Stop running straight up the middle of no where. I played about 10 games last night and was not killed once in my spawn area.

Inv+Needler can defeat a DMR player in open space, if that's a problem you've encountered. I've also gotten more success going right and up the steps, using more teammates with me, using Inv, etc. - some of you make it seem like it is completely impossible to win as an Elite.
For serious, I really only have a problem with Elites in Slayer. In vanilla Invasion, there have been times though when the Elites refuse to work together and the Spartans use the tactic of sending a few spawn campers with DMR's providing cover.

This isn't a flaw of the game, however, a good team always beats a less organized one. It just sucks.

It's not a question of running in the open. The game spawns people directly in front of the other team. I posted this last night ~> link. If I didn't have a snipe and instead had another teammate with a DMR they would've been wrecked the same way. Once the locations are memorized it'll be so easy to force spawns. Poor Elites don't have a chance.

Are you guys experiencing slowdowns (not necessarily lag; engine slowdowns) in Invasion / Invasion Slayer?

If the answer is yes, are you a F&F or ODST beta user?
And when did you have slowdowns?

thanks.

@Pookaki: can't you check the video from the enemy perspective?

I don't agree with this -- I like it the way it is, and I've barely used the hammer to this point -- but it seems like Bungie is culling data that speaks to this issue.

For example, if they find that sprinters wreak havoc on a map with the hammer, but don't demonstrate much skill with other facets of the game, it seems like this would constitute a problem (an oversimplification, but hopefully you get the point).

However, if this isn't the case, it might suggest that our subjective -- and potentially flawed -- perceptions are tarnishing our judgment (e.g., thanks to basic cognitive principles like the availability heuristic, being on the other end of a handful of egregious hammer kills can cause us to the think the system is horribly unbalanced, even if it's not).

In any event, I hope Bungie is going to listen to the fans, but at the same time will pay close mind to the data. No offense, but I trust it a lot more than I trust the fans. :D

I'm not saying I disagree with a lot of the criticisms levied against the game, but I hope Bungie essentially disregards complaints that aren't backed up by hard data.

Wel obviously bungie isn't going to change the game just because of a few posts on the internet, but compared to the other melee weapon (the sword), which has been toned down a lot since halo 3, the hammer has gotten a lot more powerful because of this. That leads me to think that the hammer + sprint combo was never really intended to work the way it does now, and is more of an oversight.

Also many of complaints/suggestions can't really be backed up by data, like the jump hight or movement speed, it's mostly subjective, but that doesn't mean it is perfect the way it is now.

The first 2 parts of invasion are ridiculously easy as elites. I've never played a game where the elites didn't reach stage 3.
However, I've never played a game where the elites have won either. Carrying the core slow as hell across the plain while the Spartans have Scorpions, Warthogs, and every possible combination of weapon and AA, is a close to impossible task.

I experience mega slowdown when someone joins or leaves an Xbox Live chat party. while in game. It gets pretty bad.

Edit: F&F Download here.

I've had slowdown in F&F in Invasion from a nearby exploding Wraith. I didn't go back and check the film, but it was similar to when you'd see slowdown in Halo 3 - lots of effects fighting each other.

Yes, that's a common issue, we should report it but I'm sure Bungie already knows.

Still, I'm talking about low FPS when there are like 3 veichles and lots of explosions.
Hmm...

ps. yeah that was definitely a lag spike or a bug or something...
@Willeth: are you playing through ODST?

I am of the opinion that spawning is broken in Invasion. I either have an issue where it says "Waiting to spawn.." for upwards of beyond 10 seconds, or I spawn right in front of enemies, enemies in front of me, etc. I just don't think the buddy system is worth all the hassle this is causing. I just want to die, wait a couple seconds, and then play some more. Not sit there spamming A on my controller ;_;

Occasionally, during messy vehicle/explosion situations when I'm caught in ground zero. Usually the slowdown is brief and dips by a handful of frames.

I love the Pro Pipe too much. It's the only reason I'm playing Invasion Slayer as much as I am.:lol

You mean the grenade launcher? I can't seem to get used to it. Too used to bouncing Brute Shots on the ground at a person. The Grenade Launcher in Reach is too short and doesn't seem to have splash damage whenever I use it. :lol

I have a question, if you could answer Urk or anyone else I'd appreciate it.

When spawning during a game of Invasion, either Slayer or Invasion proper, and if I choose to spawn away from my battle partner in an isolated area, is it normal for there to be a delay between when the respawn timer countdown reaches zero and the moment I respawn?

See, I've repeatedly decided to spawn away from the action in both game modes and when the timer hits zero I'm expecting to respawn instantly, but I don't. There's a noticeable delay of somewhere between a second or two (it's not a fixed duration). Seems like it's unlikely to be kept from spawning for a few additional seconds and that's why I'm asking.

Also, does anyone else experience this?

It happens to everyone.

So is anyone down for HaloGaf Invasion tonight instead of customs? VH, bring the beast-mode back bro, no excuses this time.

As long as we make a gentleman's agreement not to park the Scorpion on the core.

