Semi-power weapon like the Needler or SAW. It's purpose isn't to rack up kills like a full power weapon like the Rocket, Sniper, or Shotgun. And I don't even know what you're rambling on about it having a single clip.
The long range counter is the sniper. The long range counter to every weapon is the sniper. The DMR is countered by teamwork. Yep. Just like every other semi-power weapon. A 1 on 1 against a competent player using the Needler will result in the Needler user winning. A 1 on 1 encounter against a SAW user will result in the SAW user winning. Guess what? The DMR is the same way.
Come at me with a BR. I will dong upon you at any range with my DMR all day until I run out of ammo, which is surprisingly more than 1 clip.
And if you're bringing host/offhost into this, anything can happen. You might get a Halo 3 bloodshot, you might be teleporting like crazy.
And again I don't even know or understand what the last paragraph is rambling about.
I had more written out, but I think I'm gonna save that for another post on sandbox design.
1. Sure if they give the DMR pick up max ammo but usually pick ups are half ammo, so the potential kills are a lot less than that of say a sniper pick up.
2. The saw or needler will not counter a DMR at long range, no way.
3. If you're at close range the DMR is more often than not beaten by the AR, BR, needler, saw, shotgun, bolt shot, pp bursts and melee, grenade and melee...blah blah.
4. At mid to long range the DMR will win over a BR but at close range a competent BR user will beat a competent DMR user. At mid range the needler is a mixed bag vs. the DMR but a long range the needler rarely stands a chance. Same goes for the saw as the needler.
My points being that the DMR is more or less fine where it is in the sandbox. If the Carbine & Light Rifle were both made hitscan instead of progressive based weapons then we would see a larger variety of those weapons being used with online multiplayer and therefore the DMR wouldn't be the powerhouse that it is for the most part. For the record I actually like the DMR in this sandbox.
Only the BR & DMR are precision weapons with hitscan implemented. If your DMR is winning at all ranges I suspect you have host or a regular party where you are close to the host and therefore have highly effective DMR hit detection/damage as well as always being within host latency usurping what is going on in game. I'm not trying to say you're not skilled but just highlighting there are wide ranging results based on locality of players in game and what weapons they choose to use as well as the results from the host accepting or rejecting such happenings.
If I know my party has gotten host then I'll try the light rifle for example but more often than not US players have host so I'm forced to use hitscan based weapons. This is still a lopsided confrontation but I understand that when playing online.
To me close range weapons do their job at close range. Mid range weapons are mixed between true mid range weapons and long range weapons. Long range weapons are great at their full long range and do mix into mid range as well. Overall it's not like the DMR is going to beat a bolt shot at close range or the saw is going to beat a DMR at long range so I really don't get all the DMR hate. Maybe it could have a slight nerf but then the BR would become the dominant weapon.
I think making all 4 precision weapons hitscan would result in more variety for online play rather than just picking the BR or DMR as the dominant one.
