Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

Trasher said:
It wasn't meant to put anyone down. It's just his theory on why so many people enjoy the AR rather than the BR. And he's right. Most people use it because they aren't good enough with the BR. Calling someone terrible because they aren't good at a game is a put down??? No it's not.
Honestly, he doesn't know the skill set of anyone saying they like the AR. What's the threshold of someone who is "bad"? A k/d spread of .1-.8? What about the threshold for someone who is "decent" or "okay"? Someone who is good?

And why would you conclude that they're skill is the only reason for their likeness of the weapon? What if they use it because they think it's fun to use (fun is the keyword there)? What if they enjoy CQC and have fun beating people down? You may not enjoy that, and that's fine. Maybe I enjoy using the shotgun, maybe I enjoy using the needler, or the mauler. Maybe you don't enjoy using any of those weapons. What: Are you going to tell me the only reason why I like those weapons is because I'm bad?

Besides, that wasn't really the put-down. It was more "I'm good, you're bad, therefore you're not allowed to enjoy the game in the way you do." Someone can be bad at directing a certain genre of movies, or bad at writing for a certain genre of movies, but that doesn't mean they're not allowed to enjoy said genre.
In my opinion you are the one that is acting "butt-hurt" because you took his post as an insult to yourself.
I don't care how good I am at a game as long as I have fun with it. Because, well, it's a game.
Chill out and take your own advice.
I made one comment of the constant "us vs them" form of posting that permeates much of HaloGAF, and I'm not taking my own advice?

Sorry guys, haven't been keeping up with the news...

but just wondering, is this Halo meant to be modelled after Modern Warfare?

With exp and upgrades available for online play?

No info has been released on Multiplayer just yet, but I wouldn't be surprised.

No one really knows. However, it does seem to be taking a few queues from MW2 with customization of Spartan abilities (Sprinting, Cloaking etc). There's also a melee knife kill now for what it's worth.

Not much has been revealed about the multiplayer side other than online Co-Op being confirmed.

I'm not even sure I would go so far as to generalize why people use it. It's fun to use, for starters, even if it's application is more limited.

Personally, I use it because in many situations, it's the preferred weapon to BR. They're complimentary.
I like using it just to piss off the BR lovers. I need all I can get to throw someone off their game.

While we're being assholes: 'complementary'.
Spell check fails me yet again.

Just the other day I googled "Orange Bowel" instead of "Orange Bowl" when looking for Hawkeye highlights.

Boy was I surprised when I hit "Search".

edit- wth am I talking about, I do wanna see those leet etch-a-sketch skills!! Have both, it'll be the greatest update in years.

Why is it that the people that leak/take scans of these things always take crappy, grainy pictures with flash reflections blocking half the text?

I'm not saying they need to take ultra-high res, professional looking photos (and legally, they shouldn't be taking any), but they could at least make the effort to make the whole thing actually visible.

Exactly, the AR is more accessible and given the current Halo population Bungie's crafted there's no doubting why so many prefer it. I have no reservations in saying that at ~50 crowd they overwhelmingly prefer the BR. I don't understand how anyone's who's participated in an AR match against ~level 50 players and experienced how disadvantaged you are when respawning with only an AR against a team of consistent BRs can honestly say they prefer AR starts. Of course there are some oddballs out there like Coco P. Jojo but he's from the south. There's nothing wrong with the AR, just accept that you are an inferior Halo player and get back to your beatdowns.

This happened to me. Once I realized I could use the BR in close combat situations effectively, I saw no reason to go back to the AR unless I am playing drunk and my aim is sucking.

Needler is the best drunk Halo weapon foshizzle.

I had to oonsk my avatar.

Also, do we know when the Edge magazine is supposed to hit?

I've always been privvy to the BR, and Eazy has a valid point - once you hang around the level 50 crowd, BR is a staple for medium distance map control. Without it, it becomes a challenge. That to me is an indication for which weapon is superior for most overall game-winning scenarios. AR has it's place, and gets me a ton of kills, but BR is a more versatile tool for the maps that Bungie has crafted.

and then you pull the trigger.

The EDGE magazine should hit around Friday-ish for subscribers. I know I'll be walking to Tesco in my break at college next Tuesday to pick this one up fresh. Got to get me some Reach loving.

The problem is, that crowd in the low single digits as a percentage of the overall population.

At any rate. I think the entire discussion is moot until we get our hands on the Beta and see how this new AR and DMR fit together with the rest of the expanded and tweaked sandbox. AR/BR is so Halo 3.

To whomever received their Game Informer issue, does the paper feel coarse like newspaper? I got my issue today and the pages feel rough and the colors appear a little washed out. Did I get a bad issue or what? I compared it to my last two issues and those have smooth pages like any other magazine.

Note: Not a real spoiler.

Yes, I'm nitpicking. This my damn Reach, dammit. >:|

True, but I'm in that crowd... so it's what I see in most ranked matches in Team Slayer. Alas, you are correct though, it is a moot issue at the end of the day.

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the deemer, and to finish friggin Halo Evolutions.

Actually, the shotgun is my best drunk weapon. The shotgun is just my best weapon period. If I get a hold of one, I will get at least 3 kills before I die. Sadly, I am not one to camp the weapon because I want to have fun, so I don't bother much trying to obtain it.

Yeah the paper is different. Doesn't bother me though.

EDGE Magazine subscriptions are awfully expensive compared to other gaming magazines.

If anyone currently subscribes to the magazine.. what justifies the price?

It takes a mature approach to video game journalism.

Go see if you can find an old copy or something to take a look. It really is a breath of fresh air if you are sick of the immaturity and teen male focused shite of other magazines.

I buy it every month but am too lazy to fill in the form and subscribe, plus university is this year so I can't be arsed with the hassle of having to re-arrange delivery points. But to me I buy it every month because of the quality of the writing. I often read an article about something I originally had no semblance of information on having gained a clear picture of it in my mind. It's writers can write, unlike evidently Gameinformer's.

The subscription for 12 issues only costs £35 IIRC. That is a saving of £19, which for something of such a high standard seems like a good price, irrelevant of whether it isn't the going rate for other completely awful magazines.

The layout is superb, they take the subject they cover seriously, the writing is almost uniformly excellent, the materials are top notch (/packaging snob). It's the only mag of any sort I subscribe to, in part because they manage to make stuff I'm not interested in enjoyable to read about. I end up reading most issues cover to cover, and since they're aways pretty hefty, I space that out over a week or more.

It's pricey, but very much worth it, IMO. Pick up the new Reach issue and see what you think; Borders and B&N usually carry them.

Great paper quality and layout. Articles that aren't a bunch of rewritten press releases. Reviews that say more in 3 paragraphs than a 7 page IGN turd. You get what you pay for.

Has it been mentioned whether or not reload will still be on the right bumper for Reach?

Reload on RB was one of the many things that annoyed me in Halo 3.

Bumper Jumper is not default, and default in halo 3 is imo inferior to default Halo 2, which to me is still the best button config for FPS;s which is funny because COD follows that same config.

Also Bumper Jumper sucks.
