Wow I completely missed the chunk of text about the graphics upgrades. :lol

Can anyone tell if it's using a wide FOV (like Halo 1 and ODST) from that one shot with the HUD? I can never tell if a game has a good FOV from screenshots, only while playing.

Is it a replacement for the Battle Rifle, or does that remain in the game? I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the DMR in the Beta.

Also Dax, how you can determine the DMR is 100X better than the battle rifle is beyond me. The Battle Rifle is what makes Halo multiplayer fun for me, so any tinkering with it's abilities are going to get my ears perked, let alone if they scrap it. It seems sometimes you like to shit on the BR just to go against the flow.

Don't mean to necessarily compare at all, but in MW2, I know I actually fare way better with the FAMAS and the M16 (both burst fire) than the FAL (single shot). So to the DMR lovers, hold on to your butts to fully validate the awesomeness of it.

Oh and Shishka, does this mean H3 Seven won't have any DRM? :D

All future Bungie releases will wipe your hard drive upon installation. It's basically an evolution of the Myth 2 uninstaller.

I though this was MP info, like how the H3 reveal introduced us to High Ground, Snowbound, and Valhalla, six months before the beta. Only four months until the beta this time, when will we be getting MP info?

Oh and Shishka, does this mean H3 Seven won't have any DRM? :D
More accurately, it says the Covenant will occasionally speak their native languages. I'm hoping that means they speak English when needed during cinematics, but their native languages during combat.

So much good stuff in there. Animation overhaul; armor abilities; focus even larger scale battles, as part of a huge invasion war; emphasis on the setting (civilians, ambient life, environments, vehicles); customizable permutations for the protagonist; the graphics engine upgrade; the new Jackal variant; the buckets of nostalgia (languages, u-shaped drop ships, night-time mission).

Lordy lord. Can we has beta time now?

Dub the app, The Array.

Why would the evil frakking aliens need to be understood in any cinematics?

I am curious if the lightsaber will be treated like a power weapon of sorts or if it will multiple placed around the maps like BRs.
If like Dax said, the quote that Ghaleon posted was merely to help describe the DMR, meaning the DMR replaced the BR then I would guess they would be placed frequently like BRs.

I'm really intrigued to see what changes were made gameplay wise to the AR. It was my biggest disappointment of Halo 3. I do hope they have given it a level of control it previously lacked. Also with the ability to assassinate by holding the B button, I hope the melee combat is developed more from the simple beatdown of Halo 3.

Loving what I hear so far.

I couldn't read shit, its soo shiny.

Hunting for healthpacks doesn't sound that fun tbh. I didn't like it in ODST.

This. Graphics are good, but nothing WOW worthy to me yet.

In comparison to games like Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2, nothing in Halo: Reach will be 'WOW' worthy. However, you'll be playing a game with huge open battlefields, vehicles, and masses of enemies with excellent A.I (if it's anything like the previous games). That's where the wow factor comes from.

Se when you say Assassination. You mean walking up to an elite and just meleeing him on the back; or will it be an Assassin's Creed-ish kind of animated attack?

Make me beloove!

Oh yea, pre-emptive fuckyouz for not including fully custom controller mapping. I need to mix Bumper Jumper and Green Thumb dammit. Melee Right Stick Click, Jump Left Bumper, Zoom Right Bumper. OMGOSH NEED.

Well either that or fundamentally change the way Halo plays so I won't curse your name with each dying breath.

And, you know, splitscreen multiplayer. Other games should just be flat out banned from comparisons for raping user friendliness.

All I want to know:

Does it have anti-aliasing, or is it actually going to be at least 1280x720p? Because they can keep farting on about lovely lighting or lovely models and all, but the fucking jaggies were the issue in Halo 3 and not much else!

Apparently there is special animations from the picture they provided.

Dammit, I am incredibly unsatisfied with this reveal. Not because of what Bungie showed, which was great, but the ammount of content that was revealed was incredibly small.

We can't link to the scans right ?

I believe I found some proof of a new aiming mechanic, Iron Sights, or the Halo equivalent.

"Halo is coming this fall and it shall be more Halo than the Haloiest Halo to ever have Halo'd."

Seriously, the biggest news from this is what, being able to drive a Chevy?

I don't remember the Halo 3 reveals being anywhere near this level of cocktease.

