I wasn't making that reply about the same engine, regardless of the engine used those points stand as valid. It's the online portion vs. LAN that Fyre points out so detailed. It's the reason Bungie/343i alter the mechanics/sandbox/melee with every game iteration or patch.
I think Frankie's first post in your thread puts the most eloquent light on the issue and gives us all hope with dedis involved for HX1.
It's like at the end of the halo match in those few seconds after the game ends, we all turn on each other and shoot our own to death. New game details arrive and we form a team again...only to then turn on each other again. It's a vicious cycle but we love it all the same

So a single shot precision weapon/rifle wouldn't have worked in Halo 2 or 3 that functioned like the CE Pistol but was maybe a 4sk instead?
Bungie intentionally made the BR to be inconsistent to combat the role of a utility weapon, not because of the technicalities of the engine being lockstep, etc. They hated the idea of using one weapon in multiple roles, so instead of making the other weapons useful by giving them specific traits (ie: Plasma stun), they focused on making the most used weapon crap in an attempt to increase usage around the rest of the sandbox. Backwards game design IMO that only lead to stale gameplay.

Halo trickers deserve Holiday cards. Most are extremely dedicated to Halo and have months on record in campaign for every game.

It could have, I'm not a BR-one-gun-to-rule-them-all sort of a guy, so I'd be game for it. I love Halo 2 & 3 the most of all Halo multiplayer games but I prefer the DMR to the BR, precision one shot FTW. I thoroughly enjoyed 3's BR leading mechanic but I disliked the lack of hitscan and the bullet spread was unpredictable at times too. Why they ever took out Plasma stun is beyond me, perhaps it just doesn't work online? Add all the usual suspect removals to that WTF list...melee ducking, sword dodge, ghost fuel tank 1SK, grenade jumping, quick weapon switching etc.
I found it strange in Reach Bungie didn't have the BR/DMR go toe to toe. We had to wait for 343i's Halo 4 to really get a range of precision weapons going against each other.
What would you say about the turbo updates requires tweaking to get your precision 1 shot where you want it? e.g. DMR.
The light rifle is a great concept and go between weapon too, I used it all the time in campaign but find I never use it multi.
+1 for each so I give you 9 out 10. Good stuffs.

People tend to get annoyed when their arguments are constantly misrepresented and then proceed to get shit on by everyone. I'm actually surprised he didn't go further like others and call people words like "fuckwit". It's funny because he has been posting the same shit for years (even to my slight annoyance) yet people still don't know or care for what he's talking about and still proceed to attack him. You even admit that you "don't care" so why even bother commenting when you have no clue why he'd post something like that? Regarding posts directed towards him: aside from Karl and Ozzy's posts, all I've seen from nearly everyone else is constant jabs and clique mentality. I find it utterly pathetic that shutting down one guy who largely stands alone in his opinions is a cause for celebration. Yeah, what the HaloGAF OP really needs is OddOne's fancy frame of Karl's post. You guys are all better than that.

Two things: 1) My bad if I sound like a broken record, but you can understand the disappointment when you see people posting the same ignorant nonsense for years and still, even to this day when there are tons of breakdowns (posts, videos, etc.) explaining these things in great detail, refuse to open their minds to what CE was. 2) Karl dropped more insults in that one post than these few fools combined, so he's not innocent here.

-I don't think I've ever seen anyone in this thread claim that a small, concentrated sandbox with unique weapons in each role would not work nor have I seen anyone say the CE pistol took no skill. Everyone here knows Halo pretty damn well. I dunno how well a game identical to CE would fare in the modern FPS market but I'd be okay with it (although I understand funk's point is not to port CE to the Xbox One)
-Halo 2 is not the biggest disappointment ever and 3 or Reach with MLG settings are good games. I don't care if you're a CE purist or not; they're all incredible games with competitive viability and saying they aren't is ridiculous
-I have no beef with unknown
-I haven't played Halo in 3 months and I don't even own an Xbox anymore so I don't know why I'm still here
