Halo: Reach Beta Thread

I haven't followed the news recently. I thought beta opened at May 3rd?
Me too, I'm confused as hell!

Annoying, I was hoping to be on a level playing field as everyone else when the beta started, now I'm gonna get owned by all the people who will have been playing it for days :lol

If something important happened in the last 20 pages, well I guess it's my loss. Tashi's stream seemed to attract the weirdest of people :p I love the QQ rage about the Activision news.

Ghaleon's emotional rollercoaster is interesting :p

This game is awful. Sword Base doesn't make any sense to me at all. The only thing I like is that covenant weapon that shoots plasma nades. The controls are so fucked too.

This game is awful. Absolutely lost my sale.

You should have been on it. :lol

I'm still disappointed in many aspects of the game, but it's a lot more fun once I swapped control schemes and gave it another half dozen games. More than any other Halo game, it took getting used to. I still don't think it feels like a Halo game, and that's not a compliment.

I'm not sure how someone can call this game awful. Battlefield and Halo have been some of the most entertaining shooters to grace our screens.

If I don't have the beta and I go over to my house with my gamertag on USB drive, I could play split with him, right?

I feel the same way. It doesn't feel like a halo game. At all. Also, is swat mode (or whatever it's called) SUPPOSED to make headshots with the BR stupidly easy? People were destroying left and right with those things.

Wow, nobody on my team even remotely knew what they were doing. Lost stockpile 11-3 and I had all 3. Fun gametype though and I usually hate CTF. Also the human AR is crap. The covenant one is decent.

So if people haven't found it out:

If you touch (melee?) someone in armor lock your shield drops and make you 1-hit. People getting REALLY pissed about that

Anyone know how to change to an elite?

Elites are only playable in special gametypes. Right now in the Beta they're only available in the gametype "Covie Slayer"

Shake Appeal said:
Yep. DMR starts, no weapons on map, no radar, sprint the only Armour Ability, Spartans the only available models.

its under slayer pro right?

if so i just won by 1 kill and went 25-14 :D (i normally suck at halo and slayer in general) :lol

When U do the Expert Zone and submit the quiz does the page auto close? I just want to make sure that it wasnt because chrome crashed or anything else. And how long does it take to get the code?

Its hilarious, a guy ran at me, I armour locked and all I heard was "I can still beat you down", we both laughed when his melee stunned him and I beat him :lol

So know knife runners on CoD, well ive found something worse. Hammer runners on Halo. A dude just used spring and the hammer exclusivly last game and destroyed. He did it without the hammer and was just double meleeing everyone. it was insane, and has the potential to kill the game :(

Is there a way to see what Commendations we're earning in-game? I see the bonus for them after a game, but I have no idea what for until I hit bungie.net. If it's not in game, I'd like to see that added for the shipping game; when the credits are added, also show the progress for individual Commendations.

its okay, I was getting owned by mid afternoon. cant wait till the arena open to get all these high level nerds outta MY FACE.

Does anyone else think it's really difficult to tell when your shields are down in Reach?

Also unless I'm missing something in-game, it doesn't explain at all what commendations are? I would have no idea unless I looked on Bungie.net (again, I could be missing something).

They pop at the bottom.

But really, they are far from transparent. There are just all these bars with no numbers!

Incidentally, Ghal, about what I was saying before:

http://www.bungie.net/Stats/Reach/default.aspx?player=Shake Appeal

Look at my "Recent Games: Kill/Death Spread". That giant red hole is what you, Bladed, etc. did to me.

They need to show you how many Cr's you are away from ranking up, im 75% away from ranking up (and a awesome peice of armour), but as I cant tell what that means in real terms im going to call it a night.

If I new I was only 200 Cr's away then I would have carried on playing.

I only had time to play a few games before I had to quit for the night, but what I played was very fun. As Ghal and some others have said, there's definitely a different rhythm compared to Halo 3 or 2. I'm not sure if I agree with others that it doesn't feel like a Halo game, but I can see their point.

I love the Stockpile and Headhunter game types. I'm hoping to get to play some Oddball and Juggernaut tomorrow night.

I'm off all next week, so look me up if you need a "Steel" player to dong on. I'll be playing as much as I have a chance to this weekend and next week.

So i've been an expert zone member for awhile now, filled out the test (even had the email for the code) yet got nothing after finishing.

I officially don't like the assassinations, on record. They are jarring and break pace and sometimes do really glitchy shit.

I also don't like armor lock, it also interupts gameflow.

I hate how in each new Halo game the grenade arc seems to get weaker and weaker. I miss being able to throw a grenade like a man.

The jumps feel a little heavier, but I do love sprint jumping! I also love sprint and camo much more then I anticipated.

The jetpack changes everything in that there are so many crazy ambushes, both a positive and negative experience.

I love the pistol / DMR / Needlerifle combat.
Those of you complaining about this not feeling like halo, I think its cause the AR is weaksauce compared to the other weapons, and the melee change forces shoot-outs. I can totally see how this would fundamentally change how some of you approach combat, and it makes sense that it feels both alien and wrong to you. But I love it.

I had a hard time putting it down, it's super fun.

Also, while immersive, the explosion sound deadening just comes across as my tv acting up. I don't like it.

Seems like Halo: CE tossing to me for Reach. You can toss the things across the map if you want.

I'm loving armor lock personally, not a fan of the jet pack.

This is probably just my set up (Using a 1280x1024 monitor, sitting really close) but this game is one of the ugliest messes I've ever seen. Everything is incredibly fuzzy. Even the menus. Especially the menus. It also runs in fullscreen, which on it's own is not especially great, but the HUD is just weird looking for it. I assume these are just specific issues with the beta not supporting the full range of displays though. I hope. Gonna swap monitors in a bit to see if it's better looking.
Quoting myself. I busted out my good monitor and everything is mostly peachy. UI isn't as terrifucked and the menus are actually readable. Still hazy as hell though.
