope
(I find it hilarious that this is an "ability")
  • Hover

Most of these are passive abilities that are an extension of movement. The only ones that actually have offensive ability are the ground pound and shoulder check. Ground Pound having the risk of being a giant target for everyone to shoot as well as being hard to hit with (though I think it still needs more tuning) and shoulder check being only slight more powerful than a regular melee while being easily dodged. You could make the case that hover affects offensive capability as well but you're a sitting turtle duck.

There's also the fact that Halo isn't a class based shooter so the trade offs that work for Shadow Run don't necessarily work here.

Two things-

1. Is there any way to set up a Halo 4 custom game (in MCC) that allows you to keep static weapon spawns on a set timer? I recall figuring out how to do this in the original H4 but it took me forever- and now the options in this version don't seem to allow it.

2. Did they just leave out the Beam Rifle as a selectable starting weapon in H3? Unless it's called something else and I keep blowing past it, it is just not there.

Jesus, I wouldn't go that far. They know they messed up, Microsoft knows they messed up and most of all, all of us/ the whole community knows the messed up. Oh fucking well, they know we're mad, we've all voiced our opinions and continue to do so constructively, but wishing failure upon someone in response to failure is ridiculous.

TBH Mix I can't wish anything less than pestilence and destitution to a company that thinks it acceptable to excrete these droppings from the stock gametypes into a playlist and call it a day. I handed over £364 to play games I'd already bought over the previous 13 years, invested in their new and struggling console, paid the online Gold admission price, and they can't toss one stinkin BR start in a selection of three or even offer the possibility of an objective BR start? Or be bothered to pay somebody to implement the latest MM versions of the maps and gametypes from each native title? Enough is enough. 343 stink and they've blown this franchise. Anything important is half-assed.

Reach: Got one guy to do the title update. Promised TU hooks and changes that never materialised. TU had bugged health packs and a needle rifle that auto-headshot while aiming at the body. Never fixed.

Reach playlist support: Post-TU had several different versions of the base game that was confusing to people who spent 12 hours a day on halogaf. Proffered a botched TU/Vanilla referendum that was fundamentally flawed and thus worthless. Removed Squad Slayer. Let people buy their new DLC pack then made the DLC playlist 100% bloom Vanilla settings so people who preferred TU settings couldn't play the maps they just paid for. Launched a TU BETA playlist and set up a forum thread for it then basically acted as though it never existed and abandoned the idea. Changed the Objective playlist to 5v5 as a covert testing ground for Halo 4's objective settings. Stopped updating the playlists about four months prior to the release of Halo 4.

Halo 4: Endless things wrong with the game at a design level at launch. Go read the OT's in the six months following the games release. Long time Halo nut and community friend to the devs Ghaleon EB sells the game and all of his Halo merch in revulsion. Feature parity with Halo games 5 years its senior too much to ask. No campaign theatre, no file share for months, no red X's, no film rendering. No custom game option to turn off sprint. No ranking system.

Post Halo 4: "We'll update the Reach and Halo 3 playlists once we've shipped Halo 4, we have a legacy sustain team". Months later admit no such updates will happen. Halo 3 is free on XBL for two weeks, perfect opportunity for a population revival. Major Nelson informs the community in a podcast that Bravo is updating the playlists. Next Bulletin they tell us they're not touching the playlists. Instead of removing DLC restrictions from the lists or making the years old DLC free they go to the effort of designing the first splash screen Halo 3 has seen in years to... give players a direct hyperlink to buy the years old and overpriced DLC on the marketplace.

E3 2013 and 2014: "Halo on dedicated servers!!!!!"

Post E3 '14 and Pre-MCC release: Telling people that still may not have been convinced to buy that there will be 1-50 in all the playlists, Halo CE will have its own playlist and Halo 3 will have a shared playlist with H2 featuring hardcore settings.

A week before launch, after many had put their money down: "Oh, no CE playlist, 1-50 in one playlist only and apparently, it's too much work to take the MLG H3 settings that are already made and put them in MCC so no hardcore H3 either".

MCC at launch: They release a product that doesn't work.

MCC over a month after launch: Still not functioning at the most basic expected level. Still playing on laggy P2P connections.

the spectating idea is one of the best I have read so far concerning quitters.
really nice.

yeah what is up with the bleedthrough sometines in Halo 2A paired with some sort of movement based melee system it is weird

It's movement based? I didn't know that. lol

Halo doesn't need to be a class based shooter for it to work that way though. When you're at full shields, you can sprint all you want around the map right? So where is the penalty for that? In Shadowrun, you could do an ability called wired reflexes, it would hurt you each time you used it.

On paper, I think the Halo 5 abilities need more work, they need to have risk v reward associated with them. I can't really comment further than that until I actually play the game. The ticker here is, if the community of Halo fans give genuine feedback that requests actual change to the design mechanics of these abilities, is 343 going to listen and make the changes?

