Your vision even good enough to see jaggies anymore, old man?

Havent you heard.. being old is the new hotness.

Halo 3 still looks good to me. Though the animations and human character models down right suck ass.

I have seen this gif with MC's face. Does anybody here have it?

Speculation, hype... Such arbitary, useless phenomenon, yet so fun to waste hours and hours with. Then again, I have nothing of substance to add to this thread, so perhaps I should just keep out until more information arrives.

This time [Halo 2 MP], the Needler is actually useful!
:lol :lol :lol

Please do not make the Needler as OPed and random as it was in H3

I wonder if we'll get the Beta Carbine again. Everyone (with some sense) complains about the BR being UPed (and they're right), but don't forget the Carbine was massively nerfed as well. And the Sniper's hit detection went to shit.

Bungie hates medium and long range combat confirmed.
and they hate landmine combat as well

The beta carbine was bananas, though. And there was a good period where no one seemed to realize this but me, so I was just running around with it (especially in FFA on Snowbound) zappin' heads and giggling.

I remember being the only one to pick up the Maulers the first few days after launch. Too easy :lol :lol :lol

I loved the beta Carbine...

I was just happy to go around shooting any gun during the Halo 3 beta, during the handful of games that I managed to play.

Looking forward to spending more time with the Reach beta without such limited constraints.

But they are still important. Otherwise a lot more people would be playing games from 10 or 20 years ago. Personally the graphics from a game that's 6 years old bother me. Not so much that they get in the way of me enjoying it, but every once in a while I do think that it would be nice if it looked better.

Same as myself, when the H3 Beta hit I was sharing a 360 with a recovering WoW addict who had just found Final Fantasy XI. Very little beta play, I was not a happy camper.

This time, things are different and I vow to fully abuse the beta (in a loving older brother type way).

Because those work so well online.

I completely forgot about the BR being a single-shot when scoped, and a 3-shot burst when not scoped in that Halo 2 demo. That would have made no sense. :lol

No it makes sense it just would have represented a 2 stage trigger, plenty of modern day guns use this.

Ugh... My point was that in the GAME you wouldn't be able to fire the three-shot burst scoped because that's how the game's mechanics would have worked for that. So going by the game's logic that means that the only possible way to use the single-shot function would be by looking through a scope. This makes no sense in a realistic and practical way, and hence was probably one of the reasons they cut it from the game.

Not to mention who/what will be the main AI character in Reach.

I'm guessing an AI or someone up in Reach's orbit on a ship. Chief was the only Spartan to ever have an AI assigned to him personally right?

I think so. There wasn't enough time to give any other Spartans an AI.

How close to 8pm do you think Don Mattrick will cancel the announcement this time?
Depends on when they decide to announce that the first batch of Reach DLC will be bundled exclusively with Halo Legends.

One thing I should mention.

If you play Halo 3 through component cables on an HDTV that is not 1080p, and the image is overscanned, the jaggies are way worse than they should be.

I remember how disapointed I was with Halo, until I properly got my TV running in native resolution. At 768x1360 on my set, it looks great and jaggies are greatly reduced. 360 has nice internal scaling.

Still I want better graphics. Visual Shock. Speed Shock. Sound Shock. It's time to the Xenos heart of fire.

I knew what you where talking about. I still think it makes some kind of sense in that you would only want to fire single rounds while scoped as it would be more accurate then a burst. In the leaked stuff from Reach didn't the BR only fire single shots according to the mlg poster.

Iris was a letdown to me, specially after coming from ILB.

The Superintendent was an in-game letdown. He should've been fucking with you non-stop. It's an AI that is self-aware with total control over a city that you're trapped in. How do you not have him screwing with you the entire time?! How do you miss that opportunity?! His only use was for those secret garages which were an awful overly gamey mechanic. Forget the flashbacks, ODST should've been confined to the city. You are no longer the Master Chief. You are not a badass. The world is fucked, you're alone, weak, and now there's an invisible malevolent presence hanging over you. Instead we got some rehashed Halo 3 encounters and a different HUD.

Such a missed opportunity. Bungie desperately needs some new writers.

I think the problem with Halo related threads is not the amount of posts but the amount of unique posters. And I think it's safe to say that this thread is just full of the Halo 3 thread posters which were the same posters in the ODST thread. A handful of guys that just post a fuck load about everything from Halo to their favourite food. I swear, the Halo threads here are like a forum in itself.

Point being that 700+ posts in this thread mean shit. There really isn't much hype outside of the usual Halo thread suspects.

It's the same old people because like 14 people on GAF enjoy Halo. The rest cry about its popularity without giving the game a chance.

The best are the ones who cry about Halo being milked, only to go cream themselves over a FF13 trailer. Some people have to hate whats popular they think it makes them cool.

Nothing relevant has happened yet. Unless you want an OP update on the what halogaf thinks of ironsights, class-based MP and features vs graphical prowess.

How awesome would it have been for the Superintendent to be so damaged from the blast that he/it assumed the occupying Covenant were the good guys and you were the intruder? Using the "clues" in the flashbacks you'd find out that you could repair the Super and in return get some help with getting back to your squad. To have the Covenant and the city work against you would have been a really interesting twist. I'd love to hear some of the rejected storylines for ODST (or maybe I shouldn't pull at that dangling thread, lol).

