Halo |OT 24| In Before the Locke

I'm interested in comparing these two collectors editions after seeing on Game.co.uk they are the same price (£79.99)

I've never played Destiny and it's impossible to know the scope of Halo 5 itself, and so this isn't about which game has more/better content for the asking price. But on a presentation/graphic design point of view, the Destiny package looks so much more enticing.

Maybe the Halo Req stuff is all up in the air, but Destiny displays all the digital content and makes it look super sexy, whereas the Halo version is just a logo.

Again, after seeing they were both the same price, thought it was interesting to look at both packages.

It's $80 USD for the Destiny CE and $100 USD for the Halo 5 LE
and $250 for the Halo 5 CE lolnope

I have both on preorder but the destiny one has way more value for the price.

Agreed on the value for price thing, but I'm kinda pissed at Bungie right now, so I'm holding off.

Over what? They dropped the collectors content to $20 for digital buyers and people who already have the base game and DLC and don't want to rebuy. It's priced as it should have been from the start now.

$20 for a few items, some shaders and some emotes? That's definitely not how it should have been priced from the start.

Also the whole $40 = £40 thing is far more bullshit than the exclusive collectors edition stuff.

I'm jumping in with the legendary edition/standard taken king edition. Was waiting for the GoTY, what this basically is. I just hope the content doesn't feel like shit because everyone else has moved on or cheeses it.

Up here, there is a Halo 5 deluxe edition for $99 which basically just has the REQ packs. Don't know how important they're going to be in game for Warzone. If the mode plays good and they give a serious advantage and are a near chore to acquire, I can see possibly wanting to pay for them.

I'm not even getting the Halo limited edition this time, first time I'm not for the series. It's such a mediocre package. Look at Witcher 3 standard edition for example, you get a map, a cover sleeve, and a physical soundtrack included. I don't care at all for anything in the Halo 5 limited edition. Reach had such a great package, this is so disappointing. At least I saved a bunch of money. Step your game up 343. At least the game looks fun.

Just basically how they've treated their fanbase recently put me off on them, I'll need to see more of the TTK before I double dip.

$2 for each item, essentially. Totally fair.

Seriously?

It's the same price as the expansions; for a few items. It's ridiculously over priced, literally the third of the price of the full game. If they keep the insane price parity between $ and £ then it'll be the same amount as I paid for the full game.

Entirely optional stuff for the most dedicated of players. My whole clan and friends are getting that pack. I dunno, it's perceived value I guess, as Luke said.

Pathetically, I kind of want that model.

The "orders" stuff is so pointless, I'd much rather have a poster I could put up on my nerd wall than a few random cards. Animated series will be on Netflix in two months- I never even bothered to use my Halo 4 code for Forward Unto Dawn.

I'll probably wait for more details on the REQ stuff, that might be sort of fun, in a dumb broken kind of way.

How exactly is the temporal blur in Reach applied? Depending on the implantation, unless they went in and modified things 60fps wouldn't necessarily solve the ghosting issue.

It's a post-effect, so it can be removed as easily as adding the edge filter for Halo 3.

It'd be cool if a Collector's Edition actually came with, like, media relevant to the game but wasn't necessarily all exclusive to it - just at a better value. The FoR animated series (presumably a timed exclusive) is kind of what I'm talking about, but a steelbook Limited Edition with some dossiers, dog tags, tashi KD spreadsheets could make for the actual exclusivity stuff, while the LCE could have all of the novels we're getting leading up to H5G (maybe even early access on stuff like Last Light / Shadow of Intent), the soundtrack, FoR animated series, and so on.

Sticking to EU media stuff could also let you provide people with a digital LCE if they really wanted it, basically amounting to a Wesleyshark Edition for people who wanted to take a pounding from the entire EU relevant to the game + the game itself at a value better than hunting everything down individually. I know the licensing would be a nightmare, but still.

Later down the line (8-10 years), seeing a similar "digital LCE" that just had all the media loaded on a tablet or UNSC-branded Kindle would be cool.

The GTA V special edition for last gen was so pathetic. A couple of digital shirts for the characters, some tattoos, a useless in game slow blimp, a useless car, a temporary boost to special powers that was useless and a large blueprint map that was basically useless since they always give you a full city map as well. One of the first and only limited editions I've ever bought. The last one was Gears 2 where I even did an unboxing that got several thousand views since I was one of the first, it came with a picture of Dom and his wife, an art book that was French only for some reason, and I think a gold Lancer code? The steel books are usually the draw, but I've always disliked them. Just yesterday saw the Halo 4 limited edition at a local store, was only like $28.

Looks like MS is finally offering up retail XB1 titles on Games with Gold for next month. I noticed that most of them are from franchises with new entries coming soon, and it got me wondering if MCC might get put on GwG a month or two before H5 drops. Would really give the population a good boost, garner some hype for H5, and get the word out that they actually did fix the game (eventually, and mostly). I wouldn't be mad, even though I bought the game on day one at full price.

Oh shit, AC4? I'll jump the fuck on that one,too bad I'll be on vaca early in the month so I won't have time to play it.

So I just bought an xbox one in preparation for Halo 5. How is MCC doing now a days? I got two other buddies to join me in this journey, I hope we can play together with minimal hitch.

Me and Mix were playing for a good 4 hours last night, and we only had one crash to the lobby when a game was loading, so for us pretty good.

Anything more than 2 players and matchmaking is going to take a littl longer, though.

Maybe, but you'd think getting the game for free with an XB1 + people who already had an XB1 would be the sizable chunk of the Venn Diagram of people who want to play that game.

On a related note, playing full customs with HBO and Gaffers last night worked great, save for host switching in lobbies. And yeah, the team-switching was weirdly buried (why is it in the roster but not in the lobby display?)

