I thought I was good at Halo, but I guess not. Thanks Arena. Next time I'm going for GOLD!! I still love this game!

My play time is going to be cut back now thanks to me being back from vacation (not that I played as much as I wanted on vacation anyway), but I am really looking forward to NT1 this weekend.
My opinion on the party chat thing: I can mute annoying kids and racists. I can't unmute party chatters, and I can't tell party chatters that someone is coming behind them or I suck with Snipes, would you like it? It's fine in FFA and BTB, but in objective games and the Arena, it's annoying as hell.
After more and more games, I really agree with a lot of you: increase the jump height, please, Bungie, and increase the player speed. I know we're knock-off Spartans, but the jump height is ridiculously low. Now we're shorter, slower, and we jump like I do in real life. Any improvements, no matter how small to speed and jump height would be welcome. I'm personally not pining for Master Chief moonjumps, but the whole baby-gate height jump has grown wearisome, especially in Invasion and on Powerhouse. Sprint-jump helps, and give an almost Crackdown feel compared to the default jump, but I'd prefer to have an option beside Sprint-jump to make it over the stairs from the waterway to the bathroom on Powerhouse.
I've run into two interesting bugs during Invasion this past weekend. One, I call Magic Carpet ride. My spawn bro popped up on the back of my Warthog at the end of a round of Invasion (standing on the back of the 'hog, not as the gunner). I take off right as the end game score is coming up, and he falls off the 'hog, but glides behind me for a little while as I drive off:

Before that I played a game of Invasion Slayer. I put the file of the whole game in my share. Basically, no choice of spawn, no armor abilities or loadout choice the entire game (~9 minutes). I think it was this game, but I'm not sure:

ProPipe: How the hell do I use this thing? I aim directly at people, above people, below people, around people doesn't matter. Unless I use it as a shotgun, the damned grenade bounces between the enemy's legs, falls short and bounces God knows where, etc. I've tried the manual detonation, auto detonation, and the only thing I know works is meleeing with it. =/
I know this isn't the case.Falagard said:2. My understanding is that the uppermost option is chosen based on frequency/percentages like the previous Halo 3 playlist system did. (Some map/gametype combination appears X percentage of the time as the chosen default). The uppermost option is what the system thinks should be the next map based on whatever criteria they use - such as map and gametype percentages, etc. If I'm distracted (in the armor menus, settling a crying child, going to the washroom) I'd it goes to the default chosen by the system.
Here's a SWAT game of mine. I saved it to show people the lag between landing a headshot and people dying, the same window of opportunity that allows people the get "simultaneous gun kills". It happens two or three times in that game but you can often see them getting off shots after I send the killing bullet their way (sometimes missing me or sometimes hitting me). If so would you mind linking it here so that I can save it to my Xbox? Thanks in advance.![]()

The shit pisses me off and contributes to how terrible the gunplay feels in comparison to Halo 3. I have one or two simultaneous kills outside of SWAT if you'd rather have those, they're not in my fileshare but I can make it happen.
It's a lot easier to make epic videos with a game that's been out for multiple years as opposed to a beta with only a few maps to play on. I'd give it a little more time.bobs99 ... said:This is beutiful:

SailorDaravon said:Speaking stictly to the video, the "flow" is probably the editing, as well as the jump height/movement in Halo 3. In Reach that will probably be offset by things like the Jetpack, assassinations, and others. This is also kind of ironic considering your avatar which has as awesome ragdoll/death animation happening that would not happen in Halo 3.
God's Beard said:Because people aren't used to an unfinished game with 3 maps yet? Luke Smith seemed to have a pretty good flow going.
EazyB said:There are two things wrong with the veto system:
1) It shouldn't display votes (maybe only the votes of your party/team if anything)
2) There should be no default vote, only those that care to vote should have a say in what will be played. Or at the very least make the list of gametypes in random order every time so Stockpile on Powerhouse isn't automatically selected so often.
2) It shouldn't automatically pick the uppermost selection on draws, it should either do a revote with only those two selections (so people that voted for the 3rd and 4th choices can have their say) or simply choose between the two at random. Currently it (along with #2) result in a disproportionate frequency of the uppermost option.

Yes, but I still fail to see how it's a relevant argument. You're comparing an obviously unfinished product to a near 3 year old game. If it were my choice, I'd have Halo 2 back with updated playlists.bobs99 ... said:Are you for serious? Did you even watch the video?

Those are examples of playlists with less than four different gametypes (three in Arena, two in Invasion), which do seem to run on a fixed order. In Grab Bag and FFA, where there are more than three gametypes, the system he described is more likely to be in place.EazyB said:I know this isn't the case.

not saying I condone this type of behavior, I just simply wanted to try it out for myself.

The concept itself is sound and quite interesting. Where there's criticism, the criticism is mostly focused on refining it from Beta to final release in several areas: load out selection and progression, spawn locations and system (see above spawn camping video), vehicle/weapon balance, objective placement and bugs. Basically, the sort of things that will undoubtedly get worked on, since it's just a Beta. There was some general surprise, since the mode is simply a lot rougher than expected, especially compared to the relatively polished Halo 3 Beta.Net_Wrecker said:So is Invasion in it's current form a failure? Of the issues, the spawning system worries me the most.
But that's probably to be expected to a degree, since Bungie is trying out so many new ideas at once.
I'm only really liking the feel of the warthog right now. All the other vehicles just don't feel very good to control IMO, which is a shame considering control and feel of vehicles was always one of the things the Halo games never failed at. But hopefully they're not final yet.Wiggum2007 said:I feel like the Banshee gets more and more awkward to pilot with every successive Halo game.
I feel that the vehicles were perfect in Halo 3 and yet they go and break them. Some are overpowered (Scorpion) and others feel like a death trap (Warthog).Wiggum2007 said:I feel like the Banshee gets more and more awkward to pilot with every successive Halo game.

Agreed, the reduced speed, acceleration, and jump speed really remove one of the things that differentiates Halo from other shooters. How 1v1 BR firefights would move up and around the geometry. How you could easily maneuver around the many planes of the level to get a better line of sight to your target.bobs99 ... said:Are you for serious? Did you even watch the video?
I guess Reach feels more fixed to me, it seems very predictable. Halo has never made me feel like im stuck to an axis before. That video just has movement and speed which I havent seen in Reach yet.
Now this is just nostalgia speaking.bobs99 ... said:(P.S. I miss the old HaloGaf - people didnt seem to use stupid internet insults back then).
