Even with and objective or more interesting maps I don't think Breakout will work well. The amount of aim assist and bullet magnetism means that precision rifle fights will end in simultaneous kills way too frequently like in SWAT or will be win by whoever has a better connection and SMG fights are a matter of who starts holding down the trigger first. There's not nearly enough people can do to out-aim people to make fights in a single elimination mode interesting enough. It's also why 1v2/3/4/5 are nigh impossible compared to CS. The flanking routes combined with the shooting skillgap and ability to instant headshot if you're good enough allows to clutch in situations where you're outnumbered which is not something you can do in Breakout.

I thought people said the aim assist in H5 was a great improvement over previous Halos. Was that not the case or was it still too much?
 
What would be wrong with just having pistol starts? I mean having secondaries found on map, ARs and BRs included. As long as the pistol was strong it would make people choose what secondary they wanna go for on map, just make sure the other weapons are always available throughout the map.
 
I agree with Over in regards to Breakout. While the aim-assist seems to have been lessened in 5 which helps, it's still too easy to aim and ends up feeling more 1 dimensional than both standard Halo or a game like CS where the recoil requires tons of feathering and accuracy. The way the gametype and maps are as of now (or the beta) I think it would actually be better to have a standard shield.

I still enjoyed Breakout, especially as a concept, but much prefer standard slayer at this point.
 
Once Josh starts having some classic moments, I'm sure we'll have some fun photoshops in his honor.

Oh I see. Sounds like CS is different kind of beast all together.

I guess there's not really any way to adapt Halo's gameplay to fit that.

Dont forget that CS has a huge amount of tactics to win against campers. Flashbangs, Smokes, Shooting through the edges of walls, etc - To me Breakout really felt like the team who was camping better (especially on the BR towers) got the win - Also the mode relied way to much to the person who got the BR for the team (it was annoying that all players run to the BR spawn every start of a round because BR > AR/Magnum in every situation in Beta). I'd prefer if that mode wouldnt have pickup weapons, so everyone has the same chances.

Actually, if aim assist was removed altogether in Breakout, the reduced shields would work quite well IMO.

Everyone says CS is soo hard...It's really not THAT hard to get good. Eventually you headshot everyone like it's some sort of point and click adventure game. Mouse vs. joystick is just incredibly different. I'm glad 343 is at least trying something new and unique to Halo. That is what counts.

Good points. Yea, watching everyone rush to the 1 br every round was hilarious. If you pick it up but die before getting a kill, your team is like twice as likely to lose.

not playing with randoms fixes that, just have a designated BR guy or rotate out if everyone just has to use it.

now the grenade pit, I just threw a nade or had our BR guy shoot them so they'd explode. If we couldn't have em no one could
 
AR starts are good in customs for leveling the playing field with friends where there is a wide skill spread. We've had some really fun games with decent size parties but it's quite clear there are the BR start crowd and the non-BR savvy folk.

AR starts have a place and can be fun but it's not straight up competitive, unless BRs are very scarce as pickups IMO.
 
In my defense, H5 AR starts is the only one I have enjoyed.

It'll definitely make it past 720p, but 1080p seems pretty unlikely. 900p or equivalent seems like the best bet, likely 1328x1080 since it worked well enough for H2A.

Yeah i hope so. That H2A solution looked really crisp to me. Even that it wasnt full 1080p. It depends on the AA solution too. H5 beta had a LOT of Aliasing and shimmer.

Honestly, me too. I never was one to be obsessed with 60FPS (probably because most games I played were 30 haha), but MCC finally changed that. It just feels right.

A high framerate is pointless when your image quality looks like shit. Image Quality is as important to me. And everything MP in MCC is 1080p. Yes H2A has some issues with fps, but all the other games are smooth 60fps.

I'm always down for every and any bit of behind the scenes information, even the bland stuff that's not particularly specific to any particular project.

I'm not sure how it's pointless, but I'm not at all going to say image quality is completely unimportant either. I'm just feel that between the two, solid performance is the more crucial.
