Halo |OT14| They call it Halo

The only piece of music I really liked in this game was the credit music. Where it played a Never Forget remix and then switched to 117. It worked so well with the emotional ending.

I highly credit that being good though to them using Never Forget, one of the best pieces of work in any Halo game.

HaloGAF, question. What's your favorite/favorites music from the Halo sountrack?

Mine is either Finale from Halo 3:ODST. Or Deference for Darkness from ODST as well.

I really do think ODST had the best soundtrack in the franchise.

Lone Wolf was the best from Reach.

One Final Effort was the best from 3.

I don't really have a favorite from Halo 1 or 2, I kind of take them as a whole.

ODST has so many amazing standouts.

Everytime I hear ODST music it hurts knowing I traded it in..but I can always listen to it. I think ODST had the best overall atmostphere = setting + music + direction.

Worst question ever. :( I can never decide. Seriously dude, this post can easily become a book on Halo's best songs.

But for the sake of an answer, Halo 2 is my favorite soundtrack overall, with Epilogue probably being one of my favorite tracks.

Hey there!

Hi there. I love talking music.

Hello to you two, as well.

I'm in a mindset where I don't feel like I'm adept enough at music theory to really talk too much about it outside of the surface level "I like this sound" "I think this song is better" statements, but every time I think about Davidge's contributions to Halo, I get stuck in thinking "oh, it doesn't sound very Halo to me" which sounds a touch too close minded but it's hard to be accepting when I think the music is just so very different (or at least I think so) from what Marty had been bringing in for years now.

HaloGAF, question. What's your favorite/favorites music from the Halo sountrack?

Deference for Darkness, like you said, is probably one of my favorite tracks from the series, but I'd have to offer either the first verse(if that's the right word?) of Sacred Icon Suite or Leonidas from Halo 2. The Leonidas version of On A Pale Horse is just so good and it gets stuck in my head long after I hear it. The last section of it just shoots chills through me and marching up to Regret while it's playing just riles me up for that fight.

Played some Halo. Heard some strange noises. 20 minutes later I noticed everybody in my small city (300k) was tweeting about gunshots that ocurred and are still ocurring.

I must say, even though I rarely joke about it, the people involved on this should think they're playing Call of Duty in real life, they have easily wasted like $1500 USD in ammo.

Now, I'm going to play Assassin Creed 3, I'm enjoying it, even with some problems with the horizontal movement. Why were people dissapointed with the game? (without spoilers)

Never forget from Halo 2 is my favorite song in any video game. It also carries a lot of nostalgia.

Sacred Icon Suite 2 is also on that list of "best Halo songs", but a certain someone already posted that. I gotta say, that song really made the Defiant Map Pack trailer awesome. I remember getting really hyped for it.

I also love all of ODST's soundtrack. So, so good. Oh yeah, the game was awesome too.

Something about the buggy gameplay, boring assassin and America, and boring story.

That's basically what I've been able to chalk up. I love ACIII so damn much.

*reads thread*

I don't know whether to buy H4 or not.

Murder Miners is fun, though.

You should have jumped on it when it was $39.99 all December. It's $45 new at Amazon if you want.

I don't know if I can accurately tell you if you should buy Halo 4 or not. Depends on what kind of Halo fan you are. Do you just play it for the campaign? Do you not care the multiplayer sticking true to the original Halo formula? Do you not mind having a broken File Sharing system, and having a severe lack of custom game options?

If the answers to all (or most of them) are yes, just go ahead and get it. It's a good game, it's really high quality, I just think it's an awful Halo game that isn't very Halo like.

Trying to get some Halo 2 Vista Achievements (namely the map and gametype ones). Surprisingly there are quite a few people doing the same and I managed to get in a lobby of 16 who went through most of them.

Far too many maps and gametypes though. Kinda lost on which ones I've done and which ones I haven't. eh

I remember when I first booted Halo CE for the first time.

That menu alone had me hooked.

Halo CE and Halo 2.

