The Elite at the beginning of Nightfall doesn't count towards challenges anymore, and for some reason it makes me laugh :lol No idea if its new, I was away from Halo for a month.

Maybe I'll give you a hint.

Play Lone Wolf with the Thunderstorm skull on.

Why are the Weekly Challenges repeating? The last three in a row have been repeats, and we've had four total. This week's is the same as the one for the first week Reach was out. I've accepted at this point that we won't see any new Daily Challenges, but the Weekly? We've only had 14 unique ones.

That's where I ended up. Just thought it was funny that the specific Elite doesn't count, but the rest in the level do.

Played a lot of Endzeit (Endziet? Endzit?) today. Played a few games of the other maps. Quick thoughts to follow.

Endzeit

-Rockets respawn too quickly.
-Killzone needed on architecture above bases.
-Looks like Atom, but I like it a lot.

Obsidian

-Something needs to be done about Jetpack Tower. If you played this map against reasonably competent people, then you know what I'm talking about.
-Too many spawns on the bottom level. Fish in a barrel yada yada yada.
-Other than the Jetpack Heroism that occurs, I like it.
-already mentioned I think: Objective stuff shows up in Slayer.

Reverence
-One team is at a disadvantage due to the way the framerate drop works. Scoping into teleports from the top of one base results in no/little framerate issues, but scoping in from the other is the suxxors.
-Not sure what the Frickin' Lazer Beam is doing on this map.

Edited for: Elevation is still not my favorite. I think people keep voting for it because they think it is the U2 song. Bungie should disregard all voting data for that map and cut it entirely/burnharddrivethatitisstoredonpleasethankyoubye

You might also want to try only using the Target Locator once and jack one of the Wraiths. You can breeze through the rest of the level with ease, and come back for the Gauss 'hog when you've dispatched all the enemies and Revenants at the ONI gate. You can jump the 'hog over the barricades to make very quick work of the Covenant in the courtyard and the Hunters near the elevator, and once you're inside all you need is PP+DMR.

Needless to say, I made a stupid mistake right at the end and I had to do a save/quit to get the challenge. :lol
You can also save the sniper rifles\rockets from the beginning and in the buildings at the bases. you then have three options...

Option 1...use the sniper rifle to take out the revanants.

Option 2...use the rockets to take out the revanants.

Option 3 (Best Option)...knowing the AI sucks at shooting the cannon on the hog...give the passenger AI the rockets and they will take care of business.

Or you could just take the easy route and do co-op...have someone just rush for the kills while you stand back.

Yes they are. I love it when a new one comes out. There was one I watched the other day that again showed how bad the AI driving was. They showed it at the end fast forwarding and it was 2 and a half minutes of Kat driving a warthog. It was exactly what we talked about too. It was pull a few feet forward then back up then turn to the right and pull forward and then back up. This was repeated for over 2 minutes.

That's called tactics. Advanced tactics.

Played my first game on Aspirocity. Was a 3v3 game and my teammates kept playing chicken with the other team's sniper so that sucked. Aside from that, seems like a pretty cool map.

As bad as the AI is at driving, putting a power weapon in their hands is really the best bet in all scenarios. They are much more accurate and consistent with Rocket, Sniper, or even the Grenade Launcher (Tip of the Spear) than they ever will be in the gunner seat standing-position-thingy.

I used to play Halo non stop from CE - 3. I as well as many of my friends each put in about 20,000 multiplayer games during that time period. None of us have put in 500 games in Reach. It's still a good game. It just doesn't feel as fast as the other Halos (default with armor abilities) and the maps suck.
I think Halo 2 spoiled you, me, and others by having so many good ones. There's some shitty ones in Reach, there was countless shitty ones in Halo 3. Our best hope is for Bungie, or 343i, to release tons and tons of DLC. Some of the better maps from Halo 2 came from DLC (Relic, Terminal, Sanctuary, Turf).

I touched on the base speed before. Halo 2's speed is where it felt right, and where you did not need any sprint function, or any other AA/equipment piece to gain any advantage to your surroundings.

