Halo |OT4| Trust's a Tough Thing to Come by These Days

I just noticed that. Oh god, indeed.
Cortana: Chief, that enemy you just killed dropped something. It's a weapon!
Chief: Ahhh, no it's not. Let's just leave it on the ground.
Cortana: But Chief, their advanced technology could be useful.
Chief: No Cortana, really, let's just leave it, it looks... used.
Cortana: I really th--
Chief: AREN'T I ENOUGH FOR YOU? WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME???!!!!

I just realized I can use the d-pad for movement in Halo Anniversary. Feels weeeeird.

Also, what graphics mode do you guys normally play with in Anni? I used the fancy graphics on my first play through, but have stuck to classic mode ever since.

Always fancy until I get to a still point then I'll do a lil spin using classic just to remind myself.

Occasionally if I'm feeling ballsy I'll switch during an encounter just to see all the particle effect and lighting changes.

Tunavi and I honestly took our time in our Legendary play through and switched the graphics at almost every new encounter. Took a while but very worth it to see the work 343 put in to it.

Yeah, I turn it on in areas that are particularly drab or undetailed in classic, and they're without fail jaw droppingly amazing in fancy pants mode.

Oh yeah, 343 (or Saber, actually) did an amazing job on the new engine. I mostly prefer the classic graphics from a purist / nostalgic standpoint.

I am loving almost everything he says here.

Defining dem roles.
Word. I'm excited to see how that dynamic plays out in objective especially.

Edit : Holy crap, Walshy says you can't pick up grenades off of dead bodies without a special perk. Whaaaaat.

I really want to do another play through. For me, I always loved the CE graphics and thought they were way ahead of themselves. I no longer thing that. Being able to switch them on the fly have shown me just how dated they (to me) and I usually say something to myself then switch back. Some of the CEA graphics are weird, but I think they are pretty awesome for the most part. Still, some parts of OG CE look simply awesome.

About to write and send both of you PM's (gimmie a sec) about your posts, cause we are wildly OT.

Ha! I need to learn to drop things sometimes. I removed my post, I'm cool to drop it if you don't want to continue.

Sounds consistent with the increased focus on gun play we are hearing about...I'm skeptical though :/

Yeah just heard that. Interesting.

Walshy is animated and fun to watch.

I don't quite understand the difference between tactical and support packages. Do you get to use both, or one or the other?

Thoughts about stuff from earlier (Correct me if any of this has been clarified by Frank/David/Anyone from 343)

Pre-emptive "In my opinion", just to be clear.

-Not being unscoped when shot is horrible. Just imagine all the people running around scoped while using active camo and having the perk that gives you radar while scoped. No, just no. Getting unscoped when shot with just the sniper doesn't work either. Only compromise I'd be okay with is like the one mentioned earlier, only taken out of scope when shot in the head. I'd still prefer being unscoped when shot no matter what.

-Thruster pack looks very nice. Pretty much what Evade should've been. Still don't like the fact that thrust-swording is going to become a thing now.

-Hardlight shield looks completely useless, lol. Doesn't look like it can take many bullets, and melee and explosives destroy it instantly.

-Worried about Promethean Vision. Sounded OP when it was unveiled, and now some people are saying it is OP. There are conflicting reports, though, so who knows.

-Not having friendly fire in multiplayer makes no sense to me either. Friendly fire adds a layer of skill to the game. You better watch where you throw that grenade/fire that rocket, or else you're going to be down a man and a point. Hopefully it was just done for those unskilled journalists.

-I'm disappointed that Hologram didn't get any special treatment. I liked it quite a bit in Reach, and I felt that it should get a buff, especially compared to these new AAs.

-Not sure how I feel about the 5 shot BR. The actual shots to kill part doesn't matter to me. it's the clip size. A 36 round mag on a gun that kills in 15 bullets doesn't make much sense.
Still, not really a big deal.

-The DMR seems very, very weak in anything but long range. In all the clips I've seen, the user is really struggling to connect at those ranges. More than likely, that's a good thing, preventing it from becoming a jack of all trades. However, that makes it a relatively useless starting weapon if true, outside of BTB.

