Halo |OT 23| Thruster is Love, Thruster is Life

If you tell me I have to go through a mediocre progression system to reach the "good" part of your game, sorry you have some serious design problems. It was the case for vanilla Diablo III, it is the same case for Destiny. And sorry, I have a superior raiding game called World of Warcraft to play in the first place. And no, pre-raiding content in WoW is actually fun and not so repetitive.

Hardline wasn't DICE, it was a 3rd party cash grab death knell to the franchise. They've been busy working on Battlefront for a long while before that.

That wasn't DICE though.

Yeah Battlefront is being done by the main team. They are not going to fuck it up.

But I am telling you it's worth the slog. I think everyone owes it to themselves to give it a shot.

Look at Impala he hated the game now he's on its D trying to get raids together

The Vault of Glass was the most fun I've ever had in a coop shooter. Ever. I loved it so much I want every game to have a sort if hardcore endgame content like it.

It's fun the first time as you try to figure it out. It wasn't fun the next 10 times trying to get the armor which essentially gated me from playing the hard mode to drop. Noooooope

And their opinion is irrelevant.

It's like finishing Pillar of Autumn in Halo CE and complaining the game is too claustrophobic for your tastes and stopping there.
Well to be fair, when the only good part of the game is locked behind a level requirement and you also have to slog through a ridiculously dull campaign I think the gate is pretty fair.

It's more like playing through the entirety of Spartan Ops and finding the last few levels are actually pretty good. Doesn't make up for the mound of shit you had to climb first.

Some steelyuhas tier loot drops huh. Shame.

Yeah destinys progression system sucks and random loot will always be random.

They upped loot drop chances in Crota btw

The first time was legendary but I still have fun going back and raiding for shits and gifs. At that point you just enjoy the gameplay and design

Let's get one thing clear here though. Hate is a strong word. I was an outspoken critic of the game to be sure. Let's just say I was "painfully underwhelmed" with what was delivered.

My fiancée pretty much nailed it on the head in that, "you're only excited for this game because it's a Bungie game". What we got was a great shooter (mechanically) with a shallow RPG and loot system, but also fun/entertaining activities in the form of the raids. It's a solid game to be sure, but it's not the God-tier game I was secretly hoping for them to deliver.

I'm in a sweet first-class compartment of the Destiny hate train, and I raided.

It's a shit game.

How though? I agree with most that a lot is repetitive, story doesn't exist, and it can be grindy...but the shooting makes the game tons of fun. All the enemies are fun to fight, the guns are cool, and supers are awesome. Calling it a "shit game" is too harsh especially when nothing on a console comes close to offering the co-op experience destiny offers.

What didn't you like about the raids?

It's really not that bad. Play the campaign (which is underwhelming, but still things are fun too shoot), do a couple strikes and you'll be at level 20. Do a couple bounties, get some engrams, and you're on your way to raiding in the VoG. It really doesn't take super long.

People choose to grind the living shit out of the game and do the same strikes over and over again, and that's not fun. But I can't imagine any video game mission being fun if you did it 20 times in a row.

I raided for two straight months and think the game is very not fun. Something something loot tables...

I just don't like loot games or randomness. Back to Halo for me.

Yea loot sucks, can't really argue that. But I enjoy raiding just for the fun of it.

I'm completely with you on the campaign being dull. But I think a lot of those levels and strikes start to shine once you've built out your character more after raiding and what not. But Destiny's biggest flaw has always been that there just isn't enough of what they do give you, they prepare a cool drink and leave you thirstier than they should have. So I can sympathize with those that don't want to put in an unhealthy amount of hours like myself. Thing is, there really isn't anything else like it right now, as far as shooters go. And it's not like Bungie are done with building out the game. If you aren't into the game yet, I'd recommending waiting until the inevitable "GOTY" edition in Sept. Content issues should be mostly "solved" by then. I'm the kind of person who can play "pve" content 1000 times and not get bored from it though. I did it with Halo campaigns, and these bite sized missions are much more replayable in my opinion with the sandbox that destiny gives you. Not in every respect, and never to the heights of say Halo 3, but it's hard not to see the potential... Whether they act on that or not remains to be seen. What is there is fun - if you have the right group.

But... the game is like Animal Crossing. You can set your own goals to what you want to accomplish and chisel away at it here and there over a long period. Every time you turn the game on there's at least some kind of thing to work toward that will give you something else. It's quite the chill game, imo.

Raiding is fun the first time, its all new and crazy.

