"We decided to focus this next map pack on smaller, more 4v4 based gametypes. We knew that players LOVE complex so we thought that would be a good size to use on these new maps!"

Appendectomy:
This map features straight narrow lines of sights through a industrial complex (AKA GREY) the map is asymetrically symetrical and can be used for Slayer or 1flag (NEW GAMETYPE THAT WAS HELD BACK EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ALREADY DONE) the map size is small contains nine vehicles and is suitable for 12-18 players.

On the ground or in an ordnance drop? I don't think the base resupply ordnance is supposed to disappear, but I may be totally wrong. If it was on the ground, that's just the normal, ridiculously short despawn timer. I think it's something like 12 seconds.

In Dominion the weapon resupply drops are on a timer. If you don't grab them in a set time limit they despawn. I haven't played Dominion in awhile, but off the top of my head I recall that resupplies happen every 40 seconds and weapons despawn at 30 seconds (or 10 seconds before a resupply if I'm mistaken on how long the resupply timer is).

Granted I haven't played the gametype in awhile, so that might have changed, but that's what I recall from the earlier days when I bounced back and forth between BTB and Dominion.

Seems interesting to me, I'd speculate some possible features from this could be:

1. Home automation through your xbox, smartglass, mobile/tablet e.g control your home security, lighting etc.

2. In game streaming to other devices or web apps.

3. YouTube rendering from the stream.

4. Wii U style handheld screen features.

5. Remote gaming.

6. Gaming cloud services e.g. iCloud.

7. Xbox live spin off service similar to On Live.

For awhile there I was wondering if the reason why this generation was lasting so long was because Microsoft wanted to build a sort of distributed computing grid to stream games to the 360, or a new device, like how Onlive worked. It seemed sort of in line with their whole devices and services mantra. I didn't get to far as to think about any of the finer details, but I wouldn't be surprised if something happens on this front in the relatively near future. At least some time this up coming generation.

Still, it would certainly be something if Microsoft turned the 360 into a thin client. Massive install-base and subscriber base for Xbox Live. They could go totally sub-model to "turn your 360 into a 720". Have devs focus on developing toward a "logical spec" that is in line with "next-gen" hardware. Microsoft would take care of the details, anyway. ;)

I can see things going that way but with FPS console games providing so much revenue and being sensitive to latency I don't see it next generation. It may be introduced next gen but I'd wager it won't be popular until global fibre and some serious latency improvements are a reality.

I've seen some whitepapers and articles over recent years about this and I think the consensus is the Internet latency is too great still. So for now that leaves us with add-on services like device streaming, rendering, device sharing, more expansion through home utilities (like automation, security, home entertainment etc).

EDIT- apologises if seen already as I'm sure many have but a friend emailed this to me and I had to watch it again, too funny.

Well, they look interesting nonetheless:

Landfall
H4_Landfall_Concept_Art.jpg

"Landfall's emphasis is on infantry battles against a glittering ocean on a distant world."

Monolith
H4_Monolith_Concept_Art.jpg

"Monolith exposes you to the naked vacuum of space - and the firepower of opposing teams."

Skyline
H4_Skyline_Concept_Art.jpg

"Skyline's distinct industrial feel provides new challenges in somewhat familiar, but occasionally confined spaces." (Remake?)

Oh I'm totally aware of the latency issue. It was more a pipe-dream. In my country, that would pretty much destroy bandwidth caps. If it were possible, though, that would be such an awesome move by them. When I say I mean that we may see something on that front in the relatively near future, I mean some type of cloud-based distributed computing service for Xbox, like those you mention. There are some types of experiences that can make sense under that model, though, I think, and if Sony keeps it up this gen with Playstation+, I think we'll likely see Microsoft re-evaluate the value proposition of Xbox Live. That's been their biggest criticism for a while now, but no one had a compelling competitor until Sony came up with that.

Played Halo 4 for the first time in over a month today. An IRL friend said he would be online to play a few games. He never showed, but I was treated to 3 games of the same experience I had so many weeks ago.

Game one my team starts with only 4 players vs. a team of 5. JIP never gives us a 5th teammate. Not fun.

Game two I get JiP'd into a game that my team is already winning by a score of 90-something to 14 (oddball). We win big and I hardly see any opponents. Not fun.

Game three I decide to switch it up and join the Team Regicide playlist. The game is a laggy mess with rubberbanding everywhere and crazy weird network weirdness going on. Not fun.

Turned off Xbox, decided not to wait for my friend any longer. Even if he did show up, why would I want to subject him to more of that?

Checking out Dominion. Confused how power weapons start spawning. At one point a map was full of Incineration Canons and Binary Rifles. ???

I don't think I'd mind Dominion if it wasn't for that incredibly stupid power weapon spawns. It's literally fiesta 6v6.

RIP in peace this thread having anything to say...well, I guess that could also mean this game isn't very good. I haven't touched it in weeks, even changed ma damn avatar. I may check it out after all the maps come out as I bought the fucking Limited Edition.

You know, that's pretty much how'd I'd define Infinity multiplayer right now. It's basically a slightly more controlled, or perhaps deliberate version of Fiesta. Now, I DO find it fun to play, as long as I have some people to play with, but my main issue is the variety. I'd like a few different types of playlists that don't have as much randomness.

