I unno, if they had a gun that makes everything explode when you shoot three different people with it I'd imagine they are pretty unstoppable. By people in groups of three.

Yeah, but you have to look at it from Bungie's perspective: they don't want players to become frustrated with the game and stop playing it because of behaviour penalties.
One, no good, quitter is frustrated because he has to wait 5 minutes to hope back into MM or the 7 people he left playing in an unbalanced game are frustrated because he left knowing the penalty isn't severe. And like Bladed said, if you had to leave for legitimate reasons, it would probably take at least 5 minutes to deal with those anyways. Of course lift the penalties for those that quit after 1/2 their team has already done so (still give them a lose to prevent exploits) and you won't end up with BTB games where 8 guys are scouring maps searching for 2 players.

Jesus Christ, Bungie. Overpowered much? What's next? An AR that spits out laser shots?

I think Frankie means that you'll find out when you play Reach. I'm willing to bet that the whole invisibility thing had something to do with it.

I don't think Frank was trying to be derogatory there, just that you will get the answer to your question in Reach.

For some reason that doesn't bother me at all and I'm usually super anal about this stuff. I imagine that's what the Covenant do all the time when they glass a planet. They go in with a small spec ops team that cuts off all communications with the rest of the UNSC and then they rain down hell from orbit once the orbital defenses have been eliminated.

Why would they downgrade the AR ?
Well they already cut another four bullets from it, apparantly. Might as well make them explosive lasers to balance it out.

And lol @ IGN not even transcribing a magazine article right. :lol

What? If you're gonna be busy IRL for the next 5-10 minutes, by the time you're back the penalty from my system'll have been lifted. Heck if you aren't a heavy quitter you'd be allowed to search in another playlist immediately. If it's only gonna take 20 seconds of your time then hide, don't quit, and hurry.
Good point. I guess I just don't want to be penalized further than that. A 5 minute wait is fine.

How about an alternative for teams that end up clearly outmatched (like 6 against 2 or the like). Give the smaller team extra shields to compensate. Kind of an equality-based overshield. So in that 6 on 2 example, the 2 players on the smaller team get 300% overshield. You're odds are still bad of winning/surviving, but it's a nice little twist to add some more competition to the match.

Don't worry, every time I poke my head in here to see if there is any Reach news I feel like I just stumbled into a cult meeting.

Who was the Shipmaster and Prophet in charge of overseeing all battle operations during Reach's destruction? Anyone know if it was someone significant?

Thel 'Vadam (everyone's favorite Arbiter) was the Supreme Commander of the Fleet of Particular Justice, which was the Covenant fleet at Reach.

What about a surrender option? probably never happen but say theres half or less of an opposing team left in the game, the winning team could offer the other team the chance to surrender, end the game right there. Might stop those 8 on 2 hide and seek fests that BTB can become... Just spitballin' here...

Not sure about the prophet, maybe truth, but i think the shipmaster was the arbiter. Is described at the beginning of halo2 when they show a glimpse of the attack and the pillar running away with the arbiter in pursuit.

If I recall correctly, the Covenant hammered the defenses on Reach. Keyes and numerous others tried to defend Reach against an overwhelming force. Meanwhile, a couple of Covenant ships stealthly drops several dropships, which nobody sees before it's too late. These troops blow up the generators supplying the giant MACs, which ultimately seals Reach's destiny.

So how do I manage to have sensible discussions with HaloGAF regulars? Oh wait, I'm not a blatant troll. DeadGzuz, you are probably the most infamous poster on Neogaf for your blatant trolling. At least from what I've seen you are.

But feel free to join in the discussion.

Somewhat accurate.

I'd wait until the game before I jump on any (potential) story problems though.

Given this new information from Halo Evolutions, I am curious to see which Prophet Thel'Vadaam was bound to to oversee his Fleet.

And I almost slapped my head when I realized I forgot that Thel was the Shipmaster. It was a moment of laziness I guess. His fleet was the only one attacking Reach?

Actually, historically and well documented in literature, advanced pre-invasion forces are a pretty established occurance and plot point when it comes to large scale military invasions.

Bearing in mind also that Reach in Halo lore is the biggest and strongest of all human occupied territories and is the seat of the majority of UNSC military forces. Not even the Covenant would be foolish enough to blindly jump into such a situation without some advanced efforts.