Im not saying the Halo 3 Sniper was weaker than the rest of the Sandbox, but it was a lot harder to use because of the effects of movement speed and stuff. With Reach the rest of the Sandbox is easier to deal with, and on top of that they made the Sniper "Idiot proof".
Again. Halo 3's sniper did not have hitscan, so the hit detection due to the latency was always kicking its ugly head in. Shoot a guy and blood squirts out? Not always hit. Headshots having inconsistent accuracy was present. Same reason why the BR was flaky due to the spread. Hitscan is a must-have in Halo. That's why Halo 3's sniper was "harder" to use than Reach's, where your bullets actually register when you hit a body.

I dont buy this, I played literally hundreds of Sniper Customs with my friends on Halo 3, a decent amount of them where offline, and while lag and host and stuff was an issue it wasnt what made the Sniper harder to use.

On Halo 3 if I got a bloodshot I would be annoyed but through theatre and stuff you know when it happened, at the end of the day its just easier to miss shots on that game. Im not hitting all of my shots but just not having most of them register like your suggesting. (Although I have had crappy hosts where this has happened the whole game)

Ive seen friends who cant snipe at all on Halo 3 literally rip people apart with the thing on Reach, there seems to be a huge head hitbox. Hitscan makes a big difference, but lag is lag and when someone has a poor connection on Reach I see bloodshots/ shots through walls. Its a lot less common than on Halo 3 but still happens.

I dont know why im persuing the topic, as I said before, whatever I guess this way pleases the majority, but I feel sniping is less satisfying. I also think the pure gameplay in Snipers is different, its a lot less movement based now.

That's part of it, but the main issue is the size of the hit boxes in Reach, which are a good deal larger than in Halo 3's. Though, they are also a good deal smaller than the hit-boxes in h2, which were goddamn broken because they were so big.

With the DMR in Reach though, the hitboxes seem to shrink as bloom expands, has anyone else noticed that?

Didn't one of the podcasts post-beta say they were going to "dummy-proof" the sniper? I took that to mean it was going to be easier to use. Myself, I've done acts of sniping in Reach that I've not pulled off in any of the previous games. Literally the first time I used a sniper rifle I headshotted a Warthog gunner off the back of the 'Hog from across Hemorrhage, and I'm a sub-par sniper at best.

I don't think hitscan alone explains my newfound skills.

Mind you, I like it this way, as I no longer feel helpless when I use it. I can understand why some more hardcore players might be urked by it, though.

To follow the metaphor, I've been one lucky squirrel in Reach. I play markedly better with the sniper that in any previous game. (And again - not a complaint.)

The best daily was the one with the Drop Pods in LNoS. It showed sth. complete new, what I would never find out. I really hope we could see some change with the TU.

It definitely feels like I've sniped more guys on warthogs and mongooses in the short time Reach had been out compared to the other games, but the bloom ruins it when you need to get a quick second shot off so it seems to balance itself out.

The more I think about it the more I hate bloom. Keep running across these idiots in matchmaking jumping up and down and using the AR. As if it isn't difficult enough dealing with bloom, low clip count, and long reload animation... The idea that the AR has bloom is a total joke. I just don't understand why it needed to be changed from the beta.

True...it kills me when the AI can clearly see an enemy but will not fire...

There is nothing like a gauss hog with a rocket AI though...just be brave and head into battle!

It was unique, but I hated that challenge...had a very hard time 1st figuring out what it meant and 2nd actually getting the kills.

Not enough MLG love in here. Thought I would drop some info.

Sundance (Co-founder and CEO) had a little Q&A on his twitter (@MLG_Sundance) He vaguely answered questions about the first events location and date but also gave some insight as to which games are going to be on the pro circuit.

Q: where's the opener? lol
A: Not on the east coast

Q: Opener. Where?!
A: Not on the west coast

Q: Whens the next MLG?
A: *****

LOL This site is where I'm getting these from They also speculate that based on past events it's most likely in Dallas in March. We'll see.