Halsey's Journal was gud. Even though the game had some questionable stuff, I don't regret getting the Reach Legendary Edition and the LE Reach 360. I needed a new 360 at the time anyways and now the console and the LE (the ONI black box, not the hugeass legendary crate) are both nice little keepsakes I don't mind keeping on display, and I'm typically not the type to enjoy showcasing copious amounts of nerd paraphernalia. The Noble Team statue is still locked up in the Legendary crate though, lol.

$150 for a Legendary Limited Bad Kid Edition is probably the farthest I'll ever go, and even then I'm pretty sure I just lucked out with the Reach LE actually having stuff I considered to be worth it. Halsey's Journal was borderline quintessential at the time in paving the way for some of the bigger concepts that got thrown at us come the 343 takeover.

So, less to lose by giving it away to subscribers because most people that would buy it already did

I needed that helmet fire, and the statue is a good place to store my dust collection.

You're still spending the same amount for a few items as you did for the expansions which included a few items, new maps, some quests, new modes etc.

I just can't see how anyone could perceive that as good value for money. Seems crazy to me. The only reason it's only for the most dedicated players is because they prices it so far out of the range for everyone else.

To be fair, I've never bought a collector's edition of anything though.

I can't see them ever making the entirety of the MCC free. At most I could see them making a portion of it free.

Also the X1 had Rayman Legends which is a retail game.

Was fine for me last night, though H2A players seem to quit if Remnant wins the vote. Remnant's been playing fine for me performance wise though.

Otherwise, same old randoms gonna random. Thankfully, ours (Bandido) was more carry-able than theirs (seedless) this time:

Wesley, you're wrong here. If Bungie really cared about giving an olive branch to fans, said package should cost like $5 USD, tops. But Daddy Activision signs their checks now, I highly doubt Bungie had much real say in the matter. They took a legitimate complaint from fans and turned it into a way to make even MORE money that they're banking on most people to just pony up.

First page post from gaming side nailed it:

Each day I'm becoming more convince that Destiny is a big experiment seeing how much they can charge for how little content.

Do me a favor and load up the real-money WoW mount and pet stores. Or take a look at Dota arcana prices. Or skins for League.

Vanity items are going to be as vanity items have always been - yes, it's crazy. It's also aimed at crazy people.

Meh... Again... Perceived value. I find that content to be totally worth the $20. I said elsewhere that it's basically a couple pizzas and some breadsticks... No biggie. Gladly spent.

I think blaming Activision for these moves are kind of warranted, but bungie isn't dumb. They knew what they were doing when they made a deal with Activision. They want money just as much as much as Activision so I don't understand blaming just Activision for the pricing.

Halo.

Have we heard if extraction is going to be in H5? It's a really good mode in H4.

Would you say those 10 items are worth the same amount as The Dark Below or The House of Wolves though?

Also if you look at the entire content of the Taken King collectors edition, you get the entire game, every expansion and a bunch of physical stuff as well as the emotes and items. Do you really think that the emotes etc. are a quarter of the value for the collectors edition?

I will add I think the collectors edition looks like excellent value. Especially considering they're charging 40 for the taken king on its own.

Which is why I have the physical CE preordered :p

The digital CE alone though... I'd be okay with buying it with the TTK if it weren't for how jam-packed the physical CE is. I think $20 for exclusive items is just fine. But it's moot for me anyway as I'm getting the whole CE.

To each their own, I'd have to see what they're offering with it, but first impressions aren't selling it to me. Paying for cosmetic items isn't a new thing in the gaming industry by a long shot, but what seems egregious to me is that they seem to be using the F2P pay scheme on a game that ISN'T F2P and cost a full $60 retail at launch.

Halo.

Yeah, you're right about this.

On that note I'm glad that some of my most favorite Bungie folks aren't even with them anymore.

Marcus Lehto
Alex Seropian
Hardy LaBel
Jaime Griesemer
Max Hoberman

And of course the triumvirate of Frankie, Marty and Joe Staten.

Hey nerds, just letting you know that the next episode of Reclaimer Radio is up on our site.

We're discussing the E3 campaign demo, it's implications on lore, a breakdown of Warzone, and Gringo's inability to pronounce the word "Permanent".

"The slightly belated one-year-anniversary podcast for Reclaimer Radio! Join the gang sans Ghazi as they discuss the Halo 5: Guardians media blowout at E3 2015, including the Campaign demo, lore repercussions, Warzone and Arena details, and GameStop plugs."

Whoops, Wang is still with Bungie I guess... I swear I remember him leaving along with Lehto not long after Reach early in Destiny's dev cycle.

Not sure about McLees... I guess I had just assumed he was gone too after not hearing much about him. I admittedly have not followed Bungie's art-side of things since Reach so I apologize about bad info.

Everyone else listed is FOR SURE not there any longer though.

When did Lorraine leave Bungie? But yeah, that's just the way it is. Bungie underwent massive change. Grew to be such a large studio as well, it's become very corporate, lost that ground up, in the trenches style of studio it was. What does it even mean to be a grizzled ancient anymore? Brian Jarrard was another notable departure.

This tweet is still hilarious to me. Both of them have founded Highwire Games at least. Imagine if they get some other Bungie guys together.

Just checked LinkedIn for confirmation and both of the McLees are still employed at Bungie, so again apologies about the bad info.

Jarrard was another one too. Anyone know what happened to Chris Carney while we're at it?

Halopedia says Robert left Bungie in 2012.

There seems to have been some confusion back then as to if he left or not.

Weird because his LinkedIn Profile says he's still there. I suppose it's possible that he just hasn't updated that in years though, lol.

For those not in the know, McLees along with Eric Arroyo were the original concept artists behind the Flood. Some of that artwork is absolutely grotesque in the most fantastic way possible.