-Not sure what to think of the vastly expanded weapon sandbox. I understand that it needs to be done to accommodate loadouts, though. I'm just worried that most of these weapons are going to be nearly identical, just with a different skin. Although that's really kind of an unfounded concern, as I haven't used them yet.

-As for my overall impressions, I'm liking what I'm seeing in general. Campaign looks incredible! Spartan Ops itself looks like a completely new campaign, and I'm very excited to play through it. Concerning multiplayer, I'd consider myself cautiously optimistic. The base game looks very similar to old school Halo, and I love that. It's just that all these changes worry me. They could still be quite fun though.

Haha, sorry about the mega post in advance.

I still need 1000/1000 CEA. I think I've only got like 4 left. I need to get that done this summer.

Also, sorta related but after 4 years in a row of Halo, with ODST, Reach, CEA, and now 4, I hope we get at least a year break from the series. Wait until the 720's at least a year old and bring out Halo 5. There are other ways to bring out new Halo content without it being a whole new game.

Fuck year unicorns.

From the glances I've seen, it does look like the permutations in 4 mesh better with the model. In 3 and Reach, permutations looked tacked on. Especially Reach with inconsistent placements and texture quality.

I don't have sound right now. What sounds consistent?

edit: Ryaaan, that's your helmet! lol still looks easier to snipe

Omlet was saying he feels gunplay has an increased importance from Reach where melee and grenades are super important. If only certain loadouts allow picking grenades up from dead bodies, it seems to fit the profile. However, that is a drastic change to Halo.

God damn we need that Sparkcast.

I think I'd have that perk on all the time. I need my grenades. People in those Halo 3 customs the other night will attest to my 50 in Team Grenades in Halo 3

that's lame. I don't like that at all.
You can't pick grenades up unless you have a perk?

wtf
Walshy's videos have been helpful, but not 100% accurate on the first pass. I'm willing to wait and see. Keep in mind he's got to get all this info, process it, and deliver it in less than ideal conditions. In a perfect world he'd be able to sit down in a quiet room and play for an entire day instead of doing bite-sized chunks of gameplay.

EDIT: Beaten by Domino. Thanks for clearing that up!

Walshy says the hardlight shield takes infinite damage. He says it turns red when it's about to run out of charge (lasts about eight seconds), not when it's taking damage.

From my understanding, you have one of each activated simultaneously. They're passive abilities that you don't "use" it combat -- they're just always on. I don't really get the distinguishing factor between them, though.

Also: I realllllly want to get my Spartan IV now. I'm bored with my Spartan III!

Not sure if I was allowed to take pictures or not but...

Won ten kills over second place, first game of Halo 4 ever, and I haven't touched another Halo game in a longgggggg time. And in this gametype(Regecide I think it was called), the leader, or "King" has a indicator AND bounty on his head for everyone to see.

Feels good man. And my friend and I got interviewed by 343 to maybe be used in a vidoc or something. We got signed posters, and some Avatar Halo 4 MC code as well. Oh and bottles of water with a Halo 4 label, whoo. Great night.

Also, they've only been playing Infinity Slayer, right? These settings might not be global

You know, the more I think about it the more happy I may be with the end of grenade spamming. That being said, why is it a perk to get more grenades? That's just the kind of stuff I hate.

Ah, okay. That'd make more sense that what I was thinking.

That Sparkast comes soon right? Official news beats players' impressions any day.

Domino said there are places on the map that spawn grenades, so it will be reduced from Reach but not as drastically as I first thought.

As for distinguishing between Tactical and Support, I'd imagine it's a handy way for designers to keep power levels in check while also allowing for two customizable options. For instance: you can have more ammo for your guns on spawn OR an extra grenade, not both at the same time.

Grenades are attached to a Spartan's armor, if you have "resupply" you have the ability to quickly disengage whatever locking mechanism they have on them so you can take them. There, I just saved all of Halo canon.