According to the GI article, Noble Team is sent to investigate the sudden and unexplained disruption of Reach's communications link to the rest of the UNSC, which is the sort of pre-invasion tactical action that you would expect in such a situation, and by expect, I mean with the reader's and fan's knowledge of the invasion proper and subsequently what happens. Remember, the UNSC forces were caught off guard, they didn't expect the Covenant to attack their strongest Inner Colony so quickly after the fall of the Outer Colonies, they expected the Covenant to work they're way through like the did with the former, not attack at the very heart of their operations.

The bottom line is we do not have the finer details to chew on at the moment, but nothing revealed so far is distorting what we already know and I'm pretty sure Bungie will tie up things with the lore pretty neatly with the end product.

At the end of the day, Halo is first and foremost a video game, the amount of dedication that goes into the lore of such a product is usually very lacking but Bungie have a good track record, not perfect, but still great.

We already know the Covenant has cloaking ships, and they landed in a rebel area (meaning no contact with the oonsk). The Covies probably chose that area on purpose so that the UNSC wouldn't find out until it was too late.
And as Frankie is telling you, I'm sure it will be fully explained when you get your hands on Reach this fall.

It looks nearly identical to a scene from Halo 2's opening cutscene where the Arbiter is informing the Prophets that the Pillar of Autumn escaped Reach.

Seems like it. It's a beautiful piece. It's similar to the look of the planet from the E3 trailer, yet doesn't seem copy pasta. I'm hoping there's some epic shots like that in the game, even if they're going for a different style of camera work.

edit- well...

Defending Halo matchmaking

Error 500's killed my response. I'm sad. Just consider what you're giving up for the je ne sais quoi of Halo. I really don't think join in progress would have such a huge effect on teamplay. More matches would be played and finished, rather than being a wash after someone quits. And epople could play what they want more often, and avoid the shit they don't.

You guys just seemed determined to hand over any influence you have on what you play. Complain about playlist management then suggest quitting penalties? Quitting penalties will subject you to the whims of your playlist overseer even more. Don't you want to choose what you play? You could've never have had to play Heavies!

"It fled, as we set fire to their planet."[/QUOTE]
Quote fix. Man, I got the whole opening of Halo memorized.

Arbiter: There was only one ship.
Regret: One? Are you sure?
Arbiter: Yes. They called it "The Pillar of Autumn."
Mercy: Why was it not destroyed with the rest of their fleet?
Arbiter: It fled, as we set fire to their planet. But I followed with all the ships at my command.
Regret: When you first saw Halo, were you blinded by its majesty?
Arbiter: Blinded?
Regret: Paralyzed? Dumbstruck?
Aribter: No.
Regret: Yet the humans were able to evade your ships, land on the sacred ring, and desecrate it with their filthy footsteps!
Arbiter: Noble Hierarchs, surely you understand that once the parasite attacked...
Mercy: There will be order in this council!
Truth: You were right to focus your attention on the Flood, but this Demon this "Master Chief..."
Arbiter: By the time I learned the Demon's intent, there was nothing I could do.

Edit - Is it NPD Thursday?

Dear DeadGzuz,

We fellow HaloGAFers thank you for your concern.

I took the liberty of seriously pondering what you have said and I decided that I best receive more wisdom from yourself in order to fully understand your grand, grand point, masterfully intelligent as it is.

Let me recall some of your poetic proclamations from posts you have graced us with from elsewhere on GAF.

Cry more about KZ2 folks, it's a great game both online and off. If you Halo guys loved ODST so much (you sure ran out and bough it like sheep), you should have voted for it.

Yes, we all bought ODST and we are truly sheep for doing so. Our herd like mentality and the grassy plains of New Mombasa was a field of grazing we could not resist.

I'd also to ask at this point if "bough" is the new spelling for "bought" so that I may update my spell checker to meet your higher standards.

I've never considered or entertained the notion of a Halo theme skateboarding game compatible with the plastic skateboard controller before. You really do think outside of the box. May I suggest that in future you share this knowledge with us only after you have submitted this idea to the great video game publishers, it's only right that you financially benefit from your greatness.

My enjoyment was false! The false quality of the games I have played have blinded me to the truth!

I'm hoping the visors improve to the quality they were in the VGA Trailer. They looked pretty damn bad in the magazine.

Also, wtf is up with all the 500s? Do people really get excited for NPDs? Who honestly gives a shit about that?
