Halo: Reach Beta Thread

I've found having my equipped weapon constantly "ghosting" more visually distracting than the jagginess of Halo 3. Fuck you, temporal anti-aliasing.
Urk mentioned earlier in the thread that the weapon ghosting is already fixed in the shipping build. Along with about half of what everyone is complaining about. :lol

Halo Reach is so easy with these pub scrubs.

Got perfection on my third game. Ratings is at 1617 right now.

Still adapting to the weighted feel of the Spartans without sprint. Sprint is essential on Swordbase. Spartans with sprint reminds me of COD, which is really good imo. Jetback is really annoying to use on powerhouse because of the roof overhands that block your way, but you're screwed if you don't use it on that map.

DMR max rate of fire is too slow. It is equivalent to the NR's max rate but the NR is much more potent. The actually bloom itself is fine.

NR is extremely easy to aim with.

Halo 3 was more mindless fun the first few days, but then it got old quickly. Reach looks like something I can sink my teeth into longer.

Can you share the beta with friends if you let them download it to their console with your gamertag?

Anyone know? The only info I've found on it was kind of vague.

One more thing, Halo Reach has the best IQ of any 360 game yet. TAA looks like 4xAA to me.

Ghosting don't bother me since my near sighted eyes already have trouble following fast moving images.

The textures and model detail are the best so far in any console game this generation hands fucking down. If you say so otherwise go suck a dick.

Only complaint about the graphics is the sunlight don't feel like sunlight, and dynamic environment shadows is needed.

Hooray! After starting at like .5, my k/d is gradually creeping up towards 1.0 (and beyond? no.. probably not).

Got this awesome bank shot sticky against big ander earlier, but this was the best part. It's almost nsfw.....

Is there a list somewhere? Or will Bungie put out one? Just curious. Also it seems like a lot of the people who have gotten the beta now are thinking this is Halo 3.5, I can tell when I play against them.

....So which is it? It should be one or the other....

Damn, I was hoping no one caught that before I edited :lol. I caught my mistake there and changed it in the original post. It's my understanding that every game will be used to place you in a Division and then the Daily Ratings will be used to place you within the Division. Though I could very well have this wrong.

Why does the vote default to the top game when there's a tie? It should just choose between the two.

The gametype & map combo that is selected initially can be thought of as Bungie's choice for the game, similar to the first combo given in Halo 3.

On the 360? Okay, might agree. PS3/PC, hell no.

Think of Daily Ratings as the bar you need to clear to enter a Division. It's a two step process:

1) Gain three Daily Ratings. You are now qualified for a Division.

2) The Division you are placed in, and your subsequent movement in and out of it, is based on all Arena games games played to that point, and for the rest of the Season.

After qualifying for a Division, Daily Ratings are used for personal tracking only, and are not used by the Arena system. They're just a bar for qualifying.

Yes, it's confusing. It was cleared up a few days ago in the thread due to Luke's patient explanations. I don't think it's been well explained elsewhere.

Beta is a blast. I like the new sprint / jetpack / shield mechanics, and the return of the pistol is awesomeness. Despite not being as powerful as it was in HALO CE.

Only complaint i have is the maps are kinda meh. Halo 3 had better beta maps, although the "final" version of that had a shitty selection of maps. Here's hoping halo : reach is the opposite of that.

No comparison.

I own Gears, GOW3, UC2, Killzone 2.

Anything that's not a fps on the market right now can't compare. Devs have to be retarded to put Reach level textures and model details on a 3rd person shooter. And the devs have not been retarded.

Halo Reach owns Killzone 2 in the textures and model detail department. The tiny little lettering and rivets on the guns are just amazing. I zoom-stared at the BR in theater mode for quite a while.

Halo Reach guns are more detailed than Crysis guns.

However, this is only 2 areas that Halo Reach excels in. Other areas are pretty average.

I haven't even played the beta yet, but I think you might be exaggerating.

My biggest problem with stockpile so far is I don't think the HUD does a good enough job making it clear where you should take the flag. Half of my teammates are bringing our flags to the enemy capture points because they see a blue marker in a red circle. They need to make that shit idiot proof.