Ouch. Bungie needs moar Frankie (terminals, please). And Nylund in the think tank for stories.

In the end, the terminals had more compelling fiction in them than the entire (yet entertaining) audio logs.

I disagree. The Terminals were so completely disjointed/fractured and impossible to understand that I stopped actively searching them out after the first few. I was pretty excited about the idea of the Terminals when I heard about them prior to the release of Halo 3, and they were a disappointment.

I read the Ascendant Justice interpretation of the Terminals, and that was pretty cool, but the fact that I had to rely on someone else to decipher the Terminals is just a little too hardcore.

I'm guessing that the vast majority of Halo players who were even remotely interested in the story of Halo and read the Terminals in game have no idea what they were about and have not read the AJ article on them.

Perhaps so, but did the terminals need to add to the fiction?
I think the audio logs are an interesting bout of human drama, an example of the madness we don't really see anywhere else.
Not that I don't think the terminals are awesome, I do. I think there's room for both.
It still saddens me that so many "miss" the terminals and the story(ies) they told.

I can't wait. I just hope that this time less emphasis is put on prizes. Yes they're fun, but a bunch of lurkers who had no care for the story being told would camp the sites to snatch up all the prizes. I loved things like the Amazon Pages and the Audio blurbs from the servers in Iris. I really hope Reach has something awesome.

Amended.

I know this won't be addressed in the debut cinematic, but I'm hoping dual-welding is a thing of the past; ODST demonstrated that the game is stronger when things are balanced for single-wielding.

I understood the terminals on my first read of them in-game (though some bits I lost because of the timed switch to the [second] part of them). The disjointed nature only added to their enigmatic and dire mood, keeping it VERY compelling. Didact, Librarian, Gravemind, Mendicant, I understood it all - but I keep up with the fiction.

Though, it doesn't take a genuis to read some of that fiction and understand it. The letter of the soldier to his father is a very understated yet powerful way to convey the Mantle/Forerunner way of life to any reader.

Keeping the Forerunners so lofty and tough to crack/understand along with using modern euphemisms because of the lack of actual translations was essential to keeping the fiction pure.

I agree. I know that personally that focusing on single-wielding caused me to use and fall in love with weapons I never used to even consider (Carbine and Beam Rifle stick out in my mind).

If this were really true, old-school computer ROMs of 8Bit games wouldn't exist. However, they do, and they do in force. I've been playing Dune 2 recently on my PC and it's sure as hell not for the graphics. Same thing with AlephOne.

I play SS2 over Bioshock. Even with the increase in graphical prowess Bioshock has over SS2, the gameplay offered in SS2 glasses Bioshock from space. Same reason why people still to this day LAN HCE or play HCEPC. Because gameplay makes the game, not what it looks like.

As long as the graphics aren't to the point where they degrade gameplay, they are non-existent to me.

Maybe we just have different thresholds for when it crosses that "degrades" line but I couldn't care less about pixel-wagging.

2 more sleeps.

That's because there's no relevant information to update the OP with. The past several pages have just been general chit-chat.

Reach project page is up on bungie.net

:O

Right now there is just some basic knowledge about the planet, etc.

Planet: Reach (excerpt from CAA FACTBOOK [l.update 12.7.2535])
 • Length of day: 27 hours
 • Length of year: 390 days (local)
 • Gravity: ~1.08 g
 • Natural satellites: [2] Csodaszarvas, Turul

Reach is the 4th largest planet in the Epsilon Eridani [K2 Orange-red dwarf] system, second closest to ε Eridani. Stable for planet of its age [<1B years]. First planetary confirmations were in early 21st century.

planetreach.png

Reach is the location of the UNSC's largest and most active shipyard. It is also where the UNSC's most elite troops, the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, are trained. Reach is also the largest non-automated exporter of titanium. ε Eridani's superior interstellar jump point has been the most active S-F space transfer zone (arrivals and departures) for over thirty years, with ε Eridani's inferior IJP and Sol's superior IJP regularly trading second and third place spots.

 • Population: 703,341,500
 • Largest Cities: Manassas, Quezon, Ezhtergom

Military Power: Reach (excerpt from CAA FACTBOOK [l.update 1.5.2550])
 • Total Available Military Manpower: 385,421,100
 • Total Land Assets: 58,430
 • Total Naval Assets: 1,209 (T); 75 (X)
 • Total Air Assets: 11,050
 • Serviceable Airports: 1,246
 • Defense Budget: cR. 38,287,000,000 [2548]

unsc.png

While Earth is rightly seen as the UNSC's commercial, political, and cultural center; Reach is undeniably the hub of its military power.

The ε Eridani fleet is a full strength Carrier Group with the supercarrier UNSC Trafalgar at its core. The planet itself has a semi-mobile array of 20 Orbital Defense Platforms, and they are in turn defended by multiple wings of single ships and tactical multi-role craft.

Besides a brief description of the Spartan II project, everything else is classified.

They have an enemies section. New enemies confirmed? Expected though. For those who haven't read Reach, were there other Covenant species mentioned that haven't appeared in games so far?