As for the games on the Pro Circuit, it's StarCraft II, Halo Reach and they're "99.5%" on picking up Call of Duty: Black Ops. I'm honestly shocked they didn't pick up the last few CoD games earlier. Maybe the game customization wasn't there or whatever but you gotta get in on the insane popularity of these games. It'll be interesting to see what MLG does with the game. I actually recently played it (PS3) for the first time and it's pretty damn fun. Framerate drops all the fucking time though, pretty annoying. I wish they would have just locked it at 30 like Bungie did(LOLz)

The twitter followers also asked about the Halo Reach v3 settings.

Q: When is v3 coming out?
A: as soon as we resolve the sprint issue

Apparently there's a much more serious debate about whether or not players should be spawning with sprint than I had thought. I much preferred v1 when there was no sprint but it had a greatly increased base running speed. The melee's were standard as well and that definitely worked. While I don't think sprint off start is bad and absolutely needs to be changed, I prefer v1. I think I feel like I could have more control of the map when there's no sprint. Also a much better idea of where everyone on the map was and was heading. Sprint really changes that up because you think it takes a certain amount of time to get from A to B normally but with sprint you can get there much faster if you choose to use it. Also, there are new jumps introduced with sprint. We'll see.

Just finished Halo: Cryptum.

...

Towards the end my mind was being continually blown. The last page was just...wow.
So, when is part two coming out? I need it soon. No. I need it now.

The relationship between the Forerunners and humans is still pretty vague, but it is more clear, if only a little because of what is provided in the book.

Edit: Some points of clarification.

I loved the Forerunner-Precursor twist. The Forerunners destroyed the Precursors, but the Precursors had a contingency plan so to speak: the Flood. The conflict described between the Forerunners and Precursors isn't all that clear though.

We know the Flood are extra-galactic in origin, so does that mean the Precursors are too? If the Flood are, indeed, a weapon of the Precursors, as the book suggests, and the ships harboring the first form of the Flood came from another galaxy...does that mean the Precursors had other galaxies under their control? Or did they just develop the Flood from a remote installation outside the Milky Way?

Pure speculation mind you, but when I found out the relationship between the Precursors and the Forerunners, an idea popped into my head: Is it possible that the Precursors are some super-advanced form of the Flood?

I also think, judging from what the book said, that Humans are an off-shoot of Forerunner civilization from the time of the war between the Forerunner and the Precursors.

The book gave a lot of information to discuss.

You're reading Cryptum? Really? Wow Dax, I wish you would have said something sooner! Tell me more!

Anyway, taking a Halo break to play some Gears 2 and sometimes some COD/BFBC2

However, if anyone wants me to join them just send me an invite.

Probably gonna take a week or two break.

In terms of story Halo 2 is better? Did you play the same game as me? Halo 2 had an abysmal single player that had the worst ending I've ever seen in a game. I've replayed the other Halo games countless times but 2 was a shocker. Also, no, the multiplayer in this is much more fun. It's something to do with feeling more like Halo 1 or something.

Oh yeah dude. Because you telling people that you're taking a break from Halo is far more relevant and much more worthy of a contribution to the thread than my posts about Halo: Cryptum.

Follow this simple guide to get your map downloaded while polluting the file system in Reach as much as possible:

1) Stupid Name, misspelled, probably with rAnDom CapS
2) Inane description full of grammar & punctuation errors, telling you nothing about the map except how fuck awesome it is, which you are dumb for needing to be told yet again, didn't you read the title jesus christ it's soooo fuckawesome hurf durf
3) ???

PROFIT

Seriously, if you don't have 1K downloads on your map within a week I'd be astounded.

I can understand why they didn't allow you to "downvote" maps and/or tags in the context of penchant for abuse by private groups, but there are multiple instances where I've seen a tag cloud the size of Texas smeared across a map in the most cheap instance of download whoring ever. What is the point of allowing shit like this to exist? :lol

I don't have any confusion as to why - you give a child fingerpaints, you don't expect a Rembrandt in return - but it's just beyond the pale in terms of stupidity.

Not that it's any big loss, he's a bit of a creepy one that Daxy and his weapon/game taste is terrible.