Nah dude, I give my compliments and my criticisms when they're due.

Reach textures are best served in Theater mode with zoomed in view on models.

The problem I have with that system currently is that in arena, it's always ordinary Team slayer as default, then Team Slayer Classic and finally Team Slayer Pro. And despite choosing TS pro every game so far, I've yet to actually try it because most people don't seem to bother voting.

Team player pro also kind of sucks. No radar in a FFA game and only one weapon to start kills it.

but he's talking about arena... 4v4

team slayer pro is the only way to go. Radar = lame, one weapon start is a little crappy but whatever much better than playing the vanilla team slayer shitfest

Isn't it team slayer? Regardless, the point is that I want to try it, but I can't because the Default option is always the same gametype and generally people seem to not vote, so I always get team slayer ( which is fine in itself, but I would like to have a bit of variation ).

im really not understanding the cr system...i average 70-120 a match but occasionally get 400 or more in a match...although my stats stay in the same range

Commendations give you a big CR boost whenever you get them, they are bassically CR rewards when you get certain medals X amount of times if I understand it correctly.

Two words. Covy. Slayer.

Elites ridin spinnaz. They don't stop!

If you time it right, jumping out of a roll makes you do a super long jump. Shit's gangstah

Aww man. I wish I could play over your shoulders, borrow your glasses or SOMETHING.

Holy fuck, I like Halo again. On the weekend I wasn't too thrilled. In fact I was fucking hating on it. But after tonight, I'm balls deep again.

Thanks Bungie for the rating system. I'm REALLY liking this. No more more kills the better. No more ignoring the assists...My team lost, but hey I still got second place in the ratings.

I can't find ratings anywhere on BNET though, is it there anywhere? I'd like an option to see your active roster while in matchmaking. Also, allow us to see non-party friends rating!!!!

Rating! Woohoo

Yeah. Reach is a very nice looking game, and the textures and models are great, but best this gen? No way.

Superiority is something to be savored slowly.

I get plus points for owning all the games that I am comparing Reach against.

Let my add your gamertag, we can play online together.

Hey I love the beta so far. Its just anything that makes remember the days of Perfect Dark Zero is scary.

On a serious note. Is Reach going to make the Elites super separate from Spartans or will it be like Halo 2 where for any gametype I can select either? I know the lore reason why it wouldn't and that Invasion mode seems to say no.

All of my friends suck at this game. Doesn't matter if its individual skill, if your teammates suck, you're not gonna get a good rating.

Would really like to find some good gaffers to play arena with.

Holy crap this is good. Everything feels more polished and satisfying. The weapons feel amazing and the audio is perfect. It is Halo with a bold change in game pace that makes it feel fresh and head and shoulders above the vast majority of FPS games out there. If you play it tactical and not like a crazy persons run and gun the you start getting rewarded.

I don't get the people annoyed by grenades as they feel much the same to me in terms of blast radius and damage. Armour lock is laughable when people use it as I just stand beside them and melee or sword them to death. I love how quickly the sheilds recharge, allows you to stay alive a lot longer than in Halo 3 when you go on the retreat. I have no complaints about either map. Both are really well designed and offer many cool combat oppurtunities. I also like how they have hidey holes and more cover than Halo 3 maps.

I'm not blown away by the graphics but they are rock solid. I'm far more impressed by the art direction, especially that of the new spartan armor which is incredible.

I applaud Bungie on taking a risk here. As much as I appreciated Halo 3 and its multiplayer, and as much as I loved the SP of ODST, the series needed a rethink on its tactile gameplay and this is better than I imagined it was going to be.

Played some arena today, got to 1640. I'm really loving this game, and the final release is going to be even better. Sprint has taken me over, it's hard to use anything else.

I had a really exciting moment earlier in Slayer Pro against a guy with a hammer. Saw him coming, stuck him as he was sprinting towards me, then just turned around as fast as possible and sprinted the fuck out of there. Survived with like 2 red bars. :lol

Why are there so many slayer variants on swordbase games. I want to play covie slayers or Headhunter on powerhouse. Dadgumit.
