Think of it like this.

We don't want to over simplify it to hurt the creativity of a player, but a little bit of limitation will inspire the player to think outside the box, and be more creative.

It also adds a challenge to building.

You ever been to a Subway restaurant? I have so many choices and I can get creative as shit making sandwiches with a ton of ingredients.

If I just had turkey and lettuce there's a limit to my creativity.

So tell me, how would you take a full on map creator and make that work with the game? How do you get maps into matchmaking? How much loss in map size will we have.
That sounds completely different to your previous point.

Your point, if I'm understanding you correctly is this:

If given a blank sheet of paper and a pencil, less people draw something interesting than if they were given a lined sheet of paper and told to draw only on the lines, but on any lines they wanted.
That without restrictions nothing will be realised.

You're wrong, I get what you're trying to say, but you're wrong. If that was the case, then surely Bungie/343I/CA would have made their maps and all future maps with Forge.

This isn't an answer at all.

You would actually have to have people working at 343 dedicated to making sure this map inst broken, and that's a lot harder when its from a map creator, and not a map editor. It then becomes harder for players to keep track of each map that gets put in, it becomes crowded.

Who says you have to make sure the map isn't broken? You only have to do that within the archaic Halo 2-era confines of current Halo matchmaking. It's pretty much impossible to get your map into matchmaking as is anyway even with Forge and playlist restrictions.

LittleBigPlanet figured it out on consoles 3 years ago.
 
What they need to do is create a map editor for Halo 4 on PC and leave the editor off the fuckin 360 and the Halo 4 disc.

Hell charge extra. ITD BE WORTH IT.

Would make quick testing & updating kind of awkward, but by god it could make a huge improvement.

By all rights this should happen. Whatever about the business logistics and strategy, it would be great for the game and the consumer.

Of course this would probably result in more Forge Porn.

I know this may be completely off base but to me a beta or lack there of almost shows their confidence level with the game. If they are confident the MP is fun and people will enjoy it they will have a public beta test. If they are unsure of the MP they might decide they want right until release to get it right.

Halo 4's the beta we need, but not the one we deserve.

What? Make Forge easier so it's easier to take their vision and make it. I get what you're saying but I'm not sure it applies for Forge. In Halo 3 you saw maps and thought, "how the hell did they do that with forge?!" and it was accomplishment. But, that didn't make the map good or fun to play on. You have to let people create and iterate on their ideas more quickly and easily so that in the end they have a good product.

it is true the new maps are stuped no good spaots and event zombies seem to be over powered i hated bungie for puting killboundrys on swordbase lege and the other maps just because some little kids could not time the jump right we all pay for it thats just not right if 343 should do enything they need to bring back the old maps with no killboundrys thats what i think

I partly agree. Thats why it should be off the disc. Onto a map editor on PC. Then you ask yourself whats the difference between this and making a map in some sort of Maya program? Where people can do incredibly complex and great things.

If the editor was to go off disc onto PC would it get more and more complex to the point noone could use it unless you spent hundreds of hours learning the curve?

So they put a dumbed down editor on H3 and people said no we want more options so you got that in Reach.

Do we continue to have the developers invest more and more time on an editor in-game or can it be a seperate project for a different team?

So would you pay 40-50 for a Halo 4 map editor?

Personally I'd like Reach's editor options as is, but we do still need the ability to start on an empty map and add terrain, and thats where I'd like it stopped. Personally.

but the things people (not me) could do with a full on editor...my god. Thats what I'm saying.

I really wish they would axe forge and we could go back to the old Halo 1 and 2 ways of playing exclusively in a great set of varied looking maps made by the developers. I really dislike playing on soul-less maps made by the community (even if they had tools to make them look better).

I disagree. If we weren't give Forge and had the Halo 3 and Reach maps. I don't even wanna think about how bad that would be. Not only because the low good map count but because of the changes that can be done to the maps. MLG Zealot is wildly different and superior and the few touches done to Pit by MLG in Halo 3 were great. Also, addition/removal of weapons, power ups and stuff like that makes a huge difference.

Yeah you're right, forge needs to stay as an editing tool.

I wish they would just do away with the Foundry, Sandbox, forgeworld types of maps then. I just wanna play on maps made by 343i.

This thread is getting to that point the H3 thread was at towards its end. Unbearable to read sometimes. So bored... I want something Halo related to get excited about. I don't care about the stupid books. Primordial or whatever its called. I want some screens. Anything. WHERE'S H4?
 
Im loving the new Zombie maps, its about time we had variants like those added in. Is there any forgeworld exclusive maps? Seems it could have a good haunted house style map.

So apparently, on the 24th of January, there will be a toy fair in London and according to the article, there will be Halo 4 line up, which includes the warthog what again means there will probably multiple vehicles and characters.
If there no new vehicles characters shown (which is very likely I think, unless 343 releases a new trailer before that date :)), we'll at least know what kind of vehicles/characters will return from the previous games.

Cool stuff. I imagine we will only see a bare minimum, such as the Warthog and maybe a small Chief? Still, its something.


Hm. Does that mean all the other Halo fan films are dead also? Why did they wait so long to announce it? The project didn't look great, but I do feel bad for the people who put the time and money into the project.

I would be down for that with HaloGAF, not sure what we would do with weapon settings, I know Zero Bloom DMR's would destroy that map, I think we'd have to have them at 85% or pickup on map weapons only. Such a big problem with Halo, so many different settings that no one can agree on, and the game mechanics aren't solid enough where the maps could showcase them the best, so you have to try settings forever and compromise to find fun. : /

I've been enjoying the 85% settings of the Anni playlists.

I'd play Bioshock Infinite but I should really play Bioshock first.

Bioshock is incredible, everyone should play it. Infinite is not narratively related to Bioshock in any way, they just didn't want to make a new IP for a game that would be very similar in gameplay.

Not sure where the March thing is coming from either, there has been no date other than 2012 announced for Infinite.

You guys don't get it. You don't want to make anything frustrating for the players.

I don't like what forge has done to matchmaking, I don't like that Bungie relied on Forge for MM maps instead of making any themselves for Reach, and I'd like to just play dev maps most of the time, but what at this statement?

Why the hell should something be intentionally frustrating for the players?

In an unrelated note, just got a Kindle. I'm excited to dive into some new books and may read the new Bear novels.
 
Ugh I hope this gem thing is just being blown out of proportion by the FGC like they do with everything else.

Im pretty certain they said you could play completely without it. Its really built as a tourny thing but it seems to of been built with the tournament community in mind by someone who knows nothing about the tournament community.

Like if 343i decided to build Tournament Halo for MLG but it was 0% jump hight, vampirism, ghosts on every map and all plasma weapons.

The FGC do not want it at all, the biggest way to make SF x T a failure would be to force the player base to use it.