Those games has some of the most impacting first booting. Halo 2 was a bit unexpected...

edit: This Firefight in my city is starting to freaking me out; it's getting really really ridiculous 1 hour and half of duration, and still going, it seems that's like the one that lasted 6 hours (and make its way to national news in TV) with police chasing bad guys to a house that they used as a safehouse, and trying to take them down from the distance. The difference this time, is they're shooting a lot more and much more frequent. Thinking about going to sleep better than keep hearing them....

My favorites:

Halo CE: Rock Anthem For Saving The World > Perilous Journey = Under Cover of Night > The Gun Pointed At The Head Of The Universe = Perchance to Dream > The Library Suite

Halo 2: Reclaimer tied with Mombasa Suite - Broken Gates > Sacred Icon Suite - Cortege > High Charity Suite - Respite / Antediluvia

Halo 3: The Covenant - Heroes Also Fall > Halo - Finale > Halo - Halo Reborn > Floodgate - Follow Our Brothers > The Covenant - Ascent > The Storm - This Is The Hour

Halo Wars: No idea. Probably Freaked Out.

Halo 3 ODST: Too many to make a hierarchy.
The Rookie - Strong Silent Type
More Than His Share - Become the Hunted
The Menagerie - On The Prowl
Asphalt and Ablution - Still Grounded
Traffic Jam - Street Sweeper
Neon Night - Where One Road Ends / Pounding the Pavement (it actually has the same percussion as Halo Reach's menu track Swift, Strong, Brave even though it came out first! Fun fact.)
Bits and Pieces - Something Like Sorrow
Skyline: Love at Long Range / Air Traffic Control
No Stone Unturned: Cast Aside
Finale: Orbital Drop Shock Trooper / Reborn Relic
Bolded are my favorite favorites. Hey, Marty isn't all bad. :lol

Halo Legends: Sacred Icon Suite 2

Halo Reach: Swift, Strong, Brave / The Battle Begins / Lone Wolf / Sword Control / Inbound Imminent / Fall From Grace (no, not War Machine :lol) / Through The Rock / Lone Wolf: Spartans Never Die, Omega
It's too bad Reach's OST peaked on the first few missions. Definitely a few hidden gems though.

Halo Anniversary: Arborea Above = Dewey Decimate > First Step > Rock In a Hard Place = Cloaked In Blackness > Pale Rider (dem fiddles!)

Halo 4: Legacy > Nemesis > Desecration

And so, the ozzy era comes to an end. He will be missed (by someone, maybe.)

I had a lot of fun playing Halo 4 tonight. The game's flaws are as bad as ever, but tonight I was able to look past them and have fun. So yay.

The backdrop of Solace is gorgeous.

Jetpacks are fucking terrible.

Marty is a musical god. An anti-abortion douche, but a musical god.

That's been affecting every Halo community. With MLG gone and 343 being so vague on details, there really isn't that much to have discussion about, so arguments go on repeat for weeks. It's no one's fault really and I find it odd that some are implying it's HaloGAF specifically, but it's everywhere. This has been going on since we noticed the lack of support in Reach and the only thing driving the Halo community was the hype of the Reach TU, Halo 4, and the limited time of post-TU MLG Reach.

Like you said, the map packs help and hopefully SpOps will bring some new life to the mode, but other than that, with the lack of sharing gametypes/maps easily like before and 343 hardly giving us details besides rotational playlists, everywhere has been very dull in discussion and I don't see that changing unless the TU makes a huge difference.

Yeah I have to say I agree with the bolded. Sure the level of negativity has gone up - but that's only because the quality of halo has dropped significantly. It's hard to find the kind of optimism that existed around 2007 - sure people could be less dickish about it - but even some the guys who post with a positive slant towards the game don't exactly do it in a good manner.

I suppose if all the guys with negative opinions stopped posting overnight the place would be more bare able - but those guys have been fans of the franchise for a LONG time - and they have a right to complain. I suppose the manner in which they complain could be handled better - but they have a right to be negative.