How does wireless reflexes work? Is it a boost in speed? Sadly I haven't been able to play Shadowrun yet.

As for how feedback will be handled, I don't expect them to get rid of things like sprint, ADS, or Ground Pound. However I do think that toggles aren't out of the question this time around if what Frankie said is any indication. I can also see 343 adjusting how the abilities might function (I'm not just talking tune ups). Maybe sprint could be adjusted to become more versatile while having the shield drain penalty or thruster could be given a boost jump of sorts. Maybe slide can be made to work as a dodge against vehicles (sliding under them).

Wired reflexes was a technology ability in Shadowrun. When you press the button to use it, you got a limited time of a speed burst, kinda like the mushroom in Mario Kart, yet not that fast lol. Wired reflexes would drain your health though when you used it.

The Troll class used it a lot because it had the most health of the four classes. Dwarves would use it because they could get up on an enemy real fast and do CQC combat. You could combine it with teleport and get places much faster, it was amazing.

Speeds my game so that sounds radical. I've gotta check out Shadowrun.

Technicolor Spartans with poppy tune on mongooses for Halo 5 race power up. Make it happen 343.
I'm completely serious
I never knew I wanted this

So... The Halo 5 Beta is in less than 20 days and they still haven't said anything since the gameplay reveal... Are they going to delay the beta because of MCC?

If they bring it up, people will just shit on them for not focusing on MCC. Plus, what else can they announce?

The rest of the maps, weapons and gamemodes?
They should. They haven't even said how they are making it right for MCC owners. Actually, they haven't said much of anything,

Delaying the beta could hurt Halo 5 as that narrows the amount of time they have to make changes. Letting MCC negatively effect Halo 5 would be a bad decision on 343's part.
I sincerely doubt it. Separate teams so they shouldn't affect each other TOO much.

What I mean is that I'm afraid they'll delay it just because they don't want to put it out there while MCC is still broken.

Yeah, probably had internal discussions to basically go quiet while they fix these issues, and use Halo Waypoint/Twitter for all official explanations/announcements.

Going to be interesting to see the next patch and how it will improve. We're supposed to have gotten Spartan Ops soon as well, so I think they're going to have a major update soon, maybe they'll bring ranks/other playlists back in with that.

I want more ranked playlists. At least turn the ranking on for Team Slayer. Also, they need a dedicated Halo CE playlist soooo bad, ranked.

The rest of the maps, weapons and gamemodes?

And spend time on marketing a beta? We know the number of maps, we've seen the two game modes they're probably going to include, and they said the number of weapons (11 I think?) included in the beta. My guess is it'll be a lot of familiar precision/autos and a few power weapons. Not saying it wouldn't be fun to get a taste of what's coming, but I'm sure plenty of people are already planning on participating and 343 probably has that stuff fairly low on their list of priorities for good reason.

I don't see how delaying the beta will help MCC. Pretty sure they have separate teams on the two games and I think in the end it'll hurt Halo 5 if they decided to delay it. Also I really want to try it.

one quick question : can I play Halo2A campaign without fear of losing saved progress?

Been sitting on my copy but Xmas is coming and I'd like that campaign done and dusted before Halo 5 beta hits.
I've noticed yesterday that halo 2 finaly got a resume function, so it should work I think.

This got me thinking though, what if there were a forerunner hard light melee weapon that worked as a sword (not nevessarily one hit kill though) and had an alt fire that worked as a grapple or super cannon? If it were the super cannon it would use all of its ammo with one shot and would look like the coolest god damn thing you've ever seen.

Gonna get laughed at for this, but for many, many years, probably leading up to the Star Wars Episode 1 release, I thought the light sabres were actual beams of light...did not know they were metal bars they used for the fight scenes and then went back over it with the light in post-film editing.

Gonna try this game again tonight. Fingers crossed b o y s

I know it's frustrating but here are my things I do when the game doesn't work for matchmaking:

1. I do a hard reset of my Xbox One before playing
2. If the game boots me to main menu, I goto home screen and press start to quit out of the MCC and restart the game
3. If the game takes longer than 30 seconds to find players, I back out and restart the search
4. If anything hangs up in the game, I always do a hard reset of my Xbox One and try again

5. Turn of Xbox One & do something constructive.

Should probably copy paste most of this into the first post.

I didn't even know a lot of that stuff since I feel out of the franchise during H3, came back and dabbled in Reach a bit, and then didn't bother with H4. Wow. That's some grade A dishonesty and incompetency there.

I feel like such a sucker with having run out and purchased an Xbox One solely for this game right before launch. All I wanted was to be able to play Halo 2 online properly again with good playlists and the original ranking system like they promised. Guess that was too much to ask.