After that its kind of a steep slope to un-fun territory where you are just 'clearing' it for loot (which destiny hates to drop)

I'll check out HoW, and probably the Crota raid at some point, but it isn't enough for me to be playing it consistently. Maybe after the new crucible balance stuff goes in it might be slightly better? Everyone running around with snipes and shottys at the beginning of a match is kinda... eh.

The best way to deal with this (at least imo) is to try something new in the raid. Learn to use the relic, switch sides for confluxes, try to kill the templar without him teleporting, use different weapons, go into the portals if you don't usually, etc. Being the relic holder for both VoG and Crota's End is really really really fun.

Like I mentioned earlier, some people don't treat Destiny like a game they treat it like a job..."I have to finish all of my weekly checklist items to get my loot!"

shits not fun

I actually liked the raid just fine. But you can't cap off a shooter/ARPG with one good, or even great, level and salvage an overall shit experience. Yeah, the shooting was good, but it's buried under an entire pile of other systems.

My main complaints:

-Story. It was misrepresented badly prior to launch, but whatever, I could have gotten over that... if it just "didn't exist." But it does. It does exist, and it is awful. Easily the worst videogame story I've ever experienced, even when you stack it up against other MMOs (which it is not, stay tuned). Turrible writing, unskippable cutscenes and dialogue, the works. And, to top it off, you'll regularly have to replay those! Because...

-The Fucking Grind. Destiny doesn't have a progression system, so much as it has a casino. The goal here is to separate players from their time, and the house always wins. For reasons passing understanding, they went with the Diablo 3 "give them nothing but the grind" way of handing out loot, and topped it off with a giant pile of truly annoying currency systems. The announcement of how they're handling legendary upgrades in the expansion was the last straw. It's almost structured like an f2p game, in the way it makes the grind unbearable to try and get the player to spend money to speed things up, but there's no way to plug in cash, so the grind continues.

-The Anti-Social Social Shooter. Where to start. Every innovation MMOs have made since their inception in terms of enabling and improving player communication and creating a community is discarded. Guilds are a joke, they didn't even have voice chat with randoms in the beginning, no matchmaking in raids (yes, they option should be there, even if the experience does end up sucking). No player economy. The list goes on.

Yeah, it's a whole other deal when you actually do the important stuff that most people just ignore and let others carry them through. There's nothing like killing crota yourself with the sword and seeing others crying for joy at that Gjallarhorn drop because of you. I almost have more fun when other people get the loot they want.

My favorite is when I found out your weapons/armor don't gain experience to upgrade in the raid.

The grind is very real. One reason I don't know if I will get to the Crota raid, going from 28 to 30 will require some real amount of drops and even more grinding.

In other other game news, Metroid Prime Corruption on the Wii U actually looks pretty gorgeous so far. Metroid Prime was amazing, but wasn't as hard as I remember; although there is a new "hyper mode" difficulty that unlocks.

Still debating whether I should play Metroid on the Wii U or on Dolphin. Leaning more towards Dolphin because HD, etc.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8U_xc8fhLtE

Its like it was meant for VR.

The 3d projected Visor and the helmet, as well as the aiming being mostly decoupled from looking around seem almost ideal for playing in an HMD.
Plus the game is all about exploration and getting engrosed in the world, which is ostensibly what VR is good for, rather than twitch shooting.
The times you need to fight you dont really have to stress about aiming with the imprecision of the wiimotes since you have lock-on to help you.

I wouldn't be surprised if in a few years when samsungs got their 4k samoled note 5/6/7 +gearVR that dolphin will be able to run this full speed on android.

its gonna be glorious.

I'm assuming classic GC controller on the Dolphin also- I just can't wrap my brain around using motion controls for Metroid. I didn't play MP3 for that very reason.

You missed out, the pointer controls are excellent. I'd say they are far superior to the original GC controls.

The thing I most dislike about Destiny is that it's brought up repeatedly in threads not about Destiny with the same tired arguements we've heard for months.

I went on this crusade once. About HaloGAF OTs not being about Halo. I think it was a kylej OT, you know, the best ones. Wasn't worth the finger cramps though. There's no Halo here.

Since we're not talking about Halo, anyone else here ridiculously excited for the new Deus Ex?

Human Revolution is up there in my top ten games of all time, if by some miracle Mankind Divided comes out this year, H5 will have some serious competition for my favourite shooter of the year.

So pumped. Going to do another HR playthough, just trying to decide whether to dig out my 360 or just buy it on Steam.