Last weeks bulletin has given me hope for positive change - and I doubt frankie would have been so honest if the tone on the net wasn't so critical. If it means things change it's a good thing.

at Shannon Airport. Moving to Aus right now.
Xand that deserves a post!
Make it a Kanye or Jay Z quote!
Wasn't I a good king?

Shit really is the end of an era - keep us in the loop with how things turn out man.

Wanted to make a joke about how soon enough you will have a throne out there - but too depressed that you're bailing. It was good times.

I'm really hoping for some solid variety in Spartan Ops. I don't care so much if they reuse levels, just not the exact same ones over and over again. There were so many possibilities and we didn't see 10% of them.

Hope they can deliver. My expectations are much more in line with reality this time round though.

I just lament the fact there is no chanting monks in the game except maybe 2 seconds worth during the campaign. I get 343 wants to make it their own, but the monks really make Halo feel like Halo.

Instead of the new tribal wail at the start of the menu, would it have been so bad to have the monks chanting there? If only a nod to fans.

I mean they used them for the halo 4 reveal trailer, why not here? Or was it Davidge who didn't want anything old to be there?

That's basically what I've been able to chalk up. I love ACIII so damn much.

It's literally a step back from Assassin's Creed II in every single way.

It's a visual mess, full of glitches... and consists of terribly linear and scripted missions. Not to mention that there are cutscenes every 10 seconds and the game has a framerate of like 20 on consoles.

Ooh, and I almost forgot about the over simplified controls and the 4 hour intro with a character that was more interesting than the 'Assassin'. Plus a campaign which focuses on any and everything other than actually assassinating people (You literally play hide and seek in a mission. Like what the hell Ubisoft) and things like crafting and trading that aren't explained to the player once throughout the entire game and are ultimately worthless and overly complicated anyway.

Bit of an off topic rant, but I could definitely go on if I wanted to. Game was a huge disappointment... and that's coming from someone who enjoyed ACI - at least that game had an interesting story.

You get a hardlight shield at that area?

Damn Im bad. Im like the campaign kind of guy for Halo games, I usually know everything :c
See that thing in front of the Chief?

You can pick up a Hardlight Shield there before heading out to the bridge. Also, if you step onto the lift, then go back, let the lift go down, then jump off, Cortana will say something along the lines of "couldn't you have just taken the lift?" It's cute.

Anyone ever notice the 'exposed spine' motif of Halo 4's character design? Every character has an element of their design that calls out their spine.

Setting up for the reveal that Dead Space and Halo take place in the same universe.

Also MGSR Revengeance.

Speaking of dead space I just played the dead space 3 demo and really enjoyed it.
Feels a bit like ME2 in terms of combat. Cant remember how DS1 felt but it was much more stiff I believe.

DS3 kind of pushes towards the action more and less the horror which is fine by me.

Things like the Forerunner symbol thing in the Cartographer room, "Would it have killed you to take the elevator," and the radio stuff at the beginning of the mission gave me the impression that there would be a bunch of moments like that where you could explore the levels and find little things the Chief and Cortana would talk about, but that pretty much stopped right away. It's a shame, that would have been a nice way to encourage exploration and trying different things.

But Dead Space games are horror games. I'm not that happy with the direction of Dead Space 3. Both the setting and the gameplay seem less fun than its prequels.

That is my favorite thing in video games. The moment the game acknowledges something dumb or mundane the player does, I instantly like the game more. That moment in particular reminds me of Halo 2's "You...don't want the tank? Okay...we'll leave it for the others," moment on Delta Halo. I wish it happened more often in Halo games.

Also, a daily challenge yesterday:

In the Back - 1400 XP
Assassinate 3 players.

A daily challenge today:

Drop Bears! - 2750 XP
Assassinate 3 players in a single match.

Why?

That's never happened to me. I've played through that level like 6 times and jumped down each time too. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong..

Yep I agree, but even Dead Space 2 was less of a horror game than the first.

But yes the controls are more conformtable IMO