Agreed. Is that something that is going to fixed for ship? I can't really see a fix for that though. So far it only happened to me twice, but it's still a problem.

I guess I've been lucky and haven't experience someone parking the tank on the core.
42 games and not once. I guess you guys are just really unlucky.

I don't think so. That phase really needs another way in, right now it's far too predictable. Shooting gallery, then watch the stairs. Flying out in the open when the other team spawns with DMRs and Pistols isn't that much of an advantage, but it would mean that when the defenders get scattered, there's opportunity to get in faster. It would be pretty interesting.
You know that once you get up to the lower level on cliff side you can circle around and come out where the Spartans spawn right?

I haven't fully made up an oppinion about invasion yet, but I love the buddy system. I haven't been left at the museum yet!

Seriously, having a battle brown you can trust is so awesome. I like to sneak in with camo, and let him spawn in at the start.

Nope, never found that route, though I've heard others mention it. I'll fly around in a film. I still don't like that you have to enter on the left or right sides, it needs a third way up. I'm just not fond of the set up of the first phase.

Good post man.

Like the bombing objective suggestion. That's what Invasion needs to be...a pot purri of gametypes in one.

Is there any overhead map available for Boneyard?

Any ideas on how I could make my own if there isn't any?

Yeah, thats why I loved Headlong. So many ways in or out, flanking became an important instrument to plant the bomb or steal the flag

Here is an example of why I think the banhammer for quitting is bullshit.

I just played an Invasion game in which the other team (Spartans with DMR's) used the spawn kill/ cover fire approach. My team was ridiculously unorganized/sucky, and my battle bro quit in the first minute, leaving me to spawn into 4 Spartans every time. So I quit.

To think that I will be punished for not wanting to spend 4 minutes re-spawning makes me :(

Came across a weird bug today in this game. Our team of five were all Elites in Invasion Slayer.

Our team:

DogEight
Willeth
Dixonater
Kor of Memory
MrBeeb
and PFC cupcakeman, who was a random not in our party. We were in a Live party, if it makes a difference.

Early on in the game, someone on our team makes a comment like 'hey, I didn't know Willeth was on the other team.' I told him I wasn't. He said he saw me as a Spartan, but at that point I was an Elite on the back of a Wraith and had died shortly before he said it.

Later in the game, I was in the turret of a Wraith and saw a Spartan with MrBeeb above his head in red. The film shows it as padraig08, but I know what I saw in-game. Look at the film, MrBeeb was actually behind him almost on a direct line of sight from me to padraig.

I'll upload some screenshots tomorrow, but the images won't show the bug, only the setup. Has anyone else seen this? I'd put it down to me misreading the screen if someone hadn't also mentioned it earlier in the game.

Spartans get way too many power weapons during the 2nd/3rd phase of Invasion, on top of being able to spawn with grenade launchers. :lol Also, why is there a spawn box right beside the phantom for Spartans? Please tell me this will change.

That was the same dude I was shooting earlier, then he dissapeard into thin air 0_o
It's lag... Look at your game clock, it is frozen at 1:09 for quite a while.

You can tell it is lagging because he is shooting at nothing on the ground. You saw one thing, while in reality something else was happening. When the game did sync up he just happened to be right in front of you.

Not Reach's fault, just your Internets ;)

Finally got into playing some Halo Reach yesterday and today with my 3 of my friends in the same room. We had 4 360's and 3 monitors and a HDTV running, my room was crazy hot, I'm surprised that we didn't get any RRoD's. We started at 7pm and finished playing at 3:30am...I totally suck at Halo although I had a real good time. Will carry on again tonight...another 8 hour gaming session...my wife is going to be pissed.

Invasion, host quits, the Elites and Spartans start dying in random spots of the map including the capture territories. Four folks stuck in infinite respawn hell. =\

You won't be punished for that. Occassional quits out of neccessity are being accounted for. Bans are reserved for players who exhibit a clear pattern of habitual quitting.

Didn't urk adress this in the BWU as well? something about them just ending the game in a scenario you are descriping.

Also I would hope that they would be able to program the system so that if for example, half your team quits in an arena game, you would not get punished for leaving as well.

Nice! Sounds like fun. Makes me wish my real life friends played Halo.

There's a good interview regarding the Beta with L.M Smith on waypoint today. He describes how Bungie is going to pour hot Reach action all over the fan's faces this fall, looking forward to it. Waypoint just keeps getting better and better, Thanks 343i

Pretty sure you can't, but it would be really cool to be able to see all your games displayed in a chart similar to that so that you could see over time if you got better/worse at Reach.

Eh.. just played my first split screen game.

Not pretty. Seems worse than Halo 3 maybe.

Reduction of geometry detail is far more aggressive than in Halo 3, splitscreen or otherwise. It bothers me the most on Sword Base, where it feels like every single part of the level can take a dramatic hit in detail if you're far enough away, like almost (every?) wall, for example. The paneling that runs along the bottom of most of the walls is where it is most noticeable, as they'll take a big hit from a short distance.