1280x720?! Woh that's a lot of p. I too hope they have smoothed the game out, really can't take much from screenshots.

Just explain it? Most people know how to get to the scans.

The two games you mentioned are PS3 games - apples to apples would be GoW2, Assassin's Creed 2, Mass Effect 2, CoD:MW2.

I was just mentioning the two best looking games out there now. They just happen to be on the PS3, but lots of other comparisons can be made of course.

However, I definitely will agree with what you said about gameplay. If they win there, all will be well to me. I am really wary of the 'armor equipment' as of now though. Sounds fishy to me.

I know. Seriously. What was revealed?

Story details.. I am trying to forget them tbh. I don't want to know anything about the story until I play the game.
The DMR, which we knew about from the Tom Morello leak.
New armor equipment system, which wasnt explained well and left us as confused as we used to be.
You can drive civilian vehicles.
Assasination animations.
Halo 1 feeling.

I am still buying the magazine, but I expected a true reveal like the Halo 2/Halo 3 reveals. This was just a cocktease, nothing more.

Some more quick observations...

Over the text about graphics improvement there's a screen shot with a UI element conspicuously blurred out. Me thinks we have some more game play features to discover.

Also, Notice the shots of spartans carrying DMR's all show a gun with an expansion rail, but nothing on it.

Go back to the leak shots though and what I assume is the DMR has scope and ammo display mounted on the rail. Artistic change, or customizable weapons?

haloreach_5.jpg

Finally, on the 8th page I think, it shows two spartans running around an industrial type area, one is the lone wolf, but I can't figure out who the other is. It could be JUN, or it confirms that we won't be playing as other noble squad members in co-op (boo).

I really like that they're paying attention to the weapons. The new rifle looks sweet and the details of how it behaves are also good. Another rifle capable of headshots? I want more of that. Bungie add more rifles that can do that. The new AR design looks good too. Hopefully, shooting that thing won't feel like popcorn cooking in a microwave. It's nice to see they've made decisions on the grenade types. Hopefully, there won't be as many grenade drops in the multiplayer as there was in Halo 3.

I hope you are right, but I doubt it. Most likely all the magazine reporters were shown the same demo. Game Informer wouldn't hold info back if the embargo is lifted.

On page 59 there appears at least to me there are two different animations when aiming. The bottom of the page appears to have the spartan aiming from the hip, and the above animation has him in a higher "iron sight" mode.

???
I didn't say it would have any new info. Just that I'd buy it.

I don't see it, and I think you're looking far too much into it.

The Halo 3 reveal was multiplayer based and showed us some new weapons and some shots of the new maps and some vague talk of features, some of which never made it (*cough* XBL Public *cough*). The reporters on hand for that saw a grand total of 20 seconds of campaign and in their attempts to tell us what they saw they essentially told us nothing.

This, on the other hand, revealed details from at least 2 campaign missions, hints at some of the other ones, a new enemy race, new weapons, new additions to gameplay, and gave us wonderful little teases about the philosophy for the campaign. In my opinion, this is far meatier than the H3 reveal.

looks like it's still using the same graphics engine, maybe slightly updated. I'm dissapointed with the graphics, looks near enough the same as ODST and Halo 3. Maybe I should wait for better screens. I wasd hoping a graphics jump and game engine change as big as COD3 to COD4.

Yep. I'll semi-disappointed if nothing is changed but the sound.

God, I really want to read this, but that magazine is almost impossible to find in Denmark.
Sigh, it seems like I'll have to subscribe to it now, just so I can follow you. Because I've never been able to find these fabled "scans" you're all on about.

Elite: Wort, wort, wort! Wort wort! Wort! WWWWWWWOOOOORRRRRRRRTTTTTTTTTTT!
Elite 2: Wort wort?!
Elite: Wort wort wort!

It's stupid. It serves well for grunts and short phrases, but as a language? No. Unless Bungie has modified Elites to speak something other than "wort wort wort."

But, the sound NEEDED a change from H3 though. The put-put-put in H3 was lame compared to H1.
I know the sound needs to be changed, I'd just be semi-disappointed if the sound was the only thing that will be changed. If anything, just give me a different sound.

Seems to me you think elites only say wort, in Halo: CE their language was actually human recordings played backwards. The 'wort wort wort' in that game was 'go go go'