The game can play VERY well with stricter, more legacy settings, as MLG's V1 has shown. They just need to fill out a couple more options, and some smaller maps. And Doubles. And BTB Objective. And Grifball. And Hardcore. And Squad Battle. And Classic. And Snipers. And Extraction. And the REALLY, and I mean REALLY good Forge maps in Matchmaking, like 2 per playlist tops. I've got a little diagram cooking up to better describe it.

I'm worried and excited that Skyline will be the best map in the entire game.

It certainly sounds compelling, what with the familiar confined spaces, and the setting/atmosphere. I wonder if familiar just refers to a familiar locale in the canon that we've visited. Landfall sounds cool, too. For some reason as soon as I saw that image I thought of an open-air The Pit, with a huge ocean on the side where the fence would normally be. I mostly doubt that it is a remake, though. That one's gotta be all new. Only bit I'm curious about is whether or not this map pack has the small maps, or the next one - or split between the two.

I hope one of these DLC's has a remake. I know 343 is trying to make a name of their own, but a remake here and there is always good because it gives everyone something to be excited about rather than maps we've never played.

With no file share, no MLG tournament news, and bad playlist options, they need all they can get right now. Game's growing stale.

Something I've always envied CoD for is that the DLC has 5 maps. I'd like 5 maps for $15, with 1 being a remake. Adding only 3 each time just isn't enough variety for $10, in my opinion.

I dunno. So much of what old maps were to me was weapon control, and with that as diminished as it is I don't know that I'd want to see a beloved map return and be marred by what I consider to be inferior structural elements. My memories of Beaver Creek wouldn't be nearly as fond as they are if I didn't associate it with timing rockets and OS, making that push every couple of minutes. People loved Valhalla, but Global Ordnance just caused a Ragnarok game where 5 separate people on the map had snipers or binary rifles in a CTF game.

I like a lot of those old maps, but it's hard for me to think of any that would work well with a lot of Halo 4's mechanics (especially considering that with the gametypes we have, they're either limited to symmetrical maps or we're gonna have a bad time playing 2 Flag CTF on Ivory Tower).

Global Ordnance should get a revisiting. I haven't found it's made Valhalla play all that much worse for CTF, though, but certainly on other maps I've found it very frustrating.

Small maps from Halo 1-3 definitely won't work. Though, I think maps like Terminal, Rat's Nest, and Sandtrap would fit well.

Spiritual successors maybe. I don't care. I just want to be happy again okay!

For me I think with anniversary we had more than enough remakes. Let's get on with fresh content or new maps inspired by old ones.

I'm not convinced. Anniversary were the best maps in Reach, in my opinion. I especially loved Headlong and the additions they made to it, too. The lifts are perfect, and the side hallways!

I maintain that a remake here or there is great fun. Anniversary was a special case of a lot at once, but again I thought they were the best. I'd love to see one or two from Halo 3, or perhaps Halo 2 return some day.

That or some serious spiritual successors. If they're gonna stick to big maps, show me a re-imagination of the greats, like Sidewinder.

AND COVENANT MAPS!

Not sure if this was posted at some point, but this looks like an excellent BTB Forge map, kinda like Asphalt from Reach's forge maps, but way nicer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIrseUbTh8k&feature=player_embedded

Slight edits*

Oh you have no idea.

One of the glaring things I see between Bungie maps and 343i maps is the rule of 3 that used to be in Bungie ViDocs years ago. The multiplayer map designers used to say you could attack or defend 2 out of 3 positions and they always tried to keep those lines of sight and entry points within that range.

I feel like Halo 4 maps are too big for the most part, if they were reduced in overall usable size while keeping the ol' Bungie rule of 3 going we'd be a lot happier with the game experiences.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. It's just sad that some of the better maps weren't original from the game itself, but from past iterations.

You're new.

Tell us about yourself.

Nobody ever asked me to do anything like that even though I only felt like I had something worth saying after Halo 4 came out.

:(

Anyway, I would like to know who this Toa TAK fellow is as well.

So go on Toa. Post a gif that represents your personality and tastes. Also it has to be boobs.

It's ok.

I won't.

Today.

btw, anyone actually hyped for this pokemon announcement? I don't even have a 3DS and I plan on staying up to watch it.

I don't have a 3DS either. But I loved Black and White (didn't get the second one). If it's good enough or a R/S/E remake, I'll be getting a 3DS for it.

LTTP here, I know, but if I saw even a suggestion that some elements of the above recommendations were about to be implemented (plus what I view as the mandatory balancing of the weapon sandbox) I might even buy this game.

Gives you an idea of where I'm at in terms of my current approach to what I view as the most comprehensively broken game in this franchise.

It could be redeemed. I still think there's a shiny game hidden beneath a veil of questionable (to say the least) design decisions. Playlist management needs a serious buff, for starters.

Halo 4 hit a new record low tonight 90883.

Also a new hourly low. At one point 7153 people were online in MP.

Meanwhile, earlier today, one Ninja brought in over 4000 concurrent people watching a Gamebattles tournament on Twitch with no fancy extras save for his antics. One dude.

It's ok.

I won't.

Yep. Pokémon is quite popular amongst my group of friends. Though, there's only one franchise I love more than Halo, and that's Zelda. Edit: scratch that, I like Elder Scrolls, too, just Skyrim less than usual.
