Halo: Reach Beta Thread

Ewww.... ewwwww.

Double melee fixes nothing. It either leads to a 'close call' tradeoff or double beatdown. That's the same stuff that happens with single melee. All double does is slow the game down.

Why do you think that? so far I think it's miles better then Halo 3 just in the weapon balance and map department, more stuff to hide behind and all gear does something now, it's not a BR sausage fest.
It's tough to put my finger on it, but I just really dislike it as a whole. I guess I'll play more later, but I'm sure the fact that I'm consistently sucking balls at it isn't making it any more fun for me.

Holy fuck. I just had an insanely long epic crazy awesome session of Reach. Thanks to everyone who watched my stream. :D And sorry to those who played with me and got messages from random people watching lol.

Well, I'm pleased that Run is a button toggle with Bumper Jumper. Any chance we could get Jet Pack to be a toggle with BJ too? Unless, of course... they put in X Humper:

Edit: Ghal, I think I know what this 'feeling' of yours is.

At first, I thought the controller had a little bit of input lag... But then I realized that it's probably that the dead-zone (I don't know what else to call it) isn't as sensitive as 2 or 3. It's more like Halo CE. Meaning, you can make minor adjustments in your aim by just tapping the stick way over. In 2 and 3, tapping the the stick over is way more sensitive. At least... That's the odd feeling I'm getting.

Graphics are very meh, but the game is fucking fun.

Will play more before judging anything else.
Funny you say that because my friend was saying that the game was too graphical and that the jump height sucks, BR needs to be back in, Halo 3 was way better, Healthpack sucks, DMR sucks, blah blah blah

I think you'll find the people who understand the bliss of out BRing someone think it's weak while people who haven't played Halo in years think it's fine. The weapons are playable, but not fun.

Most immediate fixes

* Increase pistol clip by 5, lower shots to kill by one
* Reduce DMR to 4-shot kill
* Make melee one hit kill again
* Reduce grenade damage by 30%

These together would speed up the game and make individual battles require more skill

Fixed.

Wow If I knew that beta codes were being handed out like candy from a glitchy experts zone I wouldn't have scheduled a work trip for this week.

Loving he impressions, I drink your oppinions like a complex beer.

Keep them flowing!

Just played my first three games.
Really good. Like, REALLY good.
The new plasma rifle is definitely the shit.

You have very, very bad ideas.

Can you honestly say the weapons feel enjoyable to use right now? It doesn't help that one of the maps in the beta is almost at Chiron levels of bad. Now, I'm no map designer, but I gotta think if I were working on a map that had callouts like "6a Office" I'm probably cooking up a turd.

If you want to make a map like Sword Base, light every section in a different color. Oh he's in yellow, he's in red, etc. Right now it's a gigantic labyrinth of gray jaggies.

It was nice to run into Bladed and Prophet Steve in that last CTF game - I would say good game, but I was so pissed that that numb-nuts random guy on our team was standing still the entire fucking match - nothing pisses me off more than when people join a match to stand still.

It makes me rush in to die unnecessarily just to win the match.

We were even despite being down a man, until that final round too.

I always play with friends for this exact reason, but still - fucking hell.

I've been keeping my FPS gaming to the PC, so I need to get used to picking off heads with a controller again.

And I don't know about you guys, but the elite roll feels fucking godly. It's like a whole 'nother game.

Apparently it's "be late for your dinner" good.

I could use some people to play with. I'll probably be playing a fair amount this evening, so feel free to add me.

I think I like the Pistol more than the DMR/NR...nades are way too powerful, when you have games where people's TOD is NadesX10, there's a problem.

Grenades deal so much damage. I love it.

If a pistol-user rattles off a bunch of headshots from mid range, and I have the AR, I can completely nullify it with a well-placed grenade to the feet.

My first game and I'm on the same team as a GAFfer. 2 minutes in, said GAFfer is -1 and his guest is much worse. Said GAFfer quits. 3 rounds of CTF on Swordbase later and I've had a pisspoor first experience with Reach.

Thanks Backflip

I don't know, but the blast radius is kinda wonky. Feels like there's no way to escape a nade once it's loose in your area.

I could deal with the damage if it didn't hit everyone withing a 5 mile radius.

First request from JaggedSac.

If I am going to be teamed with 3 randoms, please do not match us against a party. Getting donged on pretty hard.

Other than that, it feels pretty different, but also pretty similar. Loving it so far, except for getting destroyed :)

Armor Lock!

Bumping into people who have never played halo before, shocks me as to how they managed to get an early code if they never tried halo, some dude and his mate in FFA were just playing around and were amazed at nearly everything we take for granted in a halo game :lol cool though.

Just had the most amazing first kill too, going to video it tomorrow once I buy bungie pro, but now I sleep!

I guess that's true. I've only really messed with Sprint, Evade, and camo.

Sprint will do the trick. From earlier:

So does evade. And armor lock. I don't find them too powerful - you just have to be more aware. That they're more scarce and limited to two at a time is a good thing.

Well, I've gotten away a few times with sprint. It just seems really odd how far the 'nade reaches.

And while on the subject, can you choose which grenade you can throw still?

No, guys. kylej is right. Pistol and DMR need to be four shots.

Reducing the rate of fire/decreasing the accuracy from the BR was enough of a balance.

i've been playing this for 2 hours straight, so much fun. i HATE the sword defense map. other than that, this game feels SOOOO much different than halo 3, it shouldn't even say Halo on it

Just played a game with some gaffers. I was A Master Mudbut.

Yeah, t'was my first game. So far I have no idea what is going on but I like it.
