It allows you to move the flag faster. Just pick it up and look up a little bit on your reticule then release. It'll throw the flag and allow you to move faster with it.

It allows you to annoy the hell out of everyone by getting the announcer to constantly say "FLAG TAKEN" and stuff.

For anyone doubting this... Load up a Halo 3 replay and switch to a different player. Marvel in how jerky it is. Do the same in Reach... Butter.
 
I'm going to keep posting my thoughts and comments in hopes that Bungie is reading them, but I'm seriously not reading what the rest of you post. Some of you are just ridiculous. All you want is your favorite weapon and ability to rape and if there's something that you don't know how to counter then it must be overpowered, or shit. You just want things to be the way they were in previous games even if they were broken because it's what you're used to. I'll continue to post my serious thoughts and constructive criticisms as the beta goes on.

Too early for people to comment on these sorts of things. They need to put hours and hours into it before coming to any conclusion.

Some of these are definitely knee-jerk, I'll give you that, but the grenades are kind of ridiculous. I've had games were entire battles were fought almost entirely in grenades, just hucking them back and fourth, because they are so powerful and plentiful doing anything else is a waste of time.
 
Grenades are kinda overpowered yeah, but it's more the spam when everybody is throwing them at a certain spot :p. in a 1 on 1 I don't feel the same way. AR needs a dmg boost imo..

To those complaining about shitty teammates and assholes in matchmaking, there are a ton of GAFers now with codes. I suggest you hook up with them and try to have a good time :D
 
Ok a few things.
-Covy slayer rocks
-Focus rifle is awesome
-Game overall looks great. (despite some flatter environmental lighting and shadows seeming a little low.)
-Powerhouse is awesome. Sword Base took some getting used to, but it really is growing on me.
- I am loving the art style.

I was bitching about Armor Lock earlier, but it's not because it's something that I cannot counter -- I use it second only to Sprint, and I only really pick Sprint in slayer matches. I was bitching about it because I honestly think it's over powered :D

And I also think the AR needs a buff, but it's not because it's my favorite weapon and it's under powered, but just because when I switch to it I find it completely unreliable and instantly start looking for another weapon. In Halo 3 I'd still have enough faith in the AR to engage an enemy on site.

Yep. I loved the Needler in Halo 3, but in this I feel like I put a shit load of Needles into an enemy and they still don't blow.

I got totally donged on by some GAF people :( (didn't recognize the names at all, but they had GAF and/or NGAF callsigns).

Also weird, I totally love the Needler and think it's much better now. :lol

When I'm by myself I find a game lightning fast. In a party of two it takes a couple minutes; three or more and you will need to start making sandwiches.
 
Personally the game seems stiffer(control wise), I'm dying a lot by grenades but it seems like me being stupid more than anything

the spray and pray guns feel too spray and pray, if I start with an assault rifle I have to get rid of it, it's fairly useless - Covy slayer was awesome - Spartan ? Not so much- and the focus gun? It owns me, absolutely owns me

if you're not using your abilities you're as good as dead

I think it's because of the true skill thing. The more people you have the longer it takes to balance all of the skills.

This. I wish Bungie would implement a way to cut down on this some, like a speech sample per second limit or something/

Really, it's hard to play any MP game without it now. So simple, yet so satisfying.
 
I'm surprised at the amount of codes Bungie and Bungie staff have been giving out/awarding fans. Fuckin' awesome. :D

And as for Reach, I'm finding nothing to be overpowered. Grenades are fine, IMO.

Oh, yeah. I figured it had to do with either trying to find a well suited match (skill wise), or trying to give preference for Random vs Random and Team vs Team. Was just commenting on the time it takes.

I hate my life. Now I have to wait til Tuesday (Australia) to play, while the bastards on my friends list are playing it right now. :(

So apparently this glitch, in addition to looking really cool, seems to show several armor permutations that aren't in the Beta, including the Chief's helmet and Kat's robotic arm. Thoughts?

The AR is far better than its Halo 3 counterpart; I should know. It's more accurate at a longer range, especially if you pump the trigger. It's far more useful in Reach than it is in Halo 3.

I agree it is more accurate at longer distances, but it takes almost an entire clip to take someone down. But maybe you're right and I just haven't used it enough. These are just my personal opinions, no demands to Bungie yet.

Awesome. Hopefully Bungie gets really creative and has the ability to add more permutations down the line, way past retail release. Maybe with each map pack, include a half dozen new shoulder pieces, helmets, and what not.

It was the same way in Halo 3....
 
Wow, using jetpack you can literally flag juggle better than you currently can in Halo 3. Had someone on my team a few games back capture the flag almost as soon as the round began. I thought that they made changes to prevent this kind of thing. :lol

Also just for giggles since this thread moves so fast heres a list of ideas from the last couple of pages that people have talked about. Of course this doesn't mean that they're any good but its nice to have things in one place no? Feel free to add you own.

Minor things that GAF would like to see in Reach that do not have to do with gameplay and graphics.
-Darker aiming reticles, the games bloom effects tend to eat the hud.
-Audio effect for when you get a kill
-Audio effect for when your armor ability has recharged.
-Display commendation progress somewhere in game.

Played a couple of games and I'm really enjoying it so far. If any gaffers in my friends list wonder why I'm not joining them, I want you to know that I'm trying not to ruin your chances at winning team based games.

It feels so weird adjusting from MW2 where just a few shots will kill the opponent. This game feels much harder. :\
